San Francisco and Golden Gate Views from Tiburon Estate
No hotel or resort can offer the privacy, stunning views or luxurious amenities of our Golden Gate Villa. Located on the beautiful Tiburon Peninsula, in close proximity to everything San Francisco has to offer. No other villa rental can compare.
We were so fortunate to have Sandra go out of her way, in every way, to accommodate us in her most special, luxurious view property.
It's an experience we will never forget.
We have stayed in Sausalito for 20 years and finally found our best view location, in the most special - the finest that we have ever found - Sandra's Penthouse villa in the best spot in Marin for views, views views!
Sandra went so far, to make our vacation extra special, and my wife will always treasure the special antique gift for her many hats.
And the villa was like living in Paradise! Thank you for everything.
Sandra, thank you for opening your beautiful home to us.
The wait staff, the breakfast, the fresh flowers and the view were all exceptional.
Thank you again,
What a life changing experience it has been for me staying in this magnificent place!
Thank you, love
And may Sandra always have an opening for me! I may have to lease the entire year
Usually, when people post reviews on sites like this, it's because they are angry. They buy a product that they can't return or exchange, or get what they consider to be sub-standard service from a provider, and write nasty reviews. It's often the only recourse they have, and the only way to vent their frustration. This review is born from the OPPOSITE kind of feeling. After staying in this property, my feelings are so overwhelmingly positive, that writing a strongly worded review is the only way I and express my feelings. I am a professional musician and I travel a LOT for work. I discovered VRBO about two years ago, and consider it an amazing value alternative to hotels. Spend four or five hundred on a hotel in the Bay Area and see what you get! This is my fifth or sixth stay in Saundra's villa, and considering how awesome it is, I was lucky it was available. My Mother stayed with us, coming from Boston to be part of the Mill Valley Art Show. As an extremely accomplished clothing designer and maker, she works from 'scratch'; making the material, thread, buttons, every part. You could say she's a bit of a design connoisseur. she instantly fell in love with Sandra's place, specifically, her sense of aesthetic. She hadn't before stayed in a nicer, more beautiful home, without feeling like she was in a museum. To her, Saundra's villa was spectacular and opulent, while instantly feeling like home. Thats how I felt the first time I stayed! The grounds, the view, the furnishings and fixtures, down the the reading materials, all impress and invite. I have never gotten more value from this kind of travel accommodation, and frankly, never stayed in a nicer, more impressive, more INVITING home! Even if you aren't staying in Tiburon, rent this home. Even if you aren't staying north of the city, fight through the extra 15 minutes of morning traffic (what a JOKE ;) and rent this home. Even if you aren't staying in the Bay Area, change your plans to stay in Texas, or New York, or wherever, and RENT THIS HOME!!!! It is amazing.
I come to San Francisco from Boston quite often on business and only wish I could lease VGG by the year.
On this trip I got to invite my Mom to stay at Sandra's place. We are from Boston and my Mom was invited to the famous Arts Fair in Mill Valley.
My Mom stayed downstairs in the 2nd bedroom and couldn't stop talking about Sandra's sense of style. She thoroughly enjoyed her private suite and even gave Sandra some tips for the private garden outside her room, which had everything she needed to get ready for her shows, then relax after.
Sandra is constantly working on making her 'Retreat' the most special place. We wouldn't think of staying anywhere else when we are in San Francisco, and because I come often on business, I only wish I could take out a yearly lease so that Villa Golden Gate was always available.
FYI Sandra always has much more in the Villa than she advertises, and everything is taken care of for you. We just couldn't ask for more.
Thank you Anita, for the lovely chocolates and for giving us our first Engagement. Congratulations, and have you thought about what a wonderful Honeymoon retreat we would make...
Our Best to Your Family
Sandra, thank you for opening your beautiful home to us.
The wait staff, the breakfast, the flowers and the views were all exceptional.
We will definitely be referring your place.
Thank you again.
Denise, Merlene, Jocelyn and Clint.
My friends and family spent only a few days at Sandra's Villa Golden Gate. We could not believe how beautiful were the views (from every room), the art, architecture, attention to detail, and especially how we were treated.
Sandra was very upfront and explained that while she had never been seen or heard, as she is paralyzed; she has lived in Tiburon over 30 years and is just a phone call away should we need anything, and asked us to view her video and read her reviews, which we did.
We also discussed the 2nd bedroom, which was perfect for us. Like a penthouse villa, plus! The master bedroom is more beautiful than a French 5 star hotel, and the pull-out sofas were said to be very comfortable.
We didn't have enough time to stay at Villa Golden Gate unfortunately, so we are making arrangements to come back this year - for much longer.
We come to Tiburon every year to see our children and Grand-children, but this was the first year we stayed at Sandra's Villa Golden Gate.
Her special touch is found throughout the amazing villa, and there is nothing she won't do for you. I don't know how she does it, but we had total privacy while at the same time, we never had to change a lightbulb and always had fresh flowers, not to forget the most delicious breakfast.
We have already booked more dates because this treasure will soon be discovered!
This was our third trip to this truly wonderful getaway, and we are trying to book our next stay, now. I want to give my Mother a special present and a week at Sandra's piece of paradise would be perfect.
Wish me luck...
Sandra and Mariah,
Thank you for making our stay so wonderful! Breakfast was yummy! And Sandra your house is just beautiful! I loved cooking in your kitchen and looking at all the gorgeous art (and the Views!)
It is very hard to leave!
The awesome views you see in the photos, and the lovely art and architecture in the home speak for themselves. My wife and I have been renting high end homes in Marin County for years, and this is the best "view" home we've ever found.
If this home fits you might easily rate it 5 stars.
But there are a few issues that you should know first and that the owner, at the time of this writing, is not, in our opinion, being forth right about.
Many revolve around the "second" bedroom. The second bedroom is reached only by an outdoor path down some steep, uneven stairs with no handrail for much of the distance. If you older, carrying kids, tired or tipsy these might not be the stairs for you. Also if you need to keep an eye or an ear on what's going on in this bedroom, that will be impossible. It is on a lower level and no sound or sight is possible.
This bottom level is shared with the two hostesses for your stay, Ms. Sandra and Ms. Mariah. Although this home was originally built as a single family, Sandra has quite cleverly created a separate apartment for herself and her helper within the lower level. They are very quiet and although you might occasionally see Mariah, you will likely never see Sandra, since she is confined to her quarters due to an illness.
Which brings us full circle to second bedroom. Ms. Sandra does on some infrequent occasions need to use the handicap shower in the second bedroom. She is assisted by Ms. Mariah. They always leave the bathroom immaculate and provide plenty of warning, so many guests might actually find this a benefit.
So why only 3 stars? The downstairs bedroom didn't work for us. We thought it would (we had the benefit of knowing both that the second bedroom was outside, and that Sandra and Maria lived in the home- two things that are not mentioned on the listing, at the time of this writing) and we thought we could deal with both.
Unfortunately we couldn't. Neither of us could deal with the journey to the second bedroom (we sometimes move into separate beds during the night and no way was that possible here).
Second my wife just didn't like having two other people living in the home. I'm not sure why but she got tired of it pretty fast (it never bothered me at all).
So that's the two factors, and full disclosure, for two weeks of our eight, we did get full use of the second bedroom. Those were the weeks that our teenage children showed. The second bedroom was perfect for them!
Thank you so much for providing us with this beautiful retreat. The month has flown by!
We have managed to entertain family and friends - and we even had a couple of business meetings in this wonderful environment. Everyone was struck by the fabulous views and elegant decor. We particularly loved the photos in the bedroom!
Lee enjoyed his A.M. walk to the ferry so much that he never availed himself of your kind offer to have Mariah drive him. Being able to work in SF and relax in Tiburon was very special.
We consider ourselves very fortunate to have been among the first - you have been 'discovered' and Villa Golden Gate should become very successful - we hope so!
Finally, it was a pleasure meeting you, Sandra. You are a fascinating person and we wish you the very best.
Speaking of which...we have stayed in the very best, were enthralled by the views, stopped to smell the flowers (!) and had a wonderful time. I just hope we can do it again!!
Fondly. Diane and Lee S.
Thank you so much for allowing us to share your beautiful home. We couldn't feel more pampered! Your attention to every has made our vacation truly special.
We can hardly believe that we have 4 more days to wake up to this spectacular view!
Delicious breakfast. Thank you very much! Sandra, what a life changing experience it has been for me, staying in this magnificent place!
Thank you for everything. Best to you. Your flowers are beautiful and the fruit is so good. Thank you for everything!
Sandra, we send our holiday greetings to you, Mariah and Joe. We thank you again for all you did to make our October stay one of the highlights of 2012.
Happy New Year Too!
Thank you so much for opening your home to us. We had a wonderful time and your home is beautiful!
We will definitely consider another visit and refer others!
Thank you for allowing us to share your beautiful home and for your generous hospitality.
This week has been truly fantastic.
Dear Sandra. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Your home is lovely. We hope to be back same time next year.
Dear Sandra. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Your home is lovely. We hope to be back same time next year.
Thank you so much for sharing your patch of Eden with us.
I am writing this while a hummingbird visits the morning glories blooming across the hedge, below the patio.
Your gardens are such an inspiration! Everywhere I look I find beauty, sanctuary, peace and pleasure.
My home in New York is 3 acres of opportunity. I return with a head full of dreams and a camera full of pictures.
You are truly the "Garden Queen"!
Many thanks again.
This is an extraordinary home that I feel lucky enough to have been able to stay in. I could tell from the pictures there was a good view of the Golden Gate and the city, but the actual views where far MORE breathtaking. Every aspect of this home was in the absolute best taste imaginable. From the glass corner windows throughout the house that made the views and light more extraordinary, to one of the best kitchens I have ever been fortunate enough to cook in, to the wonderful decor, furniture, fixtures, art work and magnificent grounds, this house is an absolute marvel. We did not go out for dinner once; we just kept shopping and bringing supplies needed to fully enjoy this special, special place. The owner is both very friendly and accommodating as well. And it is a very easy trip to almost anywhere in the North Bay Area, easy access to the East Bay as well, and was a very easy trip from SFO airport if one avoids the busiest times. We can't wait to rent this wonderful house again!!!! FIVE STARS !!!!!
Everything inside and out was picture perfection. We enjoyed 'hanging out' so much in this lovely, spacious villa we rarely left, except for beautiful ferry rides to San Francisco, in only 15 minutes.
We will be back as soon as we can, and give this special rental 5 Stars!!!!!
We can't say enough about the outrageous beauty of this one-of-a-kind villa rental. We felt like royalty. We were treated the same.
We will never forget our stay here, until we can make it back.
We hated to leave, we can't wait to come back, to the best of everything.
We had several things to do on our itinerary; friends to visit and great restaurant recommendations. But we could not and did not leave Villa Golden Gate, except for trips to the market. We have never had nor seen such an incredible home, kitchen and VIEWS.
Everywhere you look is beauty; the architecture, the fantastic kitchen looking straight out to San Francisco and the striking Golden Gate. The beauty of the interior and thoughtfulness of the owner could not be surpassed.
Can't recommend rate highly enough nor wait until our return. We will definitely tell our friends about this treasure.
A superb experience.
We are property owners ourselves and have rented privately several times. This property is AMAZING. The pictures don't do it justice. Sandra, the owner is so generous, we couldn't believe how many "extras" there were and the high spec finishes throughout made it truly special.
And then there are the views. And I mean views, not view. The villa has been designed and built to take advantage of both incredible views of the city and the Golden Gate Bridge to the south and west, as well as delightful views over Tiburon harbour and north to Mount Tamalpais. This was definitely a place that was difficult to drag ourselves away from - even though the great ferry service to San Francisco was an short ride through the winding streets.
Tiburon is a delightful little town too, with a nice selection of restaurants etc. Plan to spend a bit of time here.
But plan to spend time at Via Golden Gate too - why leave when you have a truly luxurious and spectacular villa with those views? Can't recommend it highly enough.
We'd love to return.
Thanks for everything Sandra!
We spent a month in Villa Golden Gate, and it was wonderful. The views are, indeed, absolutely jaw-dropping; and amazingly, they change dramatically with the time of day or weather. Yet they are truly equaled by the beauty of the villa itself (meticulously designed by the owner Sandra), with its vaulted spaces and outdoor terraces.
As noted in another review, the villa is rather like a penthouse, as Sandra and her assistant live on the floor below, though totally separately. And they both go out of their way to be unobtrusive yet responsive to any request immediately. It is definitely hotel service in a villa rental.
The main living space is large and open, with a bedroom suite and luxurious bath, living room, dining area, eat-in kitchen, laundry, powder room and office, all with fantastic views.
We had friends visit, and made use of the 2nd bedroom (and full bath) and living room sleep sofa. This 2nd bedroom is totally separate, on the lower level, and is accessed via the front terrace and outdoor steps. It is large and can be set up as a king size bed or two twins. The living room sleep sofa was reported to be very comfortable.
The villa's location is really ideal for visiting local Marin towns, the coastal regions and wine country. It's also an easy walk into town (if you don't mind steep hills and steps), where you can have breakfast, lunch, dinner or drinks at any number of restaurants, shop, go for a run, or hop a ferry to San Fran or Angel Island. Regardless of your activities, I guarantee you will be anxious to return "home" to this piece of paradise.
We were certainly sad to have our month here end, but we are comforted by the hope that we can return to this very special place in the future!
The sleep sofa was, as reported to us, quite comfortable.
Sorry it has taken me a little while to thank you again for such a wonderful visit to your villa. This was our third stay in your heavenly spot. It seems every time we are there you have added another thoughtful amenity. Not to mention the best amenities always there, peace and quiet and those stunning views.
Truly a lovely place, very comfortable, spacious, with breathtaking views. More like an ultra deluxe penthouse, with the owner living below, although you'd never know she's there. Spectacular for couples, the second bedroom is outside and downstairs, not great at night and in the rain, but otherwise perfectly comfortable as well. The property is clean, beautifully decorated and has an open airy feel. Mostly, though it's all about that view. At night, sunset, sunrise, sunny, foggy, doesn't matter, it's awesome. Highly recommended.
Villa was clean and well stocked. Not a two bedroom but sleeper sofa in living room unless there is a bedroom hiding somewhere I wasn't showm. So glad our friends were unable to join us. Also owner lives on property in the downstairs portion which was a surprise to me. Had trouble getting directions and instructions prior to stay. Was calling and emailing the week prior to stay trying to get some info and finally got an answer the day before we were to arrive when the phone was finally answered. Got an email but poor instructions. Arrived at villa with gated entry and no instructions how to get in. Fortunately someone answered the phone number I had thought to save in my phone and opened the gate and to our surprise lived on the premises. I value my privacy very much and was very disappointed that this important piece of information was withheld. We only saw the owners assistant however, it is very disconcerting knowing there are occupants in the same home when I expected complete privacy after reading the description in the listing. I have rented numerous properties and have never had this difficulty getting information prior to stay nor have I ever experienced other occupants on premises during my stay that was not predisclosed.

The local theatre is just two blocks away and right in the center of it all. San Francisco is only 8 miles away and easily accessible by BART. While visiting, make sure to read about The Elmwood and its colorful history. A book of local lore is aptly named: "A Tale of the Elmwood District in Berkeley," and is a gallery of the area's history. Here is what Charles Burress, Chronicle Staff Writer had to write about The Elmwood in the Chronicle on Monday, January 1, 2001
" Berkeley -- Just about every neighborhood has a story to tell, but few are remembered in time's long parade. But in Berkeley, a city passionate about protecting neighborhoods, there is one district so beloved by the citizens that it has inspired its own biography.
The book's gallery of former Elmwood residents ranges from creative giants like painter Richard Diebenkorn to historical figures like Ishi, called "the last wild Indian of North America" in the subtitle of Theodora Kroeber's well- known biography of him. Other famous folks have called Elmwood home, including Jane Fonda, Eldridge Cleaver, Thornton Wilder and Tom Dunphy, better known as "General Waste-more-land" in many anti-war demonstrations.
"Fonda was often seen shopping on College Avenue or at the Berkeley Co-op on Telegraph Avenue," the book notes in one of its many vignettes. "If someone stopped to tell her that she looked like Jane Fonda, the modest actor would reply, 'Oh, everyone says that.' "
Fonda, who moved to the Elmwood in 1971, met her future husband, Tom Hayden, at a radical parent-participation nursery school in the Elmwood called Blue Fairyland. Hayden, who helped create Students for a Democratic Society and became a state senator, was a founder of the Red Family commune, a group of idealistic New Leftists living on Bateman Street (whose sign often reads "Bat man Street," thanks to local nighttime painters).
Elmwood House is located right in the heart of Elmwood, and shopping, theater and dining are just steps from the front porch!
