Suite in Hawiian House with amazing views
In Hawaii we have a word: "Ohana". Now, the literal meaning of Ohana is family. but the way it is often used is to describe a guest house or spare bedroom, because that is where your Ohana would stay. So at The Terraces we try to provide both.
A place to rest your head and a place where you feel at home. The Terraces is a place where you are treated as Ohana. We are glad to have you on the island, and believe that most businesses try to color your Hawaii experience one way or another. The point of our farm, is that we don't. Hawaii is a beautiful place. Where you can have fun all day, and always come back to our Ohana and yours.
"The Terraces" is a educational and sustainable farm. Located on the south side of Hawaii's Big Island. We specialize in every thing from fresh food, to the Hawaii experience. But every thing we do here we do with love, a smile, and the Aloha spirit.
The Terraces' motto is, "where small things matter, choose wisely."
Our mission is to provide an environment in paradise, where you choose your vacation.
We have every thing from vegetables and meals, to Big Island knowledge. But that is far from the end product. Here we are trying to make a place, a home, and a foundation for the Hawaii experience YOU want.
We have good cell phone service, and parking and we can tell you about many of the "secret spots" in Hawaii … but we do not have cable TV.
Local attractions include: South Point, Green Sand Beach, Black Sand Beach (Punuluu), the fishing village of Milolii, Nahalehu, Manuka State Park, Wood Valley, Road to the Sea, Hookena, Whittington Beach State Park, Pahala, coffee farms and Wood Valley.
Local activities include: hiking, swimming, snorkeling, ocean side cliffs for jumping and diving, snorkeling, volcanoes, lava hikes, dolphin swims, and whales (in season).
Find local organic fruits and vegetables, not to mention health and harmony.
We have plenty of fresh air and a 2980 foot elevation that combined with a well-insulated home makes air conditioning or heating obsolete, the temperature in the house only varies a few degrees. At night you can look out the many windows and, on a clear night, see all the stars that you miss in more "civilized" locations.
Since we are not licensed as either a B&B; or a restaurant we can not serve meals and charge for them. However, we welcome our guests, as friends, to eat with the family and contribute what they will toward the cost of food and preparation as a donation … we have no hard and fast rules, we solicit information concerning your preferences and see meals as enjoyable social occasions. There is a small, college dorm style refrigerator upstairs for your snacks and drinks. Just give us a heads up so that we know what meals you will join us for and if you need to have any box lunches made for your excursions.
Infant and child beds, as well as floor mats suitable for teens (who are welcome to stay in the tree house) are available.

Since Hiroko's Hideaway became my home, I am proud to introduce Hale Waena: This sweet little 1 bedroom house is perfect as a Healing Sanctuary for recovery and restoration of the Body, Mind and Soul. With its living room, integrated kitchen, bathroom and screened in, big lanai (balcony) it provides a space to retreat, to recover from daily life in a peaceful setting, where one can find back to the Self.(Sleep 2 comfortably, 4 maximum) In rural Ocean View, Big Island, Hawaii, at the slopes of Mauna Loa, about 3200' altitude, surrounded by 100 years old Ohia-trees, it provides a home away from home, fully equipped for your stay....
As for your vacation and adventure tours Hale Waena is located on about a 1 acre parcel of very quiet country 3 miles off of the main southern highway about halfway between Kailua-Kona and Volcano. A perfect location for those who want to explore the southern part of the Big Island. Just a couple miles from the house is a landscape of "painted earth" that is such a wonder of rich colors in contrast to the black lava flows. And the area is filled with diverse adventures such as watching the full moon rise from the southernmost point in the US (South Point) and exploring a lava tube, to seeing turtles on Black Sand Beach and seeing the rare Green Sand Beach. Farther afield are the Kona coffee plantations and the Volcano National Park, both worth visiting.
Since I get so many questions about location and beach access I shall post here my response to one of the inquiries:
Hale Waena is on the same property were Hale Pomaka'i is. I will be there for your needs. Linen and everything will be included in the quote. Even though you would need a car to get around, if you look for peace and serenity you might find it here..... (since we are located on Mauna Loa, 3200' altitude, away from stores and city traffic the next beach access is about 20-30 min driving distance, the Kona airport is about 1 1/2 hrs away, the Hilo airport 2 - 2 1/2 hrs. Ocean View village with its stores, gas stations and post office is in about 6 min driving distance)
Adventure tours can be booked with my friend Robert (Apapane Productions and Adventures) who will show you the beauty of our region Ka'u, a treat you do not want to miss!
Special offers - including Tarot/Numerology Readings and Charts, Reiki Sessons (other wellness sessions as Aqua Balancing, Chi Gong, Massages etc. are in the making) can be booked, while you are here.
