This is our second stay here and once again we enjoyed ourselves immensely. The neighborhood is a great place to walk and convenient to restaurants, grocery stores, movie theaters, and other amenities that make the apartment a very pleasant place to stay. If you have kids, they will enjoy the copious toys--mine certainly did. The owners, who live downstairs, are friendly and helpful.
We arrived hours after a huge storm blew through the area, and saw tall mature trees littering the roads and lawns as though it was a game of pick-up sticks. All notwithstanding, our arrival was as smooth as possible. The owners had a key waiting for us in the lockbox, and we found the apartment to be clean and ready to move in. We enjoyed the safe neighborhood very much, and walked miles every day during our weeklong stay. There is a nice bookshop, bread bakery, and Dunn Bros coffee house all located on the same corner within a 5-10 minute walk. Also nearby is a WholeFoods Store, and a well stocked wine merchant. The owner/manager was away for the week while we were staying, but her husband was around and we enjoyed meeting him very much. The apartment was very quiet, and well equiped with plenty of kitchen equipment. Plumbing & electrical all worked well, and the bed was comfortable. My wife and I would stay here again without hesitation.
We needed a place to stay with our family of five visiting from CA. This was perfect! Very comfortable and spacious and clean. And the owners were friendly and welcoming. They even let us do our family laundry when we arrived after spending four days at a cabin. Also, the neighborhood is just right when visiting St. Paul. It is walking distance from restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, and Whole Foods. Now we have a place to stay when visiting my family in MN!
We thoroughly enjoyed our return visit. Our kids had so much fun with the inside and outside toys, and the adults appreciated all the space to spread out. It sure beats a hotel. It was great to have the new dishwasher. I'm sure that we will return.
This place was very kid-friendly. We were happy to have the playroom full of toys, movies, games, outdoor toys, etc. The owners were very helpful in attending to all of our needs - questions about directions in and around town, how tv system worked, ideas of fun things to do with our family, etc. Location was perfect as it was walking distance or short drive to many nice things to do. The neighborhood was absolutely beautiful!
My only complaint, and i wouldn't even call it a strong complaint, was that the place was not incredibly clean. I realize it is an older flat, but the bedding/curtains were dusty and didn't seem freshly washed, the floors and rugs especially seemed kind of dirty, etc. The property owner was still cleaning when we arrived, so the place was not 100% ready for us though I did let her know when our flights came in, etc.
Again, those were not major issues but probably enough for me not to stay there again. The property owners themselves were incredibly friendly and helpful, and it was a perfect place with kids. It's just that when I go on vacation, I like for things to be super clean - maybe b/c my house w/ 3 little kids is always a disaster! - and I didn't feel like that was the case here.
This apartment is in a lovely old St. Paul duplex, and is located in a great area. It's close to colleges, downtown St. Paul and easy access to highways to get around. Like many old houses, it has its creaks and squeaks.
The owners were very helpful during our stay, and clearly wanted us to have a good visit. Given that the area received several inches of snow during our SPRING visit, we appreciated that! And after we left, we realized we had forgotten a piece of jewelry. Amber took the time to find it and mail it to us.
I have never felt so welcome in a vacation rental! The owners treated us like old friends. When we arrived late at night with our two year old, one of the owners helped us carry our bags upstairs and offered us some homemade chicken soup! They let us know when there was a snow emergency and gave us the garage door opener, putting their car out in the snow! While we were there, we celebrated our son's 2-year old birthday, and one of the kids from downstairs came up to give him a homemade present. On top of that, the rental was really cozy and stocked with all sorts of toys, games, and books. The location is convenient to St. Paul and Minneapolis. We will try to stay there every time we return.
This was our second time to spend Thanksgiving week here. There was plenty of room for our family and a sister. The place was vey clean. We were able to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving dinner in the kitchen. Whenever we needed extra cookware the landlords were very accommodating and helpful. We would definitely stay here again. We visited the Guthrie theater, the Mall of America, and the University of Minnesota.
We loved this house. It was perfect for our group. We had a family gathering at my sister's nearby and we just have too many people to fit. This was the perfect overflow. The living areas are especially large and comfortable. The screen porch room was a little bit crowded for the couple that drew the short straw, but it would be the perfect place for kids. :) Amber was helpful and sweet. We will definitely stay again.
We gathered for our son's graduation at Hamline University. With the addition of the sunroom room downstairs, we slept 9 people ages 13 to 79 (with one bathroom). It was an excellent place to stay. The location was convenient. The owners were friendly and helpful with suggestions for eating local and ethnic foods. We were also able to host a few of our son's professors and friends for an afternoon gathering.
It was clean and the kitchen was stocked well enough so we were able to make simple meals and snacks there.
