Description

Located on scenic Parker Point Road, our home, Edgewater, is just two miles from the center of the village of Blue Hill and is situated on it's own little peninsula overlooking Blue Hill Bay. It's a Maine classic, a charming gray-shingle cape from the front, looking deceptively like a single-story home, but with a dramatic two-level façade in back, featuring large bay windows and two decks facing the ocean. The wooded acre-and-a-half lot has more than 200 yards of oceanfront and is just steps away to a sweet cove and beach at low tide. Perfect for kayaking or canoeing

The upper-floor entry level has two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and a deck facing the ocean, looking out to gorgeous sunrises over the bay. There is an attached bathroom with a handicap-accessible shower. All linens and towels, including beach towels, are provided. The second bedroom has two full-size beds, with down comforters, and a water view through pines

The double-sized living room is very comfortable and is nicely decorated with classicly casual furnishings, antiques, a fireplace and cable TV. The ocean views from the living room are spectacular. Enjoy watching lobstermen pull up their traps and sailboats glide by. All manner of water birds, seals and wildlife abound. Because there is a full- height, walk-out lower level, the living room is on the upper level at the back of house, and from that elevated perch, the vistas of the bay are breathtaking. A large deck, which is accessible from both the living room and the dining room, is the perfect place to relax, dine, eat lobster, soak up the sun, have cocktails, listen to loons at dusk and view stars in brilliantly clear night skies

The eat-in kitchen is fully equipped, with an extensive collection of cooking utensils, china, flatware, glassware, and linens. There is a large refrigerator, an oven/range, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, two sinks and lobster pots. There is a half bath and pantry off the kitchen

A two-car, attached garage with washer and dryer is off the kitchen

A full-height, walk-out lower level with tall windows also has stunning ocean views. There is a large, comfy family room with a second satellite TV. There is also a queen-sized, pull-out sofa in the family room which can sleep two more. A nice-sized third bedroom on the lower level has a queen- size bed, a walk-in closet and sliding glass doors which open to more amazing ocean views. Another full bath with a shower is adjacent to this lower-level bedroom. A fourth bedroom with a queen bed and an in-suite bathroom is also on the lower level

A grassy yard leading down to the water is great place to watch kids play, to soak up the sea air in an Adirondack chair or cook out on a charcoal grill

The house comes equipped with high-speed internet, cable TV, and actually has central air conditioning, a rarity in Maine, although it is hardly ever needed

The house is only five minutes from the lovely coastal village of Blue Hill. There is a good-size Tradewinds grocery store in the village, as well as a drug store, a library, a bookstore, a wine shop, a bakery, several charming independent retail shops and galleries, including our favorite, The Meadow of Blue Hill. The village also has a fine-dining restaurant (Arborvine), a classic bar and grill (Marlintini's), a lobster shack ( the Fishnet) and the Blue Hill Co-op for great local produce, and organic foods

Acadia National Park and the mountains of Mount Desert Island, which you can see from Edgewater's decks, are only a 45 minute drive away and are must-visit highlights of any trip to the region. The nearby tourist port of Bar Harbor is always a fun experience before or after Acadia

Blue Hill is half an hour from beautiful, historic Castine, the home of the Maine Maritime Academy. The scenic drive to Deer Isle and Stonington, a classic commercial lobstering village, is well worth the trip

A little over 60 miles away, in Rockland, is the Farnsworth Art Museum which features works by three generations of Wyeths, N. C. , Andrew, and James, along with works by other artists from Maine. You'll find numerous antique shops along the route to Rockland

Closer to home, a hike to the top of Blue Hill affords incredible views and a good work-out. There are plenty of local farmers' markets weekly, and there is the Blue Hill Fair. And for the intrepid antique buff, opportunities are all around. Still, you'll find it hard to leave the fragrance of salt water and pines and the enchanting ocean views of Edgewater

The house is very close to water on two sides, it has two decks well above ground level and it isn't child-proofed. The two decks are a particular concern to us as owners. To facilitate snow removal, there are nine-inch gaps between the bottoms of safety railings and deck surfaces. Our worst nightmare is that an adventurous toddler could be unattended (even for a few moments), could go out to one of the desks, could slip easily through its safety-rail gap and could fall more than ten feet to hard gravel below. As a consequence, we prefer not to rent to families with children under the age of six
