Urban, vintage charm in foot-friendly Ballard

Well appointed duplex-bungalow with a fully equipped kitchen offers ease of living at home away from home. A queen-size bed and full-sized sofa-bed sleeps four travelers comfortably on white cotton linens. Full bathroom with plenty of towels. You …

I needed a place to stay in Ballard as my boat was being worked on at a local shipyard. Melissa's place fit the bill -- it was close to the shipyard and had everything we needed for a long term stay. It certainly beats a hotel!
We stayed for a week while we visited our daughter in Seattle. We opted for a rental so we could spend some quality time together and cook. Melissa's place was exactly as advertised. The cookies on arrival were great and gluten free which was perfect since our daughter has a gluten allergy. The location was very convenient for parking our rental car, no problem finding close spots. We also took the bus downtown and the bus stop was just two blocks down. The house is older, reminds me of my childhood home in many ways but it was very well maintained and comfortable. We had no problems during our stay and enjoyed the locations convenience to shopping, restaurants and downtown attractions. The Ballard Farmers Market was a fantastic morning, I would highly recommend. We got some great fresh salmon and vegetables there. We had easy access to the highways but we were far enough away to be in a safe quiet neighborhood. It was a great alternative to a hotel for a week and felt like we were visiting relatives. Melissa has a great place and I would recommend!
My husband and I had an enjoyable stay at Bed, Baked and Beyond this past August. Melissa was very accommodating and the bungalow was very clean and well-appointed. Melissa had fresh-baked cookies and fresh-cut flowers waiting for us upon arrival - a sweet, thoughtful touch. The bungalow is located very close to two nice neighborhoods, Green Lake and Ballard, which both have lots of great restaurants and bars. All in all, it is a great value, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Seattle but still very close to all the attractions.
Four of us stayed here before our daughter's wedding on Bainbridge the following Saturday. With many events and errands in Seattle beforehand, it was the perfect central location and a home away from home. Melissa's treats and helpful manner were a delight. Such a wonderful option as opposed to a hotel. We would stay here again in a New York minute. The backyard swing was fun too. I would definitely also recommend it to friends and family, as the price is great too.
Very charming duplex. Everything was clean, well thought out and many extras were provided. Well-equipped kitchen, comfy bed, nice bathroom. Enjoyed the yummy cookies, ice cream and beverages! The street is busy but the bedroom is in the back so our sleep was not disturbed. We really enjoyed our stay there while visiting our daughter. We would recommend this property!
We stayed for 3 nights in July and had a great time during our first visit to Seattle. The house looked older than the photos and could definitely use some updating, but was clean and cozy with a definite charm to it. The location is great for families--4-5 blocks' walk to shops (incl. a Safeway and the Ballard Market), nearby playgrounds (two of them), and Veraci pizza. The zoo is only about an 8-minute drive. The owner, Melissa, stopped by to meet us. She was great--very helpful and genuinely attentive (e.g. responsive to texts, recommended family-friendly eateries and attractions). We also took notice of the level of attention and personal touches given to the house, such as fresh flowers in every room, drinks and ice cream in the fridge, and a note with the next door neighbour's phone number (whom we met and was very friendly). All in all we had a pleasant stay. If you're looking for an affordable, modest place in a family-friendly location, with a reliable and attentive owner, you'll be very happy with this property.
The photos accurately reflect the appearance of the cozy guesthouse. It was clean and attractive, with plenty of Seattle charm. The swing in the back yard was lovely. There was some street noise when the windows were open, but not much when closed. The owner was very helpful, and made every effort to make my parents' stay a happy one. Delicious lemon cookies were a nice bonus! If you are looking for a charming, comfortable, clean place to rest, for a reasonable price, this is a great option.
Excellent home with a lot of little extras - cookies, local beers, nice soaps and a few other surprises. Nice size bedroom and shower - both very clean. Kitchen has all the things you need to enjoy a meal or two at home - so nice not having to go out all the time. When you do go out, Ballard (very close) has a wide range of restaurants & bars to enjoy. Being right on the bus line, you can avoid parking fees and driving by catching the #28 bus to downtown Seattle - be there in about 25 minutes, perfect! Would certainly come back in a future visit to Seattle.
As I opened the door to my weekend get-a-way I look down to see something very familiar -- a silver key bowl much like the one I grew up with, on a small table by the door. The instant I threw my keys into that bowl, knowing they would never get lost, I felt immediately at home. Upon entering I saw an intriguing mixture of vintage and modern decor that was familiar and pleasant yet not obvious or contrived. I looked to the right in the corner was a perfect little writing desk (ideal for my laptop) and a beautiful retro vintage radio which I immediately turned on. I laughed because there was a Bing Crosby song on the air and at that moment I was transported to this little NorthWest fishing port circa 1945 or 55.... it all felt so real for an instant. This place is truly charming! I walked into the kitchen and felt the time-travel all over again...a gas stove, a little orange hutch over the sink, well appointed with every utensil, fresh water dispensor! Oranges! It's late and I've been on the road, not so hungry; when I open the fridge I see everything I'll need for the morning and ice cold, locally brewed, delicious Pike Place Brewery beer!!! "How much better does this get?" I think to myself as I open the freezer door -- Ben and Jerry's ice cream!!! I have the brilliant idea to make myself a 'beer float' and it is delicious. Now it's official, I'm on vacation. The rest of the apartment was as pleasantly surprising with every convenience provided in not an obvious way -- a closet full of tools, iron, ironing board etc., another full of supplies. The rather large bedroom was done in cool tones of sea blue and onyx. I slept like a baby and woke up revived, the neighborhood is incredibly quiet! The bathroom was tidy and practical with a sitting table looking into the back yard. The old "pre-war" architecture is remarkably well-preserved and I couldn't help to notice the tile is all original along with most of the features in the apartment. I checked the weather on the cable TV and decided to explore the town. When I returned from a romp in old Ballard, I sat in the lovely back yard equipped with a porch swing and furniture. I suddenly wished I had guests! "Next time..." I thought. What a deal for a couple or small group. I noticed the couch folds out and there are ample linens. I wanted to stay for a week and feel what it would be like to live here...the decor, the price, location; over all this bungalow far superseded my expectations.
I loved my time at Bed, Baked and Beyond. The baked goodies and local brew upon arrival was a very nice touch. Great location and quiet, despite being on a busy road. Oh and very clean! Fully stocked kitchen with everything you could possibly need for a delicious home cooked meal. Very sweet place and I will refer anyone from out of town to this adorable place. You won't regret staying here!
