Kawartha Lakes is situated just to the northeast of Toronto. Kawartha Lakes is a rural municipality in Ontario, Canada and is made up of several towns and cities. Some of the more popular communities are: Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, Lindsay, Omemee and Woodville.
There are so many different things to do and see in Kawartha Lakes. Each town has its own personality and it’s hard not to fall in love with each and every one of them. The Kawartha Settlers’ Village is a must see in Bobcaygeon as is Lock 32. Also the Globus Theatre and Arts Barn in Bobcaygeon are amazing. In Lindsay, check out Olde Gaol Museum, Century Theatre, Academy Theatre, and Ken Reid Conservation Area. A visit to the Dromoland Orchard & Stables is a must while in Little Britain. The Horseless Carriage Museum in Fenelon Falls is spectacular and afterwards, go to the Little Pie Shack for some delicious sweets. There are all sorts of fantastic little shops all around in each town. As for restaurants, your best bet is to ask a local where he/she eats. There are just too many great finds to list.
If you have somehow run out of things to do in this amazing part of Ontario, then the closest stop for a bit of big city fun is Toronto. Toronto is less than two hours away by car and makes for the perfect day trip. If you’ve never been to Toronto then you must first go to the CN Tower and have lunch in the restaurant at the top. The restaurant turns on the axis of the tower and provides the most amazing view of the city from all angles. Next check out the Royal Museum Ontario. If you’re visiting anytime other than winter, go to Casa Loma, which is a beautiful castle with spectacular seasonal gardens. Visiting the Toronto Zoo is a great activity, especially if traveling with children. You can also visit Niagara Falls. The drive (one way) is just under three hours and makes for a great day trip for people of all ages.
