Castro Arts & Crafts Apartment - Short Walk to Castro Theater
The apartment is located on 19th Street at Noe Street. It's one flight of stairs up on the first level of an Arts & Crafts home built in 1915, and has a private entrance. The top two floors are occupied by your hosts who can help with visitor info …
We knew we wanted to stay in a beautiful SF neighborhood, not a hotel and this was just ideal (once we navigated by foot up to the property and realized there was a mucho easier way to get there). Cozy and charming and everything we needed...especially the little corner market with super helpful Dwayne just steps away. Ira was so easy to work with and extremely responsive whenever we contacted him prior to and after our stay. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat!
We stayed in San Francisco for two days, and loved this apartment. The listing was accurate, and it was a little more spacious than I guessed from the pictures. It was perfect for a couple. Ira was helpful and gave us our privacy. I'd definitely recommend the fun neighborhood, too!!
What an awesome apartment! We visit San Francisco every summer and this was our first stay with Ira. The apartment is very cozy, comfortable, and immaculate. The apartment is exactly as shown in photos. Very close to Castro and Dolores Park however very quiet in the neighborhood. Close to shopping, Walgreens, and grocers. Easy to get to without the steep hills found in surrounding neighborhoods. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back again!! Thanks for everything!
When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner who explained us all the rules (it is not his picture on the VRBO website though). The apartment was very smelly, musty (we expected a certain level of smell in a 100 years old home) so we had to open all the windows, but unfortunately that smell did not go away. In addition in the afternoons there was an unbearable smell (maybe cat spraying or sewer smell). This unit is extremely cold, you never see a sun coming through the windows. It is usually cold this time of the year (as we heard from the owner) and the place has no heating. Actually there are two tiny space heaters, one of them not working though. We were freezing there and had to buy blankets, warm pyjamas...and next day...cold fx. One other thing... I stayed in many vrbo apartments over the years... and when they are called apartments... we assume that there would be a kitchenette. We eat healthy so we always like to buy local produce and cook our meals. Unfortunately this home had a tiny fridge and a microwave... no different from a typical hotel room... but what is worse, the only sink to wash your vegetables etc is in the nicely updated bathroom with a slightly old/moldy bathtub. That totally made our stay uncomfortable. We could not wait to leave this place and never come back.
Location is nice, central, easy access to public transit.
We had a wonderful stay here. The apartment was exactly as described and the photos were entirely accurate. It is newly renovated, so everything is new and clean and functional. So tastefully and comfortably furnished. Living room is full of light and bedroom is quiet, with comfortable bed..nice quality sheets, comforter and towels, too. And such nice artwork on walls. Ira was so helpful. We had total privacy, but knew we could contact him if we had any questions.
Location was great. Quiet, lovely street just 2 blocks away from lively Castro St. We really enjoyed Castro Theatre. Just a few blocks from Delores Park and the Mission, and close to public transportation.
We recommend this apartment highly and would love to stay there again on our next visit.
Clean, quiet, good location, helpful owner, but the apartment was too cold. Also, we both got really bad back pain from the bed.
Otherwise - perfect!
My wife and I made a last minute decision to come to San Francisco in December 2012. I was hoping to get a nice apartment and we really did well in selecting this great little gem. First thing is that the host Ira was such a warm and friendly person. His communication during the booking process was fantastic and his help while we were at the apartment was just brilliant. The apartment is in a great area, with just a short walk to Castro Street, and not far to Market Street. It was very neat and tidy and extremely clean. Ira even made sure there was fresh coffee ready for us. All in all, we had a good time in SF and the experience was made more enjoyable having a great convenient apartment to stay in. Thanks again Ira, for helping us have a great time in Castro.
I cannot say enough nice words about our stay in Castro and this home. We took a taxi from the airport. I recognized the house from the pictures so it wasn't hard to find at all.
I will start with the house since I am reviewing it.. It is wonderful! There was plenty of room for both my husband and I. There wasn't a speck of dust to be found anywhere in this place! Everything we might have needed was provided for us. There were even magazines and brochures for San Francisco. The house is in a quiet neighborhood. There wasn't a lot of noise at all. We rarely heard our hosts moving upstairs.
The house is in a perfect location. There is a little store on the corner that we visited at least once every day to buy drinks or snacks. They have everything there. There is a Walgreens right down the street. There were so many restaurants around too. We at breakfast at The Fork Cafe twice and Orphan Andy's once. We ate dinner at the Sausage Factory one night. We had pizza at Escape From New York. I LOVED the pet store, and we bought toys for our puppy there. There are several options for public transportation nearby. We bought the 7 day CityPass for $27 and got our money's worth from it!
I would definitely rent this place again. I would highly recommend renting this place to other people because of the location and how clean and nice it is. Ira was great with his communication. He answered my many questions with patience. Thank you!
I thoroughly enjoyed my third stay in this apartment. Well located and comfortable. If I have one suggestion it would be to add an easy chair with a reading light. That's a minor criticism, however, for a completely comfortable unit.
We were looking for something near to the Castro and that is exactly what we got. The apartment was clean, tidy and the studio apartment had everything we needed, a tv, coffee maker, a dorm-fridge, two wine glasses, utensils. Ira had even put some ground coffee in the fridge so we could make coffee! The bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean.
We had been living out of our suitcases in and out of hotels, so we were very happy to come to an apartment where we could at least eat a normal breakfast for 5 days.
The apartment is located about a mile away from MUNI, the underground train system and the Cable Cars, which both take you downtown to the Ferry Building and everywhere you need to go. The area is quiet despite the lively parties in the Castro, the only thing we could hear was some cars driving by at night, but that was only because we had the window open.
There is a local kiosk at the corner of Noe and 19th, so we needed anything to eat we could go there. Otherwise there are lots of restaurants and cafés on the Castro street. We even found a couple of Chinese laundry mats, which did our laundry and folded them for us for a very good price!
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Ira's. We can recommend the apartment.
We had a very relaxing stay at this vrbo in the Castro district of San Francisco. The bedroom is set back away from the street and was very quiet. My husband and I slept so well on the oh so comfortable king bed. Very tastefully furnished and decorated. Hubby loved the large desk to spread out all his files and catch-up work on! Loved the location as we were able to walk everywhere. Highly recommend to others visiting San Francisco!
