Lucca: The city of Lucca is entirely surrounded by medieval fortress walls and is almost completely closed to traffic. Passing through the ancient Roman gates one is transported back in time. It is possible to meander on foot or bike through the narrow paved streets and tall buildings which seem to lean out to touch one another in the sky. There are ancient palaces, museums and churches all rich in history and culture. There are many small, elegant shops, restaurants, bars, cinemas and the famous Teatro del Giglio where Giacomo Puccini and Giuseppe Verdi operas are played to a packed house

Province of Lucca: The countryside of Lucca offers some of the most picturesque views in Italy; the antique summer villas and estates of the Lucchese nobility with their gardens, vineyards and olive groves, the ancient farmhouses and the medieval hilltop villages are unique. Travelling north one finds the spa town of Bagni di Lucca with it's thermal swimming pool and on the other side of the Serchio river is the town of Borgo a Mozzano with it's famous Devil's Bridge. The area to the north is know as Garfagnana and the panorama gradually changes from pine hills to a more mountainous terrain
