Located in a historic building in the best area of Cuenca. You can walk to all major stores and minutes to El Centro without the noise and pollution. We are a few blocks away from the new beautiful Parque De Madre and across from the river and steps that go up to Calle Larga. The unit has been remodeled and is a ground floor corner unit with an outdoor patio. It has a double bed and bunk beds that can be changed to a double if needed. plenty of closet space. The kitchen is fully equipped with a large fridge and all utensils for cooking. The unit comes with cable and high speed wifi. We also have a dvd player and lots of movies. The building is very safe, secure and quiet. The owner lives in the building and is American. Laundry service provided at an extra fee. This is the lowest price unit in the building.
We have reconstructed a traditional rural adobe home in downtown Cuenca that we call Pumamaqui Accommodations. Four large studio apartments surround a garden and cobblestone courtyard, with the city just outside your door. The apartment listed here is single-level, with separate bedroom, study and living areas, and faces an exuberant flower garden and cobblestone courtyard. The street-facing side is our new art gallery, PumamaquiGalerías.
Three features make Pumamaqui Accommodations extraordinary: A beautifully reconstituted building with all new amenities; the quiet central courtyard that feels like an oasis in the bustle of the city; and proximity to all that the two Cuencas--historic and modern--have to offer.
Rentals include broadband WiFi, cable TV, iron and ironing board, abundant hot water, hair dryer, complete kitchen (including toaster, microwave, coffee maker, plates, pots and pans, cutlery, wine glasses), linens and towels, washer and dryer, interior courtyard and garden with hummingbirds. All utilities are included.
The owners are Stuart White, an ex-academic from the United States and alpaca rancher in Ecuador for 30 years, and his wife Patricia Espadero, a veterinarian and a Cuencana. We are eager for guests to have a memorable experience, and we will be available to help with suggestions about outings, local restaurants and cultural events.
Enjoy the comforts of a home (rather than just a bed in a room) for what you’d pay for a basic hotel in Cuenca!
Following the description of this apartment (at the bottom) is a 'checklist' of things you might consider when examining other properties. Be sure to look it over so you get the RIGHT FIT FOR YOU!!!
Now, about this apartment.....
Situated in the old adobe complex, through the secured front gate and past the garden courtyard this unit is set back away from the busy street where you can enjoy QUIET!
The unit has two bedrooms plus one bath (with shower), a living area with a flat-screen TV and DVR (plus lots of DVD’s!!), stereo, and a laundry porch with full-sized washer AND dryer (IN the unit, not located somewhere else)..
The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you’ll need (except food!)…gas cooktop/oven, microwave, toaster, blender, coffee-maker, toaster oven, and tall refrigerator. OH!! A cell phone AND internet are provided, too! Hot water at ALL outlets.
All this within steps of the heart of Cuenca, the old colonial ‘El Centro’ district.
Though this apartment is technically 2 bedrooms, one is used as a dressing room where the closets have been relocated, but it also has a single fold-down sofa/seat (see photo with blue 'sofa') available for those times where there's been an argument or someone snores!!!. The bed in the primary bedroom is a Queen. The bed is NOT located in the same space as the living room (like some other rentals)!!
• Directly across from the Tomebamba river, greenbelt, and El Centro ‘old town’ Cuenca
• Next to a large, newly renovated park (Parque de la Madre) and brand new Planetarium.
• 4 blocks to a major supermarket, ½ block to major bank
• Pharmacies, medical/dental offices, and hospital all within about 6 blocks
• 6 blocks to the soccer stadium
• Want a taxi? A bus? 1 block to Ave Solano and you’re set.
Availability: Please review the online calendar. 5 nights minimum stay/60 nights maximum.
Pricing: $34 a night (less than a Motel 6!). Staying more than 24 days? Then you'll qualify for the monthly rate ($825) which means the rate drops significantly to only $27.50 a night!! A savings of $195. Think of it...how many nights would you be able to stay in a hotel for $825 anywhere else around the world? 10?? I recently paid $100 a night for a Motel 6 in Miami! And this is a fully furnished apartment!!
FULL DISCLOSURE: Like most older buildings in Cuenca, there is no elevator. The unit is located 3 levels up. Also, to walk to the El Centro requires walking up a set of stairs across the river. If you have walking/climbing issues, you might consider my other listing (under the title Modern Loft Apt 6 blocks from El Centro)..
Pickup can be arranged whether you arrive in Cuenca at the airport, bus terminal, or van service.
Driver services also available. I have lived here over 3 years. I can drive you in a modern SUV 4 x 4 to places around Cuenca and the outskirts so you can experience and see more. Thinking of relocating? I can show you various neighborhoods in-town, rural areas, and/or towns outside Cuenca. $12 an hour includes gas and all the information your brain can digest!
YOUR CHECKLIST WHEN VIEWING OTHER PROPERTIES
* Location. Can you walk to most everything you'll want to do, or do you always need to take a taxi or bus?
* Is the unit above a busy street with noisy busses, honking horns, and car alarms ruining your space?
* Does the unit have hot water at the kitchen sink, bathroom sink (rare here), and shower?
* Does the shower have direct-piped hot water, or one of those electric shower-heads that produce only lukewarm water (known as 'widow-makers')?
* Does the unit have an oven or just a cooktop?
* Does it have both a washer and dryer IN the unit?
* Does it have a tiny fridge? Is it sitting on the floor where you darn near have to get on your knees to get anything?
* If 2 people are sleeping in the same bed, can they walk around both sides of the bed?
* Is the bed(s) located in the SAME space as the living room?
These kinds of things can make the difference between an 'okay' experience and a great one. Closely examine the photos in each listing and look for details in the descriptive write-up.
