5 STAR, Large Nob Hill Gem, 6 Blocks to Union Square, Cable Cars & Attractions
Our stylish and comfortable apartment-home is a great starting point to explore our diverse city. Whether you are here for business or travel the location and comfort of our apartment will not disappoint. We are easy walking distance to downtown, …
Great part of the city. Very cool older building with the old fashion elevator. The linens couldn't be better. Very clean and open space. Perfect for our romantic getaway to the city. We didn't use the kitchen (why in this city?) but it was very nice. Very quiet building, great view and we felt right at home. Easy to grab the cable cars, BART and cabs as well. Great folks to deal with, very thorough and communication was excellent!
This place was truly fabulous. Could not have been better at all. The owners were terrific and accommodating. The location could not be better. Cable car in front of the entrance, On the hilltop! Terrific balcony is a special bonus. Thank you so much. Will return next year!

My husband and I stayed here for 9 days. The place was better then we expected. The photos did the place justice and the location is perfect. It had all the comforts of home plus some. Our hosts were in touch several times during our stay with recommendations for restaurants and shopping areas that were not "touristy" which was great. We would definitely stay here again and recommend this apartment to our friends and family. 5 star place!

My husband and I stayed here for a week while he was doing a conference downtown. This place was everything that we were looking for. This apartment was much bigger than we had expected from the pictures. It was an older building that was very clean and comfortable, the decor was smart and stylish, and the kitchen was well equipped and perfect for a week-long stay. I couldn't get enough of the wonderful cool cross breeze when you opened the balcony door and windows in the living room, and the sunny living room in the afternoons.
Even better, the location of the apartment in Nob Hill was superb. From the balcony and the corner of the street, you can see a direct view of the bay, and the cable car runs right down Washington. It is a mile walk directly downhill to get to downtown; and half a mile to the east is Chinatown, where a post office is conveniently located. Across the street from the apartment is a bodega (small convenient store), full-service laundry, and Nob Hill Cafe, as well as other fantastic restaurants nearby. We loved Hyde Street Seafood (awesome oysters) and the italian restaurant that's literally next door to the apartment, is highly recommended.
It is extremely easy to catch a cab from this location, especially if you walk a couple blocks up to Taylor and California, which is where the Fairmont and the Huntington are located - cocktails at either of these hotels in the evening is a must.
Another great place to go from the apartment is to Chestnut street in the Marina/North Beach area, which is a couple miles north-west (take a cab). Perfect place for local dining, bar scene, and shopping. My girlfriend took us to Delarosa and the Tipsy Pig, which were both really cool.
With that said, if you are looking for a centrally-located apartment with access to the best of San Francisco, this is just what you are looking for. We will definitely be calling Leticia and Mary the next time we come to town. Enjoy!
My husband and I stayed here for a week and could not have been happier with everything. Mary & Leticia were an absolute pleasure to deal with. The apartment is amazing! Close and central to everything. There is a cable car right outside that will take you straight to Union Square and another one a few blocks away that will take you to the Embarcadero.
Leticia and Mary checked in on us a few times via email to make sure everything was okay but there was no need, this apartment was perfect! The kitchen is fully stocked with appliances.
We can't wait to stay in this apartment next year when we visit again! Highly recommended.
My wife and I were here a week and had a great time. The apartment was as advertised and we loved the decor--it's comfortable but quite stylish and reminded us of an apartment in Paris where we stayed during our honeymoon. Some vacation rentals are kind of ragged--the furniture is cheap or worn and the housekeeping is sloppy--but this place is in great shape and clean as can be. It's real spacious for a one bedroom and the kitchen is unusually large and well stocked. They had quality, sharp knives, something I always appreciate when cooking.
The location is terrific. It's not as busy (or noisy) as some parts of the city so we didn't hear people leaving bars at 2 am. We didn't have a car, which worked out for the best because street parking looked grim. But there's easy access to the other parts of the city. The cable car that goes to Union Square stops at the corner, and a couple of bus lines are real close, too. Catching cabs was easy because there are major hotels within a couple blocks. Whole Foods and two outstanding wine stores that were recommended by the owner are a five minute cab ride away.
The owner met us when we arrived and was very patient answering questions about the city. I called her one morning for suggestions about nearby coffee places and she got right back to me. She had great recs for restaurants (sushi, Italian and Vietnamese) that we wouldn't have otherwise found. She also told us about a couple of holiday concerts and exhibitions at the De Young and the museum of modern art in SOMA. All in all, I could not have asked for better customer service.
We’d love to stay here again in the near future.
I stayed in this apartment as I was moving to San Francisco, and found it to be a great way to get to know the city. The location is clean, quiet and residential, without sacrificing convenience or proximity transportation and San Francisco city attractions. Aside from the owners, who are beyond helpful, what makes it this particular apartment stand out from others I’ve seen is that it is HUGE. It’s rare to find something so old that is large, clean, and in good condition, and this apartment is furnished with just about everything necessary to be able to live as if it were your own home. In my situation, this was a huge bonus for me, as I was able to store some of my belongings without actually having to unpack them.
If you’re unfamiliar with the territory, Whole Foods grocery store is a short bus/cable car ride away (or a walk if you’re not carrying too much), and there is a great mini-mart (Le Beau Nob Hill) three blocks away that doesn’t sacrifice quality or selection just because of its small size. If a cable car ride is on your agenda, I would highly recommend a visit to the nearby Cable Car Museum, where you can see what actually makes the cars work. Walking in some directions can be an athletic challenge, but will pay off by allowing you to indulge a little extra in the fantastic food around (Nob Hill Cafe is a carbolicious dream come true) and additionally with spectacular views and opportunities for photographs to show off to your friends and relatives. I fully recommend this apartment as a quintessential way to experience San Francisco!
I have to tell you--we've been renting vacation apartments for many
years and on five different continents, in countless cities and
countries and I have never met more attentive, supportive, responsive,
helpful owners--so--thank you very much. If and when we return to S.F.
we will definitely contact you.
I have to first say that the pictures of this rental are very flattering. I appreciate old with character but old doesn't have to mean dirty. This place needs a good cleaning. A bug came into the bedroom and we knocked it off the top of the bed and there must have been an inch of dust on the top. I didn't want to look under the bed but gave into it and it's filthy under there. I washed something out in the bathroom sink the first night. Big mistake. The sink was then broken and we couldn't use it all week. A repairman was sent over but I find it hard to believe this was the first issue with this sink. We had to use the kitchen sink to wash face, brush teeth etch. Yuck. I could go on and on about the dirt but I'll stop now. I don't get the rave reviews at all. I think they are fake. We should have gotten compensation. Karen & John from Pennsylvania
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We really wanted to explore as much as possible in San Francisco. This apartment was the PERFECT location! It is so close to so many bus lines and cable cars. We were walking distance to a lot of places. We went to Trader Joes our first day there and stocked up with groceries for the week...just rode the cable car back with our groceries.
The neighborhood is great. While we wanted to explore, we also wanted some peacefullness seeing as it was our honeymoon. It was quiet enough that we got just that. The nob hill cafe was decent and worth trying out...but our favorite thing about the neighborhood was the corner store, just a block or two away! It made it so convienent for the little things that we forgot at the store. They carried everything there. So great to have so close!
The apartment was very clean and truely felt like a home away from home. We had a lot of fun cooking in the kitchen and the kitchen floor is kind of cool! Cable television in the living room was nice for the times we wanted to relax, eat, and wind down. The owners have a huge binder full of information about the city, tourist brochures, car rental places, anything you could need, was in a nice little binder in the living room. SO HELPFUL!
The owners were so friendly and quick to respond with any questions we had throughout the week. They were even kind enough to drop off tupperware for our leftover food!
If you need to rent a car, we suggest avis, not to far from the house and they were very kind. GO VISIT THE MARKET at the ferry building. Tues, Thurs, Sat. So much local, fresh food. Bankok noodles in union square was so tasty we ate there twice. And they are open late. Do the Alcatraz night tour! It's a bit further but the California Acadamey of Sciences is such a cool museum and worth the trip. The Asian Art museum has beautiful artwork and history.
Check out Absynth (sp?) in Hayes Valley for tasty cocktails and appetizers (this was one of our favorite places). We also had amazing pasta at Il Borgo, on Laguna and Fell. Tiny place but so worth it.
All in all our experience was amazing and we couldn't ask for more. We've already discussed coming back and re renting the apartment for an anniversary at some point :) Browsing through the photos while writing this review made me miss it already! Our home away from home.
