Bonita's--the best kept secret in NYC! I stayed with her in College Point while interning at the Whitney Museum of American Art and working part-time for the PBS show Art21. My daily commute to Manhattan took an hour to an hour-and-a-half, depending on traffic. It's a 15-20 minute bus ride to the 7 train in downtown Flushing, and then a 30-45 minute ride into Manhattan. The 7 is above ground if you're traveling in Queens, a definite perk if you're new to the borough and eager to see the sights. Although proximity to Manhattan was my primary reason for staying in College Point, I'd encourage future guests to explore CP and neighboring Flushing. It may not have the glitz n' glamor that Manhattan promises to its wealthier visitors, or the hip haunts you see popping up all over Brooklyn these days, but you'll find great food (Bonita, my boyfriend, and I did take-out at a fantastic nearby Indian restaurant on Thanksgiving Day) , affordable services (I got quality hair trims and blowouts for $10 at the tiny salons in downtown Flushing! The cheapest you'll find in Manhattan start at $35), and great people--like Bonita! It was pouring when I arrived, soaked, with my luggage on her doorstep. She carried my suitcase inside and gave me a pair of slippers. I was right at home ever since. Bonita is friendly and helpful, but was also understanding of my anti-social tendencies (after a hard day's work in Manhattan, I'd often run to my room, shut the door, and veg out until bedtime). She's also incredibly clean (I'm not always... Sorry, Bonita!) and very attentive to her devoted cats. I miss my cozy room in College Point (adorable and spacious), and hope you don't pass up the opportunity to stay with her.
Boni is great! We've enjoyed the stay and her company so much. She (and her lovely cats) are very helpful and polite. We have spent some time with her and recommend her as the best choice! Thanx once again!
We spent a week in house of Bonita. We were very pleased with the room and location of the house, it is close to a bus stop, metro links to the center of the city is also not a long time. Bonita is a very sweet and kind girl, pleasant in dialogue and polite. She is not annoying and talkative and does not prevent living. Her two cats are very sweet, you can play with them. Bonita immediately gave us the keys of house and we could come and go as we want. It is very convenient for walking. We were very satisfied with the room and recommend Bonita’s home for everyone who wants to stay in New York.
Staying here was definitely a great experience and a great deal. Bonita was very accommodating and nice, and made us feel right at home. The room is close to the Q65 bus and is only 30 minutes away from Manhattan so there's no problem commuting. The only issue I had was with the cats, which were really friendly, but seemed to make me sneeze a lot (an allergy that I was unaware of?).
nice lady with wonderful 2 cats,
I feel comfortable and had a great time during my vacation.
Great place, great host! Close to the bus route to Flushing and there were many places nearby which we enjoyed while staying. Bonita helped us a lot in making our move to NY. I would definitely recommend this place.
Inexpensive, comfortable ... Public transport is easy to find. Great. Host is very friendly.
