    Elegant Victorian Apartment in SF

    San Francisco

    Description

    <span>PROPERTY DESCRIPTION</span>
<p><span>"Wonderfully unique" — just two words that only touch on the elegance and wonder that this unit invokes. Designed by the world-renown architect James Francis Dunn in 1890, the building itself is a main focal point of both tourists and residents alike. Only 1 block from Alamo Square Park and the famous "Painted Ladies" housing row, this apartment is in the heart of downtown San Francisco. However inside is where your stay in San Francisco truly becomes exceptional. This 7-room unit features elegant rooms, high ceilings with wood beams spanning across the living room, hardwood floors throughout, and wool area rugs. A wonderful mix of both modern and antique furnishings adds the perfect touch to this unit's design, as do the stained glass windows found throughout the apartment. Both bedrooms are set very far apart ensuring privacy within your party. The kitchen is complete with beautiful wood cabinets and is sunny and spacious. There is a large family style kitchen table along with a dining table for those quiet dinners at home, or you can enjoy the evening on the quaint garden patio. The unit also offers a backyard with two ancient Sequoia redwood trees. Your stay at this beautiful unit will not be forgotten!</span></p>
<p><span>It has been said of this building that it is "one of three of the most significant architectural dwellings in San Francisco". "If San Francisco is the Rome of the colorist Movement, Alamo Square is the Vatican. The Square is the heart of the greatest collection of Painted Ladies and one of the most important collections of Victorian buildings in the world. Although it doesn't have a Saint Peter's, it does have an Archbishop Mansion."</span></p>
<p><span>This Mansion is located a block away from the "Belle" facing Alamo Square park and just up 1/2 a block are the famous "Seven Sisters" seen in every collection of photos depicting San Francisco. 1347-45 McAllister Street was designed by James Francis Dunn, started in early 1898 and completed at the end of 1900. It was built in the French neo-Baroque style as a tribute to the owner's great love, an opera diva from Paris. He had 2 "Juliet"(as in Shakespeare's Juliet) balconies constructed that are similar to the Paris Opera House boxes even today. The front of the building has 4 winged mermaids and Grecian urns of mythological significance surrounding the 2 huge oval windows at the very top of the building, behind which is a grand ballroom with a panoramic view of downtown San Francisco all the way to Mt. Diablo across the Bay Bridge, as well as weary gods holding up the eves, and finally museum worthy stained glass sea shell windows with gems spilling out over the balconies.</span></p>
<p><span>The entry way is a huge tortoise shell with a ruby heart above it said to be "like the piece that frames m'lady-in-waiting at the French court". The building is a feature on the Double Decker bus tourists route, as well as walking tours of S.F., and is to be found in coffee table books on San Francisco architecture, magazines, and newspaper articles. The "Belle" survived the great 1906 quake as it is built on bed rock. Look up James Francis Dunn for more photos and other unique buildings he erected in San Francisco during his career.</span></p>

Our stay here was excellent! The apartment is great and was very clean. The location is fantastic, just a short walk from cafes and restaurants on Divisadero St., and Hayes St., and it is right by Alamo Square Park. And the 5-bus, which can take you as far west as the ocean and as far east as downtown, runs right in front of the building. I would definitely stay here again.
POSITIVE FEEDBACK We really enjoyed our stay in SF this july 2012, part of this being the high quality of the apartment: style, extremely good position (bus station only meters away), very well furnished in a classical SF building. We slept well and sometimes took the breakfast on the terrace. All modern comodities were available. The neibourhood is calm and with specific SF architecture. I would reccomend it to anybody (if arriving to the third floor is not a problem).

      Noe Place Like Home
Noe Place Like Home is a beautifully appointed, fully furnished apartment with private separate entrance and shared access to a pretty garden.

Noe Place Like Home is quiet and relaxing, yet only steps away from the bustling 24th Street shopping district of Noe Valley, our pleasant residential neighborhood; we like the area quite a lot and hope you will too!

We've provided everything you need for a comfortable stay: chic and comfortable furniture, complete kitchen, washer/dryer, TV and media center, free WiFi, and much more!

Enter through a hallway lined with closet space, into a well-appointed garden-view living area with cable TV and media center. We provide a small DVD library and a large book library, including area travel guides and maps. In the living area, the comfortable couch folds out to an equally comfortable queen sofa bed.

The open space plan means that from the living area, you can move on easily to the full kitchen with new appliances; to the bedroom, with garden-view windows, a queen bed, and plenty of closet space; or to the separate bath with shower/tub, sink, and toilet.

One note about the bedroom: The one aspect of the unit that's a little odd is that there is no door between the bedroom and the living area; we provide a folding screen for additional privacy. I point this out just to make sure that guests are aware of it, because we would not want any guest to be surprised upon arrival.

We've had happy guests in groups of all sizes and types, including solo travelers, couples, and families of four; we hope to make you our satisfied customers.

We are convenient to the 24 Divisadero and 48 Quintara bus lines (each stops within 2 blocks of us), and the J Church Muni streetcar (about 5 blocks away), as well as BART (the subway, which stops at 24th & Mission, about a 15-minute walk or 5 minutes by bus). Our address rates a walkability score of 94 on a scale of 100!

About parking: The unit doesn't have an assigned parking space; there is a driveway available for loading/unloading. San Francisco is, in general, not an easy-parking city. However, by SF standards, our neighborhood is considered to be a relatively easy neighborhood for parking, which means that guests can typically find a space within a block or two of our unit. (By comparison, parking in some neighborhoods, such as North Beach, is so tough that even we residents take cabs there.)

Another option: if you do need a car while you're here, you can rent our Miata convertible! It's listed on RelayRides, and we'll give you a discount.
