Stylish apartment on charming street right off of Boulevard Saint Germain. Perfect location near metros, sites and shops. Home to the first Shakespeare and Company opened in 1919. This apartment is as charming as it is perfectly situated. In the heart of the Latin Quarter and on a quiet and picturesque side street off of Boulevard Saint Germain, it is only a short two minute walk away from metro Odeon and great shops, restaurants, cafés and galleries. For many, this is the best neighborhood in Paris.
At 42 m 2 (about 550 ft 2 ), this upscale apartment uses the space in such a way that it feels light and spacious even on a rainy Parisian day. The high white washed ceilings with original beams, white walls, and Asian motif murals, give it a clean sleek feeling.
One enters into the hallway and one’s first view is of a beautiful Klimt tapestry. Taking the hallway to the left will lead you directly to the living room and open kitchen. Tall French windows open out onto the typically Parisian street. The living area has an elegant, comfortable, and clean feel about it with a plump white sofa and two matching white armchairs. A pleasant space for relaxing after a day out sightseeing or shopping. Or catch up with the news with the flat-screen TV with its several English language channels. A smart black table with 4 black chairs is located by the windows, giving you a lovely street view, which is sure to please.
The kitchen may take you aback at first; a mirror located behind the cooking area and sink reflects the living room and windows, opening up the space. You may have to look twice - until you realize that what you see is the view behind you! It makes it all the more enjoyable to cook or do the dishes in this space. The kitchen has been remodeled and has everything you will need, 4-burner stove top, oven, microwave, and all kitchen appliances, as well as a marble counter top for preparations. A high-quality CD player/radio in arms length of the kitchen and living area make this a very agreeable place to prepare dinner.
Back down the hallway is the comfy bedroom with queen size bed overlooking the courtyard. It feels peaceful and simple, white with a Japanese style mural on one side, gray tiles on the floor. The ensuite bathroom is stylish with a pebble floor and a beautiful gray marble sink and large mirror. The bathtub has a shower which can either be handheld or attached to the wall. The WC is separate and accessed on the other side of the bedroom. This is where you’ll find the washer and dryer discreetly stored behind closet doors, and a window opening up to the courtyard.
This 18 th century building was home to the first Shakespeare and Co. bookstore, opened as a lending library and bookstore in 1919 by Sylvia Beach, where it became a gathering place for writers such as Ezra Pound, James Joyce, Ford Maddox Ford and Ernest Hemingway, before moving to the rue de l’Odeon and eventually to its current location on nearby rue de la Bûcherie.
