Garden Studio, Spacious and Unique, Great Location
Beautiful, two-level studio apartment in a 1910 Victorian cottage, with brand-new fully-equipped kitchen, and private garden patio. Located on a quiet street, just two blocks from Cortland Ave. — the thriving heart of the Bernal Heights neighborh …
As lovely as this place looks in the photo, one picture can't begin to convey the lengths Anne and Chris go to to make this place instantly feel like home; Very clean and comfortable and private, original art on the walls, a spectacular view of the hills (Twin Peaks) from huge kitchen windows, and a Zen-like garden to meditate in. Parking in this neighborhood can be tricky if arriving after 5pm but once parked you really don't need a car. Keep in mind, this IS San Fran, the hills are steep, so be prepared to get your exercise. Courtland and Mission streets are up and down the hill respectively and provide everything one needs, with variety. Bernal Heights is a quiet residential area, far from the maddening tourist crowd, but access to must-see sights is a snap. It's so easy to take the very near-by J train which makes stops along the way to the Embarcadero. Also a short walk from the place is the bus.
This apartment deserves a BIG 5! It is comfortable, beautifully decorated with a sense of artistic splendor, and opens onto a garden that is somewhat magical it the midst of the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. We appreciated the thoughtful of items provided in the kitchen, bathroom and on the bookcases. And the bathroom tiled floor is heated! Everything was impeccable. Anne and Chris were available to answer questions and provide advice and assistance. Public transportation, grocery stores, and restaurants are within walking distance, and we found parking on the street for our car. We are recommending this lovely property to friends and hope to return. Staying here helped us appreciate the uniqueness of this fascinating city.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay of 9 nights. The accommodations were clean, charming, and thoughtful: very comfortable queen size bed with four pillows and nightstands with reading lights on both sides; small his and hers drawers (shown in photos); other places to stash personal stuff; small closet area with hangers; iron and ironing board; well-appointed and very clean bathroom with plenty of towels, tissue, soaps, blow drier, and space for personal stuff; great shower head and water pressure; incredible heated tile floor! The kitchen was well-stocked with dishes, giant coffee/tea mugs, glasses, etc, including some condiments, coffee maker filters, paper towels. The spacious two-seater sofa was perfect for resting after our long days of SF touring. The owners, Anne and Chris, are very friendly, easy-going, and follow your lead -- available if you need them. To enter the studio, you go down a handful of narrow concrete stairs to the side of the front garden (looks like you're going to a basement area and you kind of are but wait!), through a locked door, down a hall, and then unlock the door to this wonderful naturally lighted studio -- since the house is on a steep hill, the studio has tall windows all across the kitchen area that look out onto the back garden. It's awesome! Oh, and the MUNI buses and MUNI J train are two very short blocks away. Very easy commuting to anywhere you want to go. We had no car and we had no problems! As mentioned, the house is at the top of a steep hill, so when you walk somewhere, the walk "home" will be uphill. Of course, that's San Francisco! We loved our adventure.
We had a great stay here. The studio was actually really big and easily accommodated 2 people. The interior was super nice and very comfy. We were there for a couple of nights so the owners didn't bug us (they were available as needed and left their contact information with us).
One minus to the property was that parking could be hard to find on the street when you come home late on a weeknight (when everyone's home and in bed already). There was one night where we had to park on another street since there wasn't any parking on the main street where the house was. There are a lot of street parking though.
The house is located on a nice hill away from the main street (Mission). Downtown SF and AT&T Park isn't hard to get to in your own private vehicle.
Fantastic place and great location! Studio was stylish and comfy - perfect for a couples getaway. Owners were incredibly accommodating, and even recommended some great local restaurants that we LOVED! We will absolutely be back again. We were wonderfully taken care of.
This was our second stay and we are very happy with this comfortable well maintained apartment . We will certainly stay there again.
We were so impressed with the comfort and convenience of this great little escape, that we prefer to keep it a secret for our future getaways. For that reason,I hesitated to review because I have no choice but to give our hosts another 5 star rating...thus making 'our secret place' more popular in the future and difficult to reserve.tsk, tsk
The artistic touches matched our taste so perfectly that we felt at home immediately. It was well designed with an eye to artistry and craftsmanship plus comfort and convenience. We never met our hosts because we never needed anything that wasn't already provided, and they totally respected our privacy. So, to Anne and Chris we say BRAVO!!!
P.S. We never had the chance to ask if you liked red wine which we had planned to give you, but then left without ever meeting you...oops next time then...
This Bernal Heights studio is lovely; the owners are welcoming and helpful and the space is perfectly equipped for 2 people to stay for an extended visit. Clean, with accurate photos and description as well as amenities such as pretty garden good kitchen equipment, wifi and laundry as well as AV equipment, Decent restaurants, food shopping and park nearby. Highly recommend - will return!
We had a wonderful experience at this garden studio in Bernal Heights. It was very clean, well-maintained, and beautifully decorated. The photos don't totally reflect how nice it actually is! The bed was very comfortable and it even had heated bathroom floors! It was cold and rainy so we didn't use the garden but it was really unique and we look forward to staying there again when we can enjoy our morning coffee in that garden. We had contact with Chris via email during the renting process and that all went very smooth. We met Anne and she was a lovely person and was available to us if we needed anything. Bernal Heights is a darling area and we enjoyed walking (with umbrellas!) along the downtown area which we could easily access from the rental. Parking was a little difficult when we were there due to work being done all down the street so it was blocked off to daytime parking (unless we wanted to get up early to move to another street for them to work during the day which we didn't want to do) but we did find parking on a few streets over and it was safe to park there. We don't think parking would be a problem at all if there wasn't work being done so we would not hesitate to stay there again, and actually it really wasn't a problem except for when we were leaving and needed to load things in the car. Anne was apologetic for the street "mess and inconvenience" which was so sweet of her but it was really ok with us. There is a park up from the house but we didn't spend time there because of the rain but look forward to enjoying that we we stay there again! Thanks Anne & Chris - we loved your place!!!
Very comfortable studio with upgraded finishes and much attention to detail, like art on the walls and interesting accessories. Lots of light from high windows looking west over a pretty garden. Well-equipped kitchen. A short walk to Cortland Street with restaurants and shops.
A wonderful place to call "home" during our stay. Beautifully furnished and full of natural light from the large windows looking into the lovely private garden. The heated bathroom floor was just a delight in the morning. A nice stroll to shops and restaurants on Cortland, and an easy walk to public transit. A safe and quiet street. We hope to book again for a much longer visit!
Chris and Anne were so accommodating! We felt at home in this cozy and beautifully decorated hide-away. Walking distance to our one day visit to Mission and an evening in Bernal Heights shopping. The garden was perfect for the evening lights and morning coffee. We can't wait to visit again!
