South Hero On Lake Champlain -sleeps 6- Sand Beach, walk to ice cream
This property is located in South Hero, VT — with owned lake frontage and a sandy beach. The village ice cream / burger stand is just a short walk from the cabin. The local roadways are perfect for street or mountain biking with lake views to th …
We had a wonderful time on our vacation here. It was the perfect mix of being able to relax and have lots of things for play. We had a 2 year old and 3 month old during our stay and the amenities suited us well. We loved the hammock, amazing sunsets, having a full kitchen, and of course the paddle boat. Very friendly owners who accommodated the fact that we had young children. We look forward to hopefully coming again soon!
Overall we really loved staying at this cottage. It is not fancy, but was immaculate and very well-stocked (kitchen, cleaning supplies, etc). It was great for the kids to be able to run about outside and what a wonderful, relaxing time to sit in the shade while the kids played. We gave this cabin 4 stars because we couldn't swim while we where there. The lake was really, really low. This, of course, is no fault of the owners. My only problem at all was that the owners did not let us know ahead of time so that we could do some research to find some places to swim since swimming at the house was not reasonable for kids (we did take the rowboat out and swim from that, but toddlers stayed behind). That said, the very, very nice owners came and raked the beach of all the rotting lake weeds which made the beach 100x nicer for us, they offered suggestions for things to do, and were really nice to me when I messed up and took the keys with me! We would definitely go back!
The rustic cabin is all we needed. The lakeside spot is beautiful, with a refreshing breeze and spectacular sunsets. The hammock and boats allow for taking full advantage of the lake. The beach was a bit mucky when we were there, but we still used it for swimming. Most of all, the owners are extremely nice and very attentive. They even replaced an oar that broke, so we could continue to enjoy the lake. Our 7 and 3 year olds enjoyed exploring -- it's a very safe and wholesome place for a family vacation.
This was our second stay at this VT lake home - our first stay was 2008. The home has all you need for a week of fun on the lake. The house has all the neccessities and does the job well. But to be honest with you will want to be sitting on the shore the most of your time there. The waterfront is great with a great dock. Bring your lounge chair out to the end of the dock and you can sit for hours. The owners built a second building next to this home that really adds to your privacy while visiting. We brought our kayaks and took them out every morning... the motor boat traffic did not concern us at all. They have a paddle boat available and the kids had a great time with it.
I recommend this vacation to anyone that enjoys boating, swimming and relaxing!
We enjoyed our week at this cabin. The cabin is clean, and well apointed, and convenient to Burlington. The owners were very responsive when we reported on the second day that the toilet was not working...they came over very quickly and replaced it, on a Sunday. The cabin description indicates that there is a sandy beach and weed free water, but the flood had left it's mark. However, we don't fault the owner for that, the water was still receding when we were there. They were at their adjacent apartment a bit of the time, but they are a nice and friendly family. We would go back to this cabin. Oh, just one thing..the policy is to leave the cabin as clean as you find it..I would prefer to pay a reasonable cleaning fee, it was kind of rushed trying to pack, clean and get out by 10:00.
My kids and I stayed there last week in August. We had a very nice relaxing week. Cottage has everything you need, clean and comfortable. Location is perfect. Close to Burlington and close enough to Montreal for day trip.
We (a family of six) had a great week at the cabin and on the lake. The cabin is clean and the pictures on the website give a very good indication of what is inside and outside of the property.
I agree with others that the cabin is not large, but even with the six of us, there was plenty of space to play games, watch dvds, play horseshoes outside, relax in the hammock, drink coffee in the early morning in the Adirondack chairs and eat meals at the very large picnic table.
We went to McKee's Island Pub and Pizza twice and had a great time. Also, we went to the Blue Paddle for a very nice dinner.
The sunsets are amazing!! We think the cabin is located in one of the best spots on Lake Champlain. We are repeat vacationers and look forward to going back another time.
I have been to this rental many times and enjoyed each visit. It is very private, with a great beach for kids. The dock is impressive, too - ideal for fishing, diving off, watching the sunset or sunbathing. I can't wait to return this summer.
This property is immaculately clean! It is situated at the best part of the lake for boating and swimming. The kids enjoy taking the paddle boat out on their own with no worries of power boats getting too close to them. This part of the lake has very few boats making it very safe for all water activities. My favorite spot is sitting in a beach chair on the huge dock while the kids enjoy the lake. We are repeat customers and are looking forward to returning this summer for our third year in a row!
