Modern Home w/ Spectacular Views - Great for Families!
Our home is located in the upscale Mission Hills neighborhood, just above Old Town, and features breathtaking views of San Diego Bay, Coronado, Downtown San Diego, Point Loma, the San Diego airport and the Pacific Ocean. Centered within minutes o …
We had a wonderful stay at this VRBO. House was beautiful with great views. Very family friendly. Great location! Easy to get to everything. Owner was easy to work with and helpful in every way. Very strongly recommend this rental!
We rented this house a few days because my father was having eye surgery. It was very clean, comfortable and it has all you need. This made our stay very pleasant. The kitchen is beautiful, well equiped and a great view. This home is great for almost any occasion. Most important , the owner is a very nice person and gives you a very good description of the area.
I recently returned from a great stay in one of my favorite US cities, San Diego. This house was just perfect: clean and well appointed, and with an incredible view! I can only echo the comments made by the other reviewers.
Laurie couldn't have been more accommodating. From the initial reservation to coordinating our arrival and throughout our stay she was available by email or text. And she had home baked pumpkin bread waiting for us on arrival.
I look forward to my next stay.
Our family of four loved staying in this home. The view is amazing. If you listen carefully, you can hear the bugle at the Marine Depot. The location is great. One afternoon, my girls happily played Legos in the courtyard. Laurie's guide book is awesome. We've travelled to San Diego many times, but her book provided new restaurant spots and cheap sight seeing activities. Stay here, but not when we want to come!
I recently stayed at this lovely home in Mission Hills for a golf trip with 4 other friends. First off, I must rave about the owners. Their communication, accommodation, and personal touches (down to the fresh baked cookies) far exceeded expectations. This is by far the best experience I have had with VRBO. Thanks Laurie. The home is centrally located and well maintained. The kitchen is well stocked and views are great. The courtyard is beautiful and provides a nice sense of privacy for the home. There is a BBQ available for use as well as beach towels and boogie boards.
Note: Like many San Diego homes, because of the temperate climate there is no central air conditioning. While the home has plenty of windows to allow for a nice cross breeze, the home did get warm at times on an unusually hot Labor Day weekend.
A beautiful garden greets you to this well-cared for home. The chef's kitchen is very clean and beautiful with tile that reminds one of sea glass. For those with a yen for vintage; you'll enjoy the beautifully maintained, large, vintage hall bathroom. This home's location provides easy access to Hillcrest, the airport, and the freeway which will take you to shopping, beaches, and attractions. This is a quiet, upscale, residential neighborhood. We enjoyed walks in the neighborhood. If we'd have had young children, this would have been an excellent rental as many games/accessories are provided and the fenced yard would be a great play space. For those considering a 4th of July rental, we can confirm the view of multiple fireworks displays was spectacular! We enjoyed our stay and would consider staying here again.
My family -- my husband, mother and three-year-old son had a fabulous visit to San Diego last week thanks to Laurie's Mission Hills home and her amazing hospitality.
The three-bedroom house is clean, modern and cozy and has a dynamite view of the airport and harbor. Perched in Mission Hills, there are plenty of things to do in walking distance -- Old Town, Mission Hills and Hillcrest and just rambles around the lovely neighborhood. There's also a playground nearby for kids.
When we arrived, Laurie greeted us with a warm plate of freshly-baked oatmeal cookies and advice on the best local eats and sites. And no worries if we couldn't remember everything, Laurie created her own handy guide to the neighborhood and San Diego complete with her favorite restaurants, coffee houses and more. We took several of her recommendations and were not disappointed.
Honestly, this was the best VRBO experience we'v had so far. We can't wait to go back again!
We have stayed in many VRBO homes across the country, and this is truly one of the loveliest. All the other reviews mentioned the fantastic views from the wide open living space, but you really have to see it to believe it. The house was very comfortable and spacious for our group of 5 adults. We entertained our San Diego family of 14 two evenings and had no problem accommodating them. We enjoyed cooking in the big gourmet kitchen, and when we suggested some additional cookware for future guests, Laurie graciously thanked us saying feedback from their guests is how she and Dave continue to improve this wonderful rental home. Laurie and Dave are delightful owners and always just a text message or phone call away. Thanks for sharing your home with us - we'll be back!!
We rented the home for a business team group meeting of 4 Executives. This home is absolutely beautiful and could truly be featured in Better Homes & Gardens. The view of the harbor is truly spectacular. Additionally, the home is maintained with all the necessities needed for a stay away from home. The kitchen is stocked with wonderful dishes, pans and utensils. The three bedrooms were nicely maintained with very comfortable beds. The spacious courtyard has beautiful trees and flowers to take in a sunny afternoon. Laurie the owner made the process seamless and took such care to be sure that we were comfortable and had all that we might need for our stay. Thank You Laurie
Our family stayed at this property for approximately a month, while completing some work on our home in San Diego. We, including our two boys (age 8 and 5), love this house. We couldn't get enough of the fantastic view. The living space is open and bright, and you have everything you need and more, including a beautiful kitchen, very functional laundry area, and lovely patio and garden. The master bathroom is clean, large and bright, and our kids loved the bathtub. Speaking of kids, it's a big plus that this home is stocked with books, toys, puzzles and games. We have very active boys, and they always had something to do. The location of this home could not be more convenient to San Diego's major attractions. You are just minutes from the Zoo, Balboa Park, Sea World, downtown and beaches, and Old Town is right at the bottom of the hill, easy walking distance. We enjoyed the kitchen so much that we didn't eat out much, but if you want to go out, there are plenty of options, and the owners have left a folder filled with their personal recommendations for things to do and places to eat. We highly recommend you book a stay at this lovely home over a hotel or motel. You will appreciate your privacy and all the other comforts of home!
This is a wonderful home- truly a gem in a great location. We are a family of four (2 young children) and this house was perfect for us- it's very well-maintained, plenty of room for the kids to play, a nice big tub for baths, and even several toys that were thoughtfully provided by the owner (who is very sweet and always available to help with any questions). And of course I must mention the views- they were indeed amazing. My kids loved to watch the planes at the airport, and to just stare at the downtown skyline. In short, this is a great home, really for anyone but especially for families, and we can't wait to come back.
We visited in March to attend my son's graduation from Marine Boot Camp at The Marine Recruiting Station in San Diego. This is the perfect location if you are visiting San Diego for MCRD - you can see the entire compound from the living room. The owner was nice enough to bake cookies for our arrival and check on our stay through out our visit. I would highly recommend staying here for anyone, great neighborhood, beautiful kitchen and garden - wonderful home!
We stayed here while we were in town for a family matter and found this house to be a perfect location for wherever we needed to go in San Diego. The house is well maintained with a top-notch kitchen and living room views that were to die for. The owner was very helpful and provided plenty of information about the area including some great places to eat and local attractions. If this place is available the next time we are in San Diego we will definitely book it.
I am a San Diego resident who stayed in the house with other family members, both from in and out of town. We wanted to stay together in a house that could accommodate all of us, centrally-located for those of us who had to carry on with our daily lives (and close enough for visitors), but also pretty enough to be able to enjoy and relax in, and feel as though you're on vacation in San Diego. This house was perfect. It is in a great location, has a lovely living area with large windows that provide a great view of San Diego, including the downtown skyline, the airstrip and the bay. On New Year's eve our 20-something daughters had friends visiting, and on New Year's day we had family over for a barbecue. The house was perfect for entertaining both sets of people.
The master bedroom is really comfortable (fantastic tempurpedic mattress) and nicely furnished (with a tv), with ample space to unpack your clothes. It does not have an en-suite bathroom but the two smaller bedrooms share an interleading bathroom and there is a separate, large bathroom for everyone else. The "children's" bedrooms are not big, but comfortable enough and serve their purpose adequately.
The kitchen has great appliances, including a very silent dishwasher, a great coffee-maker, stove/oven, microwave, washer and drier. Of course, it's a vacation home (not a hotel), so you have to provide all the home basics, like toilet paper, soap, detergent, salt and pepper, coffee, etc. yourself, which is a small price to pay for the convenience of all that a home offers, including being able to make your own meals whenever your want.
Laurie, the owner, was exceptionally helpful and accommodating, met me at the house, gave a quick tour of the property and remained available (by text message) to answer any questions. Everything in the house was spotlessly clean on arrival. There were plenty of towels and spare bedding, freshly-baked cookies on arrival, and a great compendium of things to do and see in San Diego, including recommended restaurants, rules and policies of the house, and just a wealth of useful information. We had several laptops operating in the house, and there were no problems with connecting to the wi-fi.
The outside entertaining area is in a small courtyard, with a table and four chairs. Since it was winter, however, we spent no time outside and just enjoyed the inside views and living space. All in all, we loved our stay in this house and were very sorry to leave.
First let me start off by saying that the overall condition of the property and the views from this house are nothing short of spectacular. The homeowner was very accomdating prior to and after our arrival in San Diego. She met us at the house after a late evening arrival, quickly gave a tour and was even nice enough to present us with fresh baked cookies. Additionally, she picked up some breakfast items at the local grocery store prior to our arrival so that we were able to cook breakfast the following morning. Thanks!
I gave the overall experience at the property an excellent but there were a few issues that future renters need to be aware of:
The houses are very close to one another and you have very little privacy. This presented a unique challenge for us becasue we had quite a few local family members visit and I found myself constantly trying to regulate the noise levels so as not to disturb the neighbors. Also, there is very little parking on the street so it was difficult for visiting members to park close to the residence.
The house had a great courtyard and our intentions were to BBQ and enjoy as much outdoor time as possible during our stay. I love to start the evenings by grilling a good steak, enjoying a cold beer or cocktail and ending the evening with a good cigar. The one thing I found odd about the rules associated with the property is that they allowed you to BBQ in the yard which produces an enormous amount of soot and smoke but they would not allow me to fire up a cigar. I can truly understand the no smoking policy within the house but I think an exception for the the backyard could have been made.
Nonetheless overall we had a great expierience with the property, the homeowners were not intrusive and the property condition was immaculate. We would definetly rent the property again.
