Phuket is an island province roughly the size of Singapore in southeast Thailand
. It is often called the “pearl of the Andaman Sea” for its stunning natural beauty from dramatic mountain ranges to world-class beaches.
Patong is the largest and busiest part of Phuket. Beaches in this area have a party atmosphere and the nightlife is unrivaled. North of Patong is Kamala Beach, which has more of a secluded, small-town feel. Surin is considered the most cosmopolitan part of Phuket, scattered with trendy beach clubs and luxurious resorts and homes. Other popular neighborhoods include Karon, Kata, Phuket Town, and local-favorite Banana Beach.

Phuket is easily most well-known for its countless stunning beaches, perfect for soaking up some sun. If you need a break from sunbathing, many beaches offer rental sea kayaks, scuba diving lessons, fishing, and amazing surf. Expand your beach options even more with a day trip to James Bond Island or the Phi Phi Islands to snorkel around their expansive coral reefs. For breathtaking views, hike through the rainforest in Khao Phra Thaeo National Park to the vista points or to Nai Yang Beach where the turtles lay their eggs. Looking for adventure? Go “zorbing” or attend a Muay Thai boxing match. Experience local history and flavors at the Wat Chalong Temples, Big Buddha, Fantasea street vendor markets, or the Old Phuket sino-portuguese style restaurants and shops. Getting to Phuket is easy, and relatively affordable. The Phuket International Airport is the most direct line of entry, though travelers may also come in through Bangkok International Airport (Suvarnabhumi Airport) and drive into Phuket via one of the two bridges that connect it to the mainland. Once you’ve arrived and are ready to go the island the most popular forms of transportation are taxis, cars, the local bus system, motorbikes, and tuk-tuks, small three-wheeled vehicles.
