is an independent 7 rooms private villa located in the sleepy village of Canggu just 30 minutes from Bali's international airport and a short drive from one of Asia's finest championship 18-hole golf courses. The nearby Pererenan beach is a renowned surf spot and hosts great seafood bar-b-que restaurants. <br><br>Set within 3000 square meters of beautifully landscaped gardens, surrounded by verdant rice terraces and overlooking a gentle river, the villa is an oasis for weary travelers wishing to escape the pressures of modern city lifestyle. Typically, Balinese style architecture and furnishings, the villa evokes a calming ambience that will be long, remembered by all guests. The magnificent tropical garden, shaded by mature trees is the perfect outdoor environment to relax and rejuvenate.<br><br>The villa is also well suited for retreat groups, weddings and special functions like birthdays or anniversaries.
A steep driveway, reminiscent of a winding street in a Mediterranean hillside village, brings you to the entrance of this exceptional villa. From here an elevator ascends three floors carrying you to a large open lobby where you are confronted by Bali in her full, majestic, awesome glory. Welcome to The Longhouse! With its spectacular vantage point on a hill above Jimbaran, this unusually long, three-storey house just soaks up the view. From every room – and from the 60sqm infinity pool, which appears to overflow into the extraordinary scene – Bali’s southern plains are laid out before you like a map upon a dashboard. The narrow isthmus that links the Bukit Peninsula with the rest of the island is clearly visible, with ocean on both sides, extending north past the crescent-shaped Jimbaran Bay along the sunset coast before reaching inland. On a clear day you can see Bali’s chain of volcanoes, from the mighty Mt Agung to the serene Mt Batukaru, stretching towards the distant mountains of East Java. Both sunrise and sunset can be enjoyed from here, and watching distant planes take off and land on the airport runway, which juts out to sea a few kilometres away, can be a unique and mesmerising pastime. Each bedroom at The Longhouse showcases a lovingly compiled collection of arts, crafts and motifs from the Indonesian islands of Java, Lombok, Sumatra, Sumba and Bali. Combine all of this with gym facilities, a spa room, a home theatre with a Karaoke machine, and the unobtrusive service of a team of gentle, efficient staff - including a chef who will personally select the freshest seafood from the excellent local fish market to provide you with a Jimbaran-Bay-style feast (food is on guest account) - and you’ll find yourself at the pinnacle of sophisticated elegance and world-class comfort. Ideal for groups of friends or family groups of all ages (the villa will sleep up to 14) The Longhouse, and its captivating setting, is sure to have you promising you’ll soon be back.
A villa conceived as a luxurious Balinese home for its New Zealander owners, East Residence and Spa is thankfully now available for private rental. Nestled amongst Canggu’s rice fields in south-west Bali, this magnificent villa features five spacious ensuite bedrooms, including a Rainforest Cottage, plus infinity-edge pool and open-air Balinese lounge. A stand-out feature is the private spa, positioned away from the main building, where two professionally-trained therapists are on-call and facilities include an open-air stone bath.
The passion poured into this villa is astounding, but it’s the magnificent gardens, tended daily by three gardeners, that are the owner’s greatest pride and joy. Defined by terraced landscaping, the grounds fall naturally into three distinct areas dissected by the diminutive River Subak. Stone steps cut through sloping manicured lawns interspersed with banana plants, exotic blooms and water features. At the bottom, three traditional thatched balés (gazebos) stand, bordered by jungle, on a ledge beside another river; an idyllic setting for yoga and meditation.
The property successfully marries modern and traditional Balinese with western comforts. The owners, along with on-site manager, Raka, personally sourced the high-quality, predominantly Balinese furniture and the imported Italian fixtures. Built in 2008, the villa’s ‘newness’ is evident; from the dedicated TV room to the sparkly ensuite bathrooms with contemporary fittings to the pristine pool-deck area. Yet bedrooms and out-buildings feature traditional high ceilings, and exquisite Indonesian artworks and artefacts (such as antique Sulawesi warrior jackets) abound. Although East Residence and Spa evokes a boutique resort feel, the owner’s underlying ‘home away from home’ vision is foremost.
The welcoming staff team of ten, including on-site manager, Raka, are always on-hand but are the height of discretion. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are prepared by chef Made (Mar-day) from a suggestion menu of Indonesian and international favourites. Grocery provisions for all meals are charged at cost price, although first day breakfast is complimentary. And if you can bear to leave the villa, a seven-seater car plus driver is available for up to eight hours per day, with petrol at extra cost.
