Fabulous, Spacious, Gourmet Kitchen, Right Under Coit Tower!
This spacious (nearly 1000 sf) apartment features a newly remodeled, well-equipped, gourmet kitchen. There is a cozy fireplace for chilly evenings. Lots of interesting books and art pieces to enjoy. Plenty of closet space. There is a private de …
Our stay here was very enjoyable. This is a very central location for many points of interest in the city. The views from the apartment's roof deck are terrific day and night, with a wonderful 360 degree panorama of the city skyline.
We learned that the hop-on, hop off bus tour stops at Washington Square Park, which is a three minute walk downhill from the apartment. A short walk in the opposite direction takes you to up to Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill, with lovely panoramic views of the city and bay. We walked to Lombard Street, Russian Hill and Fisherman's Wharf on different occasions - great physical workouts on the city's amazingly steep up and down streets.
The apartment is clean, quiet and well equipped. Free off street parking is a big plus. The owner is pleasant to work with and we would not hesitate to return here on another visit.
Clean and comfortable with well stocked kitchen....the roof deck patio offers marvelous views of the city....owners make an effort to enhance your San Francisco visit
You get a lot for what you pay for. Parking space. Great view. Rooftop deck is awesome. Great location. VERY reasonably priced. If you are used to deluxe accommodations then this rental is not for you. I felt like I was staying at my grandmothers house that hadn't been updated in years. The linens looked very old, the pillows were very very soft (I used my airline neck pillow for support), mismatching rough towels, a deck but only one chair, lots of noise from the street early in the morning (bedroom window faces street) but nighttime is quiet (we are early risers so we didn't care). These are NOT complaints just info given so that you know what you are getting. The place was very clean & accommodating, just old feeling. If you are a tv watcher, then you will not enjoy this place. The tv was very small and positioned on a low table on the opposite side of the room. Our tv was people watching at the park down the road! The downstairs neighbors were very nice. We very much enjoyed our stay & would recommend this place to friends. The owner was very helpful & responded to emails In a timely fashion. We would definently stay here again. Just do not expect luxury and you will love it.
My wife and I stayed at the property for 8 wonderful nights in May and found the unit to be exactly as advertised. The roof top deck and additional deck associated with the unit were really nice additions that are not typical of other S.F rentals. We found Elizabeth to be very easy to work with, very helpful with local information and the rental process is as easy as it gets. We would strongly recommend this rental to those who are looking for a rental in the center of it all. Thanks again Elizabeth and looking forward to our next visit.
This is a very comfortable, spacious and fully equipped apt. in a quiet, safe neighborhood; it made a great homebase for visiting San Francisco. We enjoyed it so much more than staying in a hotel as we've done on previous visits to the city and it was less expensive. All the furniture and the bed are comfortable. The galley kitchen has everything you need to cook full meals. The view from the rooftop deck is incredible both in the daytime and after dark. With binoculars, we could see the cars coming down the crookedest st. There is a windscreen, table/chairs and lounge chairs up there so you can relax and enjoy the view. We also liked the leafy deck off the apt. and cooked out there one night. It's so convenient to have a (free) washer and dryer downstairs. You are halfway up the block to the Filbert Steps and we enjoyed taking up them to Coit Tower.
You can easily walk all thru North Beach and Chinatown from this location or down to the waterfront. If you're a serious walker, you could get most anywhere in the city on foot. There are also bus stops nearby. You don't need a car but we rented one at the airport so we could drive up the coast, etc. So nice to have a free parking space. There are many wonderful restaurants and bakeries nearby, we used Trip Advisor, Yelp and the owner's recommendations to decide which ones to visit. There are small neighborhood stores very nearby; we liked S+S because it was just a block or two away, had fairly reasonable prices and most of what you need including wine. We bought very high quality produce in Chinatown and it was a great value. You can also walk further (or drive) to Trader Joe's and Safeway.
Be aware that Filbert St. is extremely steep, as are many of the area streets. Sometimes what appeared to be a short walk turned out to be quite strenuous because it was up and down very steep hills.
We enjoyed our stay in North Beach in this spacious and clean apartment. We really liked having the full kitchen at our disposal and a small parking space for our rental car. It was great being in the North Beach area and was very easy to walk around to shopping and restaurants and up to the Coit Tower. If you're feeling up to a challenge, it's also very close to the Filbert Steps (all 400 of them!) which will take you down to the Embarcadero. We liked the rooftop patio and the view from the dining room window.
Our only criticism is that the apartment is in need of an upgrade. Most of the appliances and furniture (besides the fridge and stove) are in bad need of updating, and makes the apartment feel very old. The lack of sound insulation was also a problem. Since the windows in the bedroom don't close properly you can hear absolutely everything going on outside, including conversation. You can also hear right through the ceiling to hear people talking (and snoring).
That being said, we had a wonderful stay in San Francisco and it was a great getaway!
We stayed in Elizabeth's apartment for one week during a delightfully warm and sunny spell in San Francisco. The apartment, located midway up a steep hill, is bright and spacious. The kitchen is well stocked and there are numerous shops and stands in North Beach and Chinatown nearby to satisfy every culinary taste. The roof deck is a must--there are views of the financial district, North Beach and Nob Hill neighborhoods and the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance.
Elizabeth was very helpful in answering questions and resolving some minor concerns.
I would highly recommend this apartment to a couple who want to be situated in the North Beach area for a San Francisco visit.
We had a fabulous time staying in your apartment. It was perfect for our stay which was a mixture of business and pleasure. We shopped at Trader Joe's and cooked several meals in your well equipped kitchen! Other nights we walked down the hill and enjoyed several of the little restaurants nearby. We also spent several evenings sipping wine on the rooftop.
We did rent a small car so we could spend a day in Napa Valley, a day in Monterey and Pebble Beach, and another day driving the 49 mile scenic tour around the city. I was able to squeeze the car into the little parking space in the front.
Thanks for a great stay. We will definitely consider this apartment on our next trip to San Francisco.
Our stay under Coit Tower was exceptional. Easy to find, easy to get in/out of, great kitchen and AWESOME roof deck. Had everything we needed and expected. We felt very safe coming home late at night. Nice neighborhood. Could eat our way through North Beach!! Small market one block away with excellent wine, excellent pizza place just down the street was open late, thank goodness!! Walked 1 block to catch cabs, but mostly just walked to our destinations ini the city each day. The children at the school next door brought nothing but smiles to our faces. The owner was kind and very easy to work with, no problems at all.
Only items on our wish list would be a flat screen tv in the bedroom for the Sunday Hangover/Stay in bed day, and maybe thicker padding/carpeting for the visitors upstairs. BUT this was nothing that would not prevent us from staying again. Earplugs are a girls best friend when staying in the City :-)
Great, very central location near the top of Telegraph Hill (a steep climb!). Close to most main attractions, public transportation, as well as good restaurants and shops. Quiet, safe street and comfy bed; however, thin windows and squeaking floors above meant we were woken up a few times. Spacious, nicely decorated apartment with everything we needed and then some! Balcony and shared rooftop terrace were bonuses. Kind and available hosts, sometimes a bit slow replying by email. All in all a very nice stay.
We really enjoyed our stay on Filbert in Telegraph Hill. The accommodations were comfortable and clean.
The views from the rooftop deck were amazing! There is about a half block walk to the apartment that is very steep but this is San Francisco, so be prepared to walk up some hills. The location is fantastic, close to a lot of different kinds of restaurants and attractions. We really enjoyed eating at Capps Corner (Italian), Joe's Original (Italian), and Tony's for delicious pizza. These restaurants were all within walking distance...5 to 10 minutes. If you like fish and chips, try Codmothers,($9.75) or Sally's Fishwich for the fishwich which is huge, delicious, and only $8. These places are near or part of Fisherman's Wharf, which is about a 15 minute walk from the apartment. We didn't get a chance to eat at Mama's, which is one and a half blocks away and it has great reviews. There is a line-up starting shortly after 8am when it opens and you will see a line-up there for most of the day. It closes at 3pm. We didn't have a car, so we bought a 7 day Muni pass for $26 each and used the Muni public transportation system which included unlimited cable car rides. We took a tour and spent a day in the Muir Woods(giant Redwoods) and we also toured three wineries in Napa and Sonoma. Well worth it! All in all, it was a memorable trip and we would recommend staying at 460 Filbert. Thank you Elizabeth for your help!
Stayed for 6 nights in this fantastic apartment and can’t fault it. The web description and photos are absolutely spot on – it’s spacious, comfortable, clean, well equipped, fantastic location and a real home from home feel with plenty of books and artwork that sets it apart from many vacation rentals. Right under Coit Tower, you can get to all the downtown sights from here, either on foot or on the Muni, eating places abound, or if you want to cook something it’s only a few blocks from Safeway and Trader Joe’s for supplies.
Elizabeth the owner is extremely helpful – I had a problem paying through the VRBO website with my British credit card, but we spoke on the phone and she sorted everything out. Met her briefly during our stay, as well as the guys from the apartment downstairs – all very friendly people.
Saw woodpeckers and hummingbirds ( hummingbirds always a treat for us Europeans ! ) from the private balcony overlooking the back yard, and there are fantastic views from the roof terrace. Would make a great spot for a glass of wine on a warm evening but being San Francisco in late August we had the spectacle of the fog rolling in instead, so staved off the chilliness with mugs of hot tea and the most wonderful cakes from the Victoria Pastry shop just a couple of blocks down the street. Mmmmmm ! The legendary Mama’s is also just down the street, but can breakfast really be worth standing in line for 45 minutes? We decided not, and found Pat’s Cafe on Taylor just off Columbus – best pancakes of our whole trip !
We rented a car for our last 2 days and the parking space was much appreciated – we had a Chevvy Malibu and it was a bit tight but perfectly possible with a bit of practice ( and a competent husband! )
Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this apartment, and would certainly consider using it again if ever we’re lucky enough to be back in the city.
