Serene Get-Away in the Heart of the City
This charming 'mother-in-law' studio is the perfect get-away! It is cozy and comfortable, and the Murphy bed makes efficient use of the space. The backyard is so peaceful and serene, it's hard to believe you're merely blocks away from 4-star resta …
This was clean efficient studio apartment, well appointed and maintained. The owner was helpful but not hovering. Perfect spot for a few nights while we visited family close by. Very convenient to shops, restaurants, bars, and groceries. Very close (1 block) to buses for downtown Seattle and Seattle Center (Space Needle). Parking permit was a blessing and no added cleaning few an added bonus!
We'll definitely be going back!
Leah was great. The place is clean roomy and just a good place to stay. The backyard is fantastic. This was a special vacation for us and Leah came out to the backyard and took some pictures for us. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone. The bed is comfy, bathroom roomy and a great shower. You are close enough to walk to a grocery store or we walked down to the pikes market. We stayed for two nights before an Alaskan cruise.
High praise goes to the "Serene Get Away in the Heart of the City" vrbo, which is aptly described. Many thanks to the owner, who has put together a fantastic spot that is perfect for one to two people. This is a basement set up that is well appointed - placement of items are well-considered, exellent storage, all kitchen items are there (even a food processor), and who can resist a murphy bed (very comfortable) and lovely smelling soap in the bathroom (yes, we purchased some of it at the Co-Op nearby)!. Perfect location for taking the bus and doubly great too for being able to have access to a Zipcar and even to a myriad of Car-2-gos. Outdoor space in the backyard was lovely as well (sorry we didn't get to grill). We most definitely will want to stay here again the next time we are in Seattle.
A friend and I recently stayed for 4 days in Seattle at this lovely property in the Capitol Hill area. The Slanted Ivy was an affordable and private alternative to staying in a hotel while visiting the many attractions and great sights in the Pacific Northwest . We especially enjoyed the fabulous backyard and spent many of the late afternoons eating and conversing with friends around the fire pit. Plan to return in the future! Pam from North Carolina
I was so thrilled when I arrived at this beautiful home. The grounds are so well kept and a great spot to sit and relax. The apartment was lovely, spacious and very clean. Anything you could possibly need is within walking distance or a short bus ride. Was the perfect place for me to stay. Leah is an excellant hostess. I only hope I get the opportunity to go back.
We spent a weekend (3 nights) at this property in mid-May, 2013. We found the unit to be very clean, comfortable, and a perfect size for the 2 of us. We love to walk and found it easy to walk into the heart of Seattle from this location (probably 35 minutes into downtown and 50 minutes back to the unit, since it is uphill on the way back). That said, my fiancee and I are in pretty good shape and run daily, so if you're not a big fan of walking then you'll want to take transit from the basement suite to the city center. Our only complaint is that the unit was rather cold, even when we turned on the extra heating... which made it pretty chilly in the evening. Other than that though, the unit was perfect and we would definitely stay here again!
The property being rented is located in a quiet neighbourhood. The public transportation is within several minutes walk and the service is regular. The bus drive to downtown Seattle takes about 10 minutes.
The appartment is equipped with a small kitchen, bathroom, Murphy bed.. The owner was very kind and there were two types of unground coffee, and three different types of tea at the disposal. And mind you, these were the expensive types from the most popular tea shop in Seattle. A very nice gesture indeed!
Altogether, I sincerely recommend the property to future renters!
Leah was a very nice hostess! She had delicious tea and coffee (both local) available along with an array of brochures and articles that detail various places to visit while in Seattle. The only advice I would have for future guests are to bring a couple of extra pillows for added comfort. The place was clean and very convenient to Capitol Hill shopping places, grocery stores (QFC, Safeway, and Trader Joe's), and bus stops to traverse Seattle. We truly appreciated Leah's kindness! For the money, this place is the bang for your buck!
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Slanted Ivy Vacation Rental. Leah was a great host. This perfect little "Mother-in-law" one-room apartment was clean, comfortable and perfectly located within walking distance to wonderful shopping, dining and studying hangouts. Remedy Teas is a must visit. Also, the Wandering Goose (breakfast), Oddfellows and Jamjaree are great dining establishments. This property is also centrally located to University of Washington (access through bus #43 - 15 minutes) and downtown (15-20 minutes, also bus #43). My stay was longer than most (3 weeks) and I loved studying in the backyard garden! I was able to walk to Volunteer Park (30 minute walk) and visit St. Mark's cathedral (also, 30 minute walk) to hear Compline (an also must-hear). It was the perfect home-away-from-home! This VRBO is on my list to visit again! Would recommend for single visitors, longer-stays, and those without vehicles who want to see the sights of Seattle.
Perfect location and easy access to all areas of Seattle either on foot, bus, light rail etc. The property owner was very nice and helpful and open to accommodating our needs.
The property was very clean and cute, a bump up from a hotel room because of the kitchenette and the price was right!
The little garden was adorable and would have been a big plus had we been visiting another time of year. It had a fire pit, out door seating and a bbq grill.
This home is all about location. You really are walking distance from so much that the Capitol Hill has to offer. The home is very clean, has all the amenities you need and the back courtyard area makes it hard to leave. Leah was great to work with and we would definitely consider staying here again.
This place is highly recommended. Several bus lines near to the rental. The owner is very pleasant and very accomodating. If I go back to Seattle, I will seek out Leah's rental!
Comfortable. Small. Clean. Everything you need for a place to hang your hat while seeing the sights in Seattle.

Vashon Island Loft Waterfront
See All Seattle Vacation Rentals »
An 860 sf 2-story, private mother-in-law structure on south-facing waterfront property on Maury (Vashon) Island with spectacular Mount Rainier views, beach-access, and located close to Pt.Robinson lighthouse. Beautiful interiors, a wood stove to curl up next to, a kitchenette. Cozy, rural, quiet and comfortable!
The bathroom, eating space, and wood stove are on the main floor and the sleeping area is upstairs in the loft. There is a queen bed and a smaller daybed (28" wide) that would work for a child or small adult. You can bring your own blow up mattress to put on the main floor if more sleeping space is desired ($20/person, including children, additional per night after two people). There are stairs to the south facing, Mt. Rainier view beach. Orcas sometimes visit, seals and otter pass by, and there are eagles perched in the trees most the time. The property is fairly remote, quiet and private, and the south-facing beach is lovely.
The kitchenette consists of toaster oven, microwave, hot plate, crock pot and small refrigerator.
Melita Creek Restaurant at the Vashon Island Golf & Country Club is 6 minutes away. Thai, Chinese, Mexican, French & American restaurants in the town of Vashon, 15 minutes away.
Firewood is provided (there is electric heat as well).
Laundry service available at $10/load. There is currently no laundromat on the island.
Pets are $20/night additional. They must be leased at all times in the yard for the safety of the ducks, chickens, cat, etc. They can be off-leash at the beach. Dogs must never be left unattended in the loft.
There is a barbecue outside should the weather permit, and a hammock and a fire pit at the beach.
We will be here to greet you or have the code available for you if we aren't. We have a friendly dog and no, he doesn't bark at night. Free range chickens and ducks peck around in the garden and our fluffy, lazy cat lies about the yard surveying his territory.
Other than our house, about 40 feet away, there are no visible neighbors. We have horses that pasture next door.
GETTING AROUND: Vashon is a great place to explore on your bike. The nearest bus is about 3 miles away. The 119 Metro Bus (to Dockton) serves that stop. If you need a ride to/from the bus, let us know in advance and we will likely be able to pick you up there. The island is accessible from west Seattle, Tacoma (Pt. Diefiance), and Southworth ferry terminals.
THINGS TO DO/SEE: Visit the Vashon Chamber of Commerce website for a listing of things to do on the island. There are art , garden, solar, farm tours, Strawberry Festival, wineries, a distillery, bike trails, equestrian events, fishing, hiking trails, beach combing, picturesque Point Robinson Lighthouse tours, Island Center Forest or Dockton Park Trails for mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking or jogging. Kyaks can be rented at Burton Beach, and the water there and at Dockton Park gets warm and is very swimmable in the summer. Horses can be boarded nearby, riding lessons or trail rides can be arranged. Riding on the beach is wonderful. If you have your own kyaks that are light weight and easily carried, they can be launched at the beach, although it is quite a distance down to the shoreline.
Art Lessons (painting, photography, drawing, ceramics), trail rides, massage, facials and day spa services can be arranged.
*Bring a pair of cozy slippers so you can leave your shoes just inside the door.
*There is a small duck pond in the yard and a very large one next door. CHILDREN MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY PARENTS AT ALL TIMES when they are outside, especially those that don't yet swim.
*Septic system is fragile and VERY difficult to repair, so please don't flush anything that isn't designed to go in the septic tank. No plastic, paper, hair, tampons, pads, diapers, etc. PLEASE. (Damage deposit will be charged in the event a repair is required as a result of something in it that shouldn't be.)
*Pets with $20/day additional charge. The upstairs floors are unfinished plank so they are not good with pet accidents... Dogs can be free at the beach, but need to be leashed for the sake of the ducks, cat, etc. in the yard. Dogs may not be left unattended in the Loft unless crated.
* Our house is 40 feet away, so someone is around most of the time. We are happy to do whatever we can to make your stay comfortable and memorable.
* Check to see if there is a burn ban ((website: hidden)) prior to lighting the stove. If there is no wind for a few days, a burn ban is sometimes in effect. The fine is $1,000 for violating Puget Sound's Air Quality authority! Yikes!
