Description

The Mt. Philo Inn is ideally located adjacent to Mt. Philo State Park in picturesque Charlotte, Vermont’s most affluent town, on a rural road surrounded by preserved fields and mountain ranges. The park offers the best accessible 360° views in Vermont! Pack a picnic and drive to the top or walk over along our private road through a sugar maple forest for a day of hiking, nature and fun in the great outdoors. Mt. Philo is famous for winter sledding, and is the home of jack-jumping. The historic inn, previously a commune, features four spacious suites-- three 3-bedroom and one 2-bedroom —located in separate wings of the building. Each “wing” is an entire floor of the inn, with a complete kitchen, 2 bathrooms, living rooms, porch and private entrance. The Mt. Philo Inn provides a laid-back, comfortable and genuine Vermont experience, away from the highways and lights, but convenient to both Burlington and Middlebury. We feature solidly crafted furniture, hardwood floors, original decorative brass door hardware, yellow birch molding, stone counters, locally sourced foods, soaps and artwork. Left Wing features: A large fully equipped kitchen ideal for cooking and entertaining with modern stainless appliances. A large Champlain Black handmade counter with embedded fossils. Oil paintings by Tad Spurgeon Wide bank of living room windows with views of flower gardens, a peaceful fountain, Mt. Philo and the lake. Refrigerators are stocked with a breakfast basket of quality Vermont products. Your feet will stay warm on the heated slate bathroom floor when you slide into your jetted bubbler soaking tub in the upstairs bathroom. A spacious steam shower of reclaimed blackboard slate and mosaic tile floor highlight the downstairs bathroom. Handmade beds are from 200 year old yellow birch barn boards. Enjoy your favorite beverage with a great view of the lake on your marble patio. Soak in the vibe of the neighborhood and rural Charlotte. Innkeepers for over 25 years, David and Jane Garbose have given thought to the inn’s facelift-- preserving the inn’s gorgeous woodwork and hardware; sourcing local building materials when possible; decorating with a minimalist and eclectic style; and emphasizing products from local companies. The result is an updated classic that exudes a simple elegance and peaceful vibe. The MPI has extraordinary TripAdvisor reviews and has earned recognition as a "Fordors Choice Hotel", one of 5 in northern Vermont
