We have just returned from a wonderful week in Lisbon, staying in this beautiful apartment. It is well located in a quiet area, but only a few minutes' walk from Sta Apolonia station where you can get the Metro, or a train out of the city. It is also an easy walk into many areas of Lisbon (which is a very compact city, lovely to wander around).
The apartment owners speak excellent English and are happy to help with any requests. We had our 9 month old baby with us and they provided a travel cot and a highchair for him.
Because of the baby, we didn't eat out in the evenings, but enjoyed cooking in the well-equipped kitchen. There are some local shops very close by, and a larger supermarket, Pingo Doce, in Sta Apolonia station, from which you can buy everything you need. The owners also provide a list of local restaurants which they recommend.
Be aware that you will need to bring the balance of your payment for the apartment in cash, plus the damage deposit, otherwise you will have to take a trip to the local cash-machine, as we did!
Joao, one of the owners, lives close by and has a workshop next door. Joana, the other owner, was in regular contact with us via e.mail before and during our trip, so we always felt that we could get in touch with either of them should we need to.
The apartment is beautifully decorated, and contains both some striking modern art (some by Joao) and some lovely antique furniture. The balcony looks over a gorgeous courtyard with citrus trees and yet more art on display; a really wonderful place to sit and enjoy your morning coffee or afternoon tea!
We would definitely highly recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to explore Lisbon.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely spacious apartment, which is located in a very peaceful part of the old quarter of Lisbon. We woke every morning to the sound of birds singing and the fountain in the courtyard below. The balcony overlooking the garden was hard to leave behind! It is easy to walk through the old quarter and up to the castle, or into the centre of the city from the apartment, but it is also only a few minutes walk to the metro or buses. There are plenty of cosy restaurants nearby, with fado singing every evening. We would definitely recommend the apartment, with its friendly owners, and this part of Lisbon, to anyone wanting a relaxing stay in this lovely city.
We had some really great days in this lovely, romantic flat. The photos don´t lie, it looks even better in real. The flat is nicely decorated by the owner who is an artist. It got art on the walls and nice furniture. From the kitchen you have a lovely balcony with morning sun. Here you can enjoy your breakfast which you can buy from the bakery and mini marked down the street. From the balcony you can see the charming rooftops of Alfama and it´s overlooking the owners lush garden (he has a studio at the ground floor). I would not pick any other place to live in Lisbon, than Alfama, it´s the best area in Lisbon! It got everything, piqtoresque old houses, lot´s of nice restaurant´s, both small family run "tascas" and more upscaled ones. We went to some of those recommended by the owner, and they were all good. You can trust his recommendation. One of them was just 2 minutes walk from the flat and it had a great view over the river and very good food.
The owner himself was a very nice guy and he spoke fluent english. You can ask him everything. We can highly recommend this flat and we hope we can come back soon!
My girlfriends and I (three people) stayed in this lovely apartment for 6 nights. We arrived late due to flight delay and were met cheerfully by Joao. The apartment was comfortable, nicely decorated, very light and airy. We enjoyed sunny afternoons sipping a glass of wine on the balcony overlooking the courtyard. It was a little early for flowers blooming, but you can tell it will bursting with color in just a few weeks.
The neighborhood was quiet and very convenient to many interesting places. Taxis were easy to find just down the hill and near the Fado Museum. On Joao's suggestion, we ate the first night at a little neighborhood restaurnat-A Gruta Do Paraiso (about a two minuted walk). We enjoyed the simple food so much, we ate there 4 of the 6 nights at the apartment.
Our reservation process was made very easy by Joana. She speaks English very well and her communicatons were thorough and very prompt. If we go back to Lisbon, we will definitely stay here! Thank you Joao and Joana!

We visited Lisbon for a week in March 2012 and had the most wonderful time! The apartment was just lovely and its balcony overlooking a beautiful courtyard, where we had our breakfast, was a real joy with both sunshine and shaded areas to choose from. The apartment was also in a perfectly located in the old part of Lisbon in Alfama and the owners couldn’t have been more welcoming and friendly. The cobbled streets and nearness to all of Lisbon was terrific. We did a lot of walking all round Lisbon, rode the trams, went to Castle São Jorge which is beautiful with its views and peacocks, visited many interesting museums and historic places and enjoyed the most wonderful views at many places scattered around Lisbon whilst having a coffee. We also travelled by train to both Sintra and Cascais which are well worth visiting. All in all, it was a perfect visit, both relaxing and stimulating, the food is great and the apartment was perfect!

"Unsere 2 Tage in Lissabon waren toll.
Our stay in December 2011 in this place was great. The location is perfect and the place itself, especially the decoration is just marvellous. Also my kids enjoyed it very much, above all the spacious living room and the wooden floors. I felt like a princess in the four poster bed! Even when the outside temperatures at the beginning of December where cold, we felt cosy and warm inside.

Lisbon Apartment Alfama River
You cannot enjoy a Lisbon experience without coming here. No point in concealing: the streets will be narrow and disorderly, the smells will be contrasting, the noises will mingle with the sound of the Portuguese guitar. This is its charm.
The authenticity and spontaneity of the neighbourhood will seduce you in a minute. Forget the city and venture yourself. This 90m2 apartment has a cozy kitchen with: 4 ring stove, Oven, Fridge, Freezer, Washing machine, Microwave, Toaster, Wand blender, Coffee machine and Juice machine. It also has CD, DVD, TV (satellite/cable) and Internet wireless access.Besides being a perpetual winner of Lisbon's popular march contests, Alfama is one of Lisbon's oldest and typical neighbourhoods. The Arab influence here is clear. Starting with its name "Alfama" which derives from al-hamma (baths or fountains).
As the Santa Apolónia railway station is only a few steps away, coming or going from Alfama could not be easier. And you can be sure: you will be received with open arms. Or with closed eyes. Silence, fado singing is about to being!
