In the heart of the Monti district, you'll discover a wonderful part of Rome. It isn't as famous as other areas, yet is right in the center of the Eternal City with many of the famous sights within walking distance. It is characteristically Roman, one of the most ancient neighborhoods in the city. History echoes with views of the Coliseum, the Roman Forum just a few minutes by foot. 2000 years ago this was the subura, the working class area of ancient Rome where Julius Cesar was born. A number of the most important churches in Rome are nearby: St. John Lateran, St. Peter in Chains, St. Mary Major. Traditionally a neighborhood of craftsmen, you will find old crafts and modern arts and crafts side by side. Monti has gentrified over the last decade so there is a wealth of restaurants, beautiful shops with fine items of all kinds. Some guests find this more fun to explore than jostling with the crowds around the Spanish Steps.
The building is located on a limited traffic street in Monti. There is local traffic. Directly across the street is a cafe with wifi.
The apartment is on the second floor (American designation) and there is no elevator, so you will need to climb one flight of stairs. You enter the apartment into the living room which is spacious and features the original wood beams in the high ceiling. The room is internal so two rows of glass bricks above all the doors of the external rooms bring in natural light. There are a number of lamps for adequate lighting. There are several very nice piece of antique furniture from France. In a niche on the wall is a Roman statue of the great Roman politician and philosopher Cicero. Quality paintings adorn the walls.
In the living room is a television with DVD player (European standard). No satellite reception, so Italian shows only. There is also a CD player. The dining table is set against a partial wall that separates the small, well equipped kitchen. Next to the kitchen are handy cupboards. The master bedroom is very large and has a queen sized bed and a cozy, well-lit reading area. A large antique armoire has plenty of room for clothing. The second bedroom with single bed doubles as a study. There is an armoire for your clothing. Across the living room from the bedrooms is the bathroom that has a shower over tub. An alcove has a window that overlooks the inner courtyard. In the alcove is the washing machine.
