Ashbury Garden Studio - Haight, Cole Valley, Ashbury Heights!!
The studio is 2 blocks from Haight Street, 3 blocks from Cole Valley and a 15 minute walk to Golden Gate Park. City destinations and the ocean/beach at the eastern part of the City are all easily reached by public transportation located 50 yards …
My husband and I stayed at the Ashbury Garden Studio for a week. We selected the apartment because of the close proximity to our son's apartment. The location was perfect! Ellen responded quickly to our inquiries and the whole transaction went very smoothly. When we arrived, Ellen met us at the door and gave us the "Lay of the Land". The description of the Studio was quite accurate. Everything we needed was there and we felt right at home. It's well-appointed and very clean. We especially loved the backyard garden and watching the hummingbird in her nest. Its a quiet neighborhood with a nice little market at the corner and Cole Valley a five minute walk away. Because we didn't have a car the easy access to Public Transportation was terrific. We definitely look forward to staying again!
This studio has everything. It is in a wonderful, quiet neighborhood only 2 blocks from the streets of Haight and Ashbury and 3 blocks from a gem of a small neighborhood, Cole Valley. Groceries and excellent restaurants are nearby, and so is the lovely Buena Vista Park. A great neighborhood for walking. We found the kitchen very well equipped, and Ellen responded immediately to our one request for a lightbulb. The apartment was spotless and there is a beautiful small garden in the back which is a special extra. We couldn't have been happier with this rental and will definitely plan to return.
A real extra was the location in relationship to two bus lines and the MUNI. We didn't have a car, but access to anywhere we wanted to go was only half a block to 3 blocks away.
You will love this place.
We looked at VRBO for about a month till we finally decided to contact a few places. The Garden Studio looked like a good choice. I communicated with Ellen by e-mail and also by phone once, it went real smoothly(she even replied to me from out of town). The easy communication helped us in our decision and we picked the studio. Payment was also very simple.
It is as described, in the heart of the city on a street with a bus line by suprisingly quiet since the studio is in the back and faces the lovely garden. We were welcomed with some treats and a bottle of mineral water, which was appreciated after our flight. The studio was spotless and very well maintained.
It was our quiet spot after our days of roaming San Francisco which was easy from the studio. There are 2 bus lines barely a few minutes away(No 6 and 33) and a Muni tramway is just down the hill at Cole and Carl( that gets you to the Beach or Downtown).
Ellen also provided information about the neoighborhood for us.. We tried a few restos on Cole where we hung out a bit to be real nice. We ate at Zazie and Reverie Cafe(both have terraces in the back).
Overall it was a great stay in San Francisco, but a bit chilly at times, but Ellen has no control over that, its the Fog( hahaha)..
After having two other potential rentals fall through for our first trip to San Francisco last month, we were lucky enough to find Ellen's property and were actually quite happy that the others didn't work out! The booking process went very smoothly and Ellen was able to meet us at the studio upon arrival. She gave us the lay of the land, suggested some places to visit, and was almost as excited about our trip as we were! The studio itself was absolutely perfect for my husband and I...location, amenities, cleanliness...and was actually larger than it appears in the photos. We were in town for a concert, and there was even a related article dropped off at our door the morning of the show...a lovely touch of home that you just don't get at a hotel!
Our trip lasted a week and given that the main reason for our trip was to see one of the original members of the Grateful Dead perform, it was wonderful for us to be able to walk down to Haight-Ashbury in about 2 minutes, and get to Golden Gate Park in about 10 minutes on foot. We were also able to catch transit right outside the door and get all over the city within about 20-30 minutes by transit.
We have already passed on two recommendations for this property to friends and would stay here again in a heartbeat if...WHEN...we're back in San Francisco.
Ellen was a wonderful host who was extremely accessible by email and also by phone. We were also able to check out in the evening because our flight wasn't until midnight...this saved us having to haul our luggage around The Haight! In all, this was a phenomenal trip and our wonderful host and her studio just made it all the better.
Our stay at Ellen and John's studio apartment was terrific. After a small apartment in New York, the larger space was so welcome. Cereal, coffee and tea in the cupboard were a big bonus. The place was spotless, and the hosts were very welcoming and quick to answer our questions. I'd recommend it anytime - and not just because it's in such a great part of the city.
We were lucky to find such a great place…close to my daughter’s apartment, in such a beautiful neighborhood. Last year, my husband and I stayed for a month and then, this year, for two weeks to help with our new-born granddaughter. The owners are warm, welcoming and full of insider tips - inexpensive ethnic restaurants (Abacus) and neighborhood favorites (Zazie), good view spots, free deals (museum days, gallery openings, neighborhood walking tours, etc). Hard to believe the studio is in the middle of a city! It looks out onto a garden, is quiet and attractively furnished and felt spacious and comfortable for both our stays. Ellen even gave us a ride when our taxi didn’t show up. We plan on making this an annual trip!
Our stay was absolutely wonderful in every way! The owner responded right away to my inquiry, and communication was very easy by phone and email. Our flights were delayed, but the owner was right there to meet us as we arrived, even though it was late at night. She was so friendly and helpful!! The studio itself was just as charming as charming could be. It was super comfortable and quiet and ideally located close to all sorts of delicious eateries, and to public transportation. Of special note, the sheets and towels were quite luxurious. Wonderful!
Hi Emily - sorry it has taken me a bit longer than it should have to write this review but I definitely want everyone to know that it such a lovely studio apartment - clean, the bed is sooooooo comfortable, quiet location, well located and the back garden is so private and perfect place to chill out after a busy day running around. Lots of cafes/eateries nearby (the little burger place just around the corner - the name has slipped my mind...oh my goodness, they serve the biggest burgers!), supermarkets handy and the tram stop is just around the corner.
Many thanks Emily for being such a lovely and warm host, you were fantastic emailing back and forth, on hand if we had any questions and we will definitely be in contact for another stay on our next visit to SF.
We were super happy with this studio for our Valentine's Day weekend in SFO. Location is perfect -- nice neighborhood with good restaurants within walking distance. Public transportation options nearby made us grateful that we didn't rent a car. Gourmet grocery on the corner is great for a cup of coffee and breakfast as well as buying goodies for the studio fridge. Space is clean and quiet. Bed is very comfortable with nice linens. Back porch and garden is private and lovely. Only change I would make is for wireless internet. Internet is there but wired on desk. Hosts were very accommodating and helpful!
