Many, many thanks! We had such a great holiday in Rome, not only due to the magnificence of the city itself but also being able to relax in your wonderful space...gazing up at splendid ceilings, down at beautiful floors or out at gardens which truely inspired me..not to mention beds that were so comfortable, each day we resurfaced ready to walk the streets of Rome yet again!! We have All thrown coins into the Trevi fountain to ensure our return ..hope you'll have us again one day! ***** Lovely to have met you, Marion.
We found this terrific self catering through friends so we had not realized that we were allowed to post up a review on Holiday Rentals even if they had discovered the place through that site We feel we must say what a jewel it is We booked late so the only accommodation left was Guest House 1, the three east rooms of the villa This was described by the owner as being "our cheap`n `, cheerful deal" Which is exactly what it is. The price was extremely reasonable (this was a late booking of course ) and it could not have been more cheerful : Italian country furniture mixed with English chintzes , small rooms, but large comfortable beds with hand made mattresses, books, tiny but adequate tiled bathroom and quite a large kitchen This has all the essentials : washing machine, stove, toaster , coffee machine ,huge fridge useful in summer etc etc though perhaps Gordon Ramsay might feel it short on gadgets . We became lazy about catering anyway because of the delicious delis just up the road - but when called upon,my wife managed to cook for four with no difficulty mainly pasta dishes and salads with fresh vegetables and fruit from the pretty market just outside the gate , and the home pressed olive oil produced on the estate .This can be bought, but we were given it free by the friendly housekeeper who has been with the family from time immemorial and whose only wish is to please guests- and mainly I suspect because she loved our bambini who played outside her window whenever we were "at home " Which it was for the week The garden is breathtaking and we had our own private bit of it . We sat there a lot looking over the magnificent Roman wall(which is also the garden wall !) while the children played We took away happy memories We shall be back
We were very fortunate to stay for our summer holidays in 2012 (2 adults and 3 kids) The apartment (Piano Nobile) was truly stunning and all of the arrangements with Odile were made efficiently and pleasantly. We had absolutely no problems whilst we stayed there and Odile was more than happy to help with any queries we had during our stay..the pick-up arranged from the airport was great and despite us arriving very early, Odile arranged for additional cleaning staff to be there so that we were able to use the apartment as soon as possible. It was incredibly hot whilst we were there so we spent a few days down at the Piscina dell Rose down in Europa - you can get the bus just down the road. We walked to the Colosseum most days (10mins) and got buses/metro from there. An evening stroll to the San Crispino gelaterie is a must and the shops/restaurants nearby are plentiful. Staying in Rome, in a beautiful apartment, enabled us and our kids to explore Rome at our own pace and gave the kids a real chance to see the history of Rome..hearing our 4 year old declare she could imagine the chariots racing around the Palantine was wonderful. Can't say enough how much we enjoyed our stay in the wonderful apartment and big thanks to Odile for ensuring it all went smoothly.
Villa Habsburg is an absolute gem in the middle of Rome, and we still can't believe our luck in having found it online. It would be impossible to find anything remotely like this anywhere else in Rome. The gardens are lush and beautiful, with green lawns and towering umbrella pines framing the views of the Baths of Caracalla and other Roman landmarks. Our traveling group of three 50-something couples rented the "Piano Nobile" - a second-floor apartment with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a dining/sitting room, and a full kitchen. The bedrooms were huge, clean and lovely, with large windows and French doors onto the terraces. Every bedroom had its own terrace with table and chairs, and we enjoyed all three of them for breakfast, appetizers and late-night snacks (the terraces are large enough for six people to enjoy together). The views from the terraces are incredible, day or night. Even though it was very hot in Rome during our visit, the house stayed cool and comfortable, with great airflow thanks to all the windows. A wonderful grocery store is located just a couple of blocks away, so we stocked our kitchen with breakfast supplies plus pancetta, bresaola, cheeses (the selection was fantastic), figs, tomatoes and wine. We felt like royalty. The location of the house was excellent. We never used the buses, because we all love walking. We walked to several restaurants, to the Coliseum (a 10- to 15-minute walk), and even to the Vatican (about 45 to 50 minutes). When we opted for taxis a couple of times to give our feet a break, we found the cost pretty reasonable. One note for groups: An additional bedroom and bathroom are available as an add-on, and you might want to consider that if more than two couples are sharing the apartment and/or if you want a little more privacy. One of the bedrooms has its own en-suite bathroom, but the other two bedrooms share a bathroom - and those in the far bedroom have to walk through the center bedroom to get to the bathroom. In addition, this bathroom has a glass door - it's fogged, so you can't see details, but you can see in. We all knew each other well, so this wasn't an issue for us - we just agreed to look the other way when passing the bathroom door. But it's something to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to add the extra bed/bath unit. All in all, we loved our stay at Villa Habsburg and would recommend it enthusiastically. Twelve thumbs up from our group!
