Paris 6, 2 rooms Apartment 45 m² in Saint Germain des Prés
Rue du Dragon, Cosy and quiet apartment in one of the most popular and traditional areas in Paris. An oasis in the sixth Arrondissement of Paris: the Luxembourg Garden nearby, 15 minutes walk to the Louvre and the Seine, in the immediate proximity …
I stayed at this property last October (sorry for the LONG delay in writing a review) I have stayed in many properties through VRBO and other sites over the last 20 years. i have never stayed in a property as dirty, poorly equipped, and quite plainly a "ripoff" as this one. Much of the flat looks as though it was occupied by piggish college students. I slept on the futon for a week under a comforter which i don't think had been laundered for months.. it was disgusting! Fortunately the Monoprix is close by as the first thing my roommate had to do was buy cleaning supplies to just get the bathroom and kitchen up to a minimum standard of hygiene. The location is great but the owner is taking advantage of that location by renting a filthy substandard property (wires coming out of the walls/ door 2 inches out of plumb, silverware and linen in disarray in the drawers and the entire flat in need of a good scrubbing). Go ahead and rent the property, but i recommend you bring disposable footwear and a sleeping bag.
PROS: Relatively good value (by Paris standards) on a one bedroom apartment in a great part of Paris. Location couldn't be much better in my opinion, I love the St. Germain area in the 6th Arrrondissement. Rue Dragon is a wonderful street and very close to some splendid Paris cafes and fantastic restaurants. The apartment has lots of character with a very bohemian feel - just don't expect luxury, it's very simple, a la bohemian. Wireless internet worked well, but the cable tv reception kept going in and out. Building felt very safe and secure.
CONS: Bad bed linens and the pillows are poor. Pull out sofa bed in the living room is small and uncomfortable. Apartment could be cleaner, but it didn't bother me much the way it was. The landlord, Sibyl, isn't much help and wasn't there to meet us. She also demanded we pay the full amount for the week on the first night. One major noise problem on a Saturday night that was probably an oddity, otherwise it was very quiet. The party next door kept us up all night from 12am to 7am - not fun after flying 4,000 miles across the Atlantic and you're desperate for rest. However, it was very quiet the rest of our stay there. Bathroom is ok, very small, but the shower could be trouble it you're over six feet tall.
Overall it was a positive experience and I would rent this apartment again. The best thing about the place is the location. I would, however, bring my own sheets and pillows and I would not sleep on the pull out bed in the living room.
I searched apartments and hotels for hours online finding the right place for my teen daughter and I to spend 11 nights in Paris. We wanted to stay in the 6th and this was the only accommodation there in this 100 euro per night price range that offered 2 rooms with 1 double bed in each. Even hotels or apartments twice the price did not offer a roomy place like this or even 2 double beds in 1 room. The beds here are extremely comfortable and we slept better than home. There are windows on all sides with lovely breezes. Another review describes this as an "attic apartment" in rather a negative connotation, which it is on the top floor of a Haussman building with a sloped roof in the big room, but that merely adds to its charm. We loved being on the top floor and as another review stated, out of the left window of the living room you can see the very top of Tour Eiffel and its nightly searchlight. There is an elevator that was in working order the entire time we were there. If you have difficulty with a short staircase after the elevator, it probably isn't for you. If you are a total neat freak and want a hotel room with daily housekeeping, this is not for you either. If you are a middle class person who doesn't live in a perfect house and doesn't employ a housekeeper, then you will be able to tolerate the amount of daily living clutter in this darling apartment. Think Breakfast at Tiffany's and you will get the picture; there is even a large print of Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in the living room. The place looks just like the VRBO photos, but the rooms are bigger than I expected. The neighborhood is wonderful, a short walk to Luxembourg Parc, many restaurants, groceries, pharmacies, boulangeries, bus stops, and metro. If you bring comfortable shoes you can walk to just about any of the popular sites within 20 minutes, except Versailles of course, but a bus several blocks away will get you to the C train. I think this is an apartment exchange in the true old-school sense, where someone lives here when guests aren't staying. Many of the VRBO listings seem like apartments that are maintained by the owners strictly for renting out, so naturally they will be free of everyday living items and possibly immaculately professionally cleaned, and if that is what you are looking for you should rent those, not this one. We would definitely stay here again, and with the above information kept in mind, would recommend this apartment to friends, family, or strangers.
Great value for money in Paris for 100 euro per night. The owner, Sybil, provided great communication from the moment we made our booking. As my partner and I were travelling with our 2 yo son on a budget we found it almost impossible to get an apartment that had a lift and a cot. This apartment was on the 6th floor and had a small lift making it easy with our son. There were only about 8 stairs from the lift to the apartment (loft). Sybil actually arranged to buy a cot for us and had it there for us when we arrived, she even found one on sale for 50 euro. Sybil was prompt to meet us and showed us through the apartment. For Paris we thought the apartment was a good size, consisting of a bathroom with bathtub and overhead shower, fully equipped kitchen with convection/grill microwave. Bedroom with double bed (please note you walk through bedroom to get to bathroom and kitchen which was not a problem for us) A large lounge room area with large LCD TV/DVD, lounge desk and chair and a double bed - which was great to lie on to watch TV) There is also a stereo for music. Sybil also has a huge DVD collection that you are welcome to. The apartment has a lot of pictures on the walls and some ornaments, lamps etc. We were very surprised to look out of our loft window at night to see the lights of the tip of the eiffel tower - no where in Paris would you get accommodation with a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower for this price in such a great location - I did a lot of research. Sybil also had a huge amount of cleaning products and vacuum cleaner there to use, as we are a little fussy with cleanliness, we did use them to give the place a clean when we arrived, however it was reasonably clean. Sybil had provided fresh sheets that she had just dried
Apartment is in a very secure building with access code entry and is close to metro, supermarkets and restaurants only a short walk. We did find it tricky to get fast food nearby, we found the best value meals to be in the Latin Quarter opposite the river from Notre Dame near the St Michel Fountain- French 3 course meals from 12euro pp - this was only about a 10-15min walk or Monteparnasse about 10min walk. Excellent location - right near Luxembourg gardens which is great for a toddler. Highly recommend the gardens for some R&R.
We stayed 5 nights but certainly could have stayed longer. Metro tip - best value is to purchase 10 tickets for about 12 euro & must see Disneyland for children - it was fantastic.
I have never written a negative review, and I hesitate because this is a new listing. I also feel an obligation to help inform other travelers and hope my review will encourage some necessary changes at this apartment. We changed apartments after staying for one night in July. (We had booked a week) This apartment is a new listing and hopefully the owner will make needed improvements to maintain and clean the apartment. The bathroom needed a good cleaning. We scrubbed the sink and tub, vacuumed up hairs from the floor. There was only one towel for 3 people, for one week. The beds didn't have real pillows and 2 sheets on the beds (not pillows from the couch, one sheet per bed) Clutter was everywhere. We were not met at the apartment as promised, after a long flight from New York. This was a very big problem, as we couldn't make contact as promised. We were very lucky to find another apartment through VRBO after staying one night.
Location-OK Near the Luxembourg Gardens. Elevator was a plus for this attic apartment.
