Magical Beach Cottage, 1 Block from the Ocean!
Vacation in our charming home! Location is everything. Our home is steps to the beach and two blocks from the main street in Ocean Beach, which has shopping, restaurants, and sightseeing. Sun, surf, bike ride, and relax. This is the best that San …
Excellent beach rental for those with kids, (in my case grand kids), and dogs. Everything you need without the worry that something fragile and expensive might get broken by a child or dog. Cottage is clean and the appliances and furniture are in good shape; with super comfortable beds. Very short walk to the beach, places to eat, or shop. Owner was quick to solve a situation with a slow draining tub. Great that there are no unexpected extra charges that pop up - the price is the price. Will choose this property again if vacation plans bring us back to the San Diego area.

I stayed here in August for two weeks with my husband and three adult children. We had a comfortable amount of space, and the location was wonderful. The kitchen was well equipped although we had to buy a few more knives, forks and dishcloths. The new HE washer and dryer was great, and the bathroom is well equipped with linens and beach towels. We appreciated the list of restaurants and activities and referred to it frequently. The beds were very comfortable, although we would have liked a reading light and small shelf or bedside table. The space is tight though so it may not be possible. We had fun shopping at the co-op and the evening farmers market and preparing dinner with our finds. Also saved money making breakfast and some lunches in the cottage. OB is a quiet-ish resort town, we didn't feel we were part of a huge tourist industry. It has more of a 60's-70's holiday town feel yet is convenient to all San Diego attractions. A reasonable drive from John Wayne airport with its cheaper flights. We would definitely stay here again. Tobi responded quickly to all my emails and I had a phone number to reach her, although the cottage was well prepped and we didn't have to call. There were snacks on the table and drinks in the fridge when we arrived, which was appreciated.
My family of four with our small dog spent several days at the Magical Cottage in Ocean Beach, SD. It was very nice and relaxing. We actually didn't spend much time in the cottage but when we did...it was very nice and comfortable to come back to. All the basic staples you need were provided by the owner as well as extras like coffee/tea. The beds were very comfortable and there's a full size table to eat at as well. We hardly watch the TV but there is cable and movies to watch. There are beach chairs and umbrella as well to use at the beach. Our stay here definitely made our vacation a little more home like and so relaxing.
Loved walking to the beach and all restaurants - cottage was very comfortable. Had a few very humid days and the air conditioners in the bedrooms was a saving grace - would be nice to have it all air conditioned. Owners were very accommodating. The kitchen and storage was great as well as having a washer and dryer - amazing!
The Ocean Beach home was located in the perfect area for easy access to all the main tourist attractions in San Diego as well as the beach and popular restaurants. It was small, but provided everything we needed for a great vacation. I would definitely stay at this property again.
The place was very nice and affordable and had the amenities we were looking for. I gave 4 stars because it was a bit smaller than we thought, but that's not really a negative. If we had the opportunity to stay there again, we totally would! The neighbors were super friendly. And they provide a parking spot! That is a serious plus!! Overall it was a great place to stay.
It was our second time renting a VRBO cottage in Ocean Beach for a weekend visit with our son who lives there. Previously we stayed south of Newport Ave. and were so much further from everything. This location was perfect. We walked everywhere - even with our two year old grandson who forgot to pack his stroller. The beach was a block and a half away with a volleyball tournament that was so fun to watch. Very clean and peaceful.
Had breakfast at TeMana and loved it. Don't be put off by the name of the restaurant called The Joint. Fantastic food. And Pizza Port is just down the block - just bring it home with one of their huge salads.
Nancy, Michael, and Jordan arrived from RI on June 25th, 2013. We stayed 8 days. The place was very cute and cozy. It had everything we needed. It is in a great location, one block from beach. Even though the cottages were close, there was no problem with noise. We had a Great Time! Everyone was nice and Tobi was always around if there was a problem,(which there was not one). I was happy we stayed there and we would stay again! The only small issue was a lack of places to put our cloths, which, was a little tight. But for the price and location I did not mind so much! Again, I would still go back!
My family came for a trip to San Diego -- our first time in a vacation rental, we usually go to a hotel, but we will never go back to a hotel! This place was so great - close to everything, really clean, the owners put a lot of thought into everything that was included, from beach chairs to kitchen tools, everything we possibly needed was supplied. We even had friends who live in San Diego over for dinner! They have six cottages on the lot so next time I'm bringing friends and we will rent 2 or 3 units!
We loved staying at the beach cottage, close to the beach, close to downtown and dog friendly. It was exactly what we needed to escape the Phoenix heat. Thank you Tobi!
This is a great cottage. Simple furnishings but has everything you need. Clean and comfortable. The owner Tobi and her husband are very nice and hospitable hosts. You cannot beat the location--Walking distance to the main strip (restaurants, bars) in Ocean Beach and a block from the beach. A friendly group of people were staying there at the same time, so we were able to meet nice people in the property's courtyard.
Great place. Very clean and so close to everything we wanted to see in OB.
A little more space would have been nice, but it all worked out well for four adults and two dogs. We made Thanksgiving dinner and ate outside on the picnic table. We had two friends visit for awhile, and we played games comfortably inside at the dinner table.
Tobi was very helpful when we needed anything!
In the future, I might ask her for a nightstand or shelf in the bedroom. There really wasn't a place to put clothing or a book or a glass of water. Not that big of a deal, though.
You MUST stay at this property when visiting San Diego. I've been home for 2 weeks, and I still feel relaxed from my week-long stay at this place. From the moment we arrived, I felt welcome. Tobi was very kind and accommodating. There were snacks and drinks provided when we arrived, the house was super clean and comfy, and our request for extra beach towels and sheets was responded to very quickly. The house looks exactly as it does in the pictures on the website. The list/reviews of restaurants and "things to do" which Tobi provided prior to our arrival was extremely helpful. (Ciao Bella had delicious Italian food and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I also enjoyed the cafe located on the Ocean Beach pier. They had a nice selection of food and the lobster tacos were out of this world. The candy shop spoiled me - chocolate at home just doesn't taste as good now that I've had their incredible treats.) The beach is a short walk up the street and is a great place to spend time. The tide pools were really neat to see as well. There are tons of restaurants in the area, so it is easy to find something that appeals to everyone. Lots of great shopping too. Everything you need is within walking distance - including a grocery store and drug store. We had a mini van because we were doing a lot of sight-seeing, so the parking space was a huge bonus. The people in this community are super friendly, and I felt completely safe during our entire stay. I wish I could have stayed two weeks instead of one. It was truly one of the best vacations of my life. Thank you Tobi!
Although we live less than 15 minutes away - this spot was PERFECT for myself and teenage girls to feel we really were able to "get away!" Plenty to do and so close to everything! Relaxing on the beach, shopping on Newport, Farmers Market on Wednesday, tons of restaurants of all types within walking distance. We couldn't have asked for more. Thank you, thank you, and we hope to be back next year!
We love CA anyway, but we had to escape both AZ heat and a kitchen re-model for a bit longer than our usual beach stay. Luckily, we came to stay here; even moving from one cottage to another mid-stay (front cottage was already booked one of our weeks) didn't cut into our good times. We cleared out on a jaunt for a few hours, and Tobi and the cleaning staff moved our things--including refrigerator items! We've rented a number of times along the coast, and this was definitely the best equipped and cared for rental we've seen. Fancy, no--simple, easy, and convenient, yes: a classic beach cottage. One proviso: dining table and chairs are bar height, if that matters to you.
The on-site laundry provisions, the air conditioning, the proximity to beach, tide pools, Wed afternoon farmers' market, and major entertainment venues--all made for an easy and entertaining stay. What took it to another level was Tobi's eagerness to help us work out solutions to special dietary concerns and her responsiveness to suggestions and requests having to do with guests' comfort.
We loved it. It was so close to the beaches and downtown. We walked everywhere and ate dinner out every night. We watched Seaworld's fireworks at night after driving a few blocks. Our labradors loved dog beach. I am glad we had one of the front cottages. The yard was perfect for our dogs and we sat outside with them on the outdoor furniture. We were really glad there was an air conditioner as it was quite warm the days we were there. We were also grateful for the WiFi. The homeowner provided us with a list of places to go and eat which we used extensively. We were in the flight path for San Diego airport, but we didn't notice it during the night
