Validation FAQs

What is Validation?

Validation is a quick and easy way to confirm your identity and address, so other members will feel more comfortable meeting, hosting and staying with you.

Tripping will validate that

  • you are who you say you are
  • you live where you say you live

Why does Validation cost $15?

It costs us about $15 every time we Validate someone, so we're asking for help cover our costs. This fee supports the Validation process as well as the Tripping community. If you're unable to pay this fee for any reason, please feel free to contact us directly to learn about alternative ways to set up a Validation Interview.

How does Validation work?

We'll arrange a face-to-face call via Skype, where we'll ask you to hold up your passport and proof of address. Once we update your Tripping account to match your information, a "Validated" stamp will appear on your profile.

Your privacy is very important to us, so please note that your information will remain 100% confidential.

Do you save my name and address?

Your full name and address will be saved in our database, but it will NEVER become public information.

Do you save my passport information?

No - we don't save your passport information.

While we'll look at your passport over Skype, we will not save any of your passport information (such as your passport number). As travelers ourselves, we know how important it is to keep your passport secure.

Do I need to get Validated to use Tripping?

No - you're welcome to use Tripping even if you're not Validated. We simply offer Validation as an added safety feature that gives our members greater peace of mind while traveling and hosting.

How does Validation keep Tripping safe?

Validation enables us to confirm the identity of our members, so you can feel more confident meeting other Trippers in real life.

If you had the choice between hosting an anonymous Tripper and one who has proven her identity, wouldn't you prefer to host the Validated Tripper? So would we, which is why we created Validation.

Please note: Validated users have simply proven their identity and address to us. They have not undergone a background check, so you should always look at their profiles carefully and correspond with them before meeting in real life.

What are the benefits of being Validated?

Once you've been Validated, other Trippers will feel more comfortable meeting, hosting and staying with you.

This means you'll have more connections, visitors and home stays... just for being yourself!

What do I need before getting Validated?

  • Your passport
  • Proof of Address (e.g. a recent utility bill)
  • A Skype account
  • Access to a computer that has a webcam, microphone and broadband connection

Can I get Validated without a passport?

We're only accepting passports for now, but we are looking into accepting other forms of government-issued identification in the future. You're welcome to contact us if you have any questions about this.

What counts as proof of address?

We will accept any of the following documents as proof of address if they are dated within the past three months:

  • A utility bill
  • A bank statement
  • UPS/FedEx/mail receipt card
  • A deed, mortgage, monthly mortgage statement, or residential lease

You can download Skype for free at www.skype.com
