I was on Karina's apartment for 8 days in September 2012 and though my overall experience was ok (and my feedback positive), there are some drawbacks. I didn't actually get to meet Karina as she was not in the flat. There were only other guests. But she was very responsive to my messages and, as my flight to NY was delayed, she arranged to leave the flat's key for me. The flat is on an old building, on the 5th floor... by stairway. There is only basic furniture, two of three rooms have no windows and the cleanness was... reasonable. Considering rates and as a place to sleep in NY I'd say it was ok. The flat's location deserves some lines. It is REALLY on a chinese neighborhood. Only chinese people, shops and signs on dirty, unpleasant and smelly streets if you go in direction to East Broadway station (F line). But nicer and cleaner streets (and more NY like) if you go opposite direction, to Chambers or Brooklyn Bridge station (J, Z and 4, 5, 6 lines). It's easy to go by walking to several places in southern neighborhoods in Manhattan or to take a bus (M21) on Bowery Street to Midtown or Upper East Side. But there are not many options around at night (I found two grocery shops, not so close and not that nice). By the drawbacks, despite of Karina's affordable rates, I'd choose a different place for a second trip to NY.

Hello! we stayed in cathrine street for about 10 days in oct 08. the room was small but okay. the common areas in the apartment were large and also ok. it wasnt super clean, but as we later found out, there had been some misunderstanding concerning who was responsible for cleaning. but overall good and cheap. but make sure to get a really detailed map before you arrive. the address was extremely hard to find. the cabdriver didnt know the street name, neither did ANY of the local, when we asked. and we asked a lot!! the girls staying in the other apartments on a long term were really nice and friendly. the washing machine wasnt exactly great, so check out a nearby cleaner or the like.

LARGE Room/Wifi + Charm: NYC Heart

Old World style, doorman bldg, & a spacious room, unlike so many tiny spaces in NYC! A short walk to Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Theatres, Central Park, Grand Central Station, MOMA, Radio City Music Hall, Bryant Park, The United Nations. Close to many Restaurants, Boutiques, and Transportation.

This arrangement will be a share situation. You will take the Bedroom and I will sleep on the sofa that will be separated into an alcove-like space. Two people will feel very comfortable sharing the well furnished bedroom. I have a busy schedule that fluctuates but I will be available to help guide you in any way I can.

We share the kitchen and bathroom when I am around. Light cooking is permitted. The bedroom is spacious with a comfortable queen size bed. Clean linens, blankets, pillows and towels are provided. TV with basic cable channels. Wireless internet access.

I'm located in Midtown East very near many great neighborhood bars and restaurants. Just a few blocks away from the Renowned 5th Avenue, Madison Ave and 57th Street shopping areas. Also a block away from the legendary Park Avenue. A few blocks from the Theatre District (Broadway) & Times Square. A few blocks to the East River, Central Park, Rockerfeller
Center, Grand Central Station, Radio City Music Hall and The Museum of Modern Art. Just South of the Upper East Side and the Metropolitan Museum of Art! A short ride from downtown Greenwich Village.

      Elevator doorman building.

Nearest subway is 3 blocks away.
Easy access to most areas in Manhattan.

Grocery stores, drug stores, deli's, are very close by. Some are open 24/7.

On a hotel block but my lovely accommodations are significantly less expensive.

Lovely, fun neighborhood but also very quiet at night.

Please include a brief profile about yourself as it is important in considering you for the share.

      About me:

Hello! I am Cathy, & a bit about who I am. I am a native of South Carolina but have been living in New York since 1979. I absolutely love the energy of New York and I love meeting people from all parts of the world. My careers have ranged from personal assistant to celebrities, off broadway costume design, through helping run a high end hat shop & sales. I have lived oversees (Switzerland), love culture, eclectic music, good cuisine, fashion, cycling, skiing, beauty in all forms, kids & animals, exploring NYC on foot, & appreciate fine art & crafts. I prize reliability, loyalty & kindness, in turn demanding it of myself. I am friendly but not intrusive, open & welcome to varying people & guests. I also know NYC well, so can informally guide folks to excellent inside NYC events & happenings, many affordable-free!

Come stay with Native New Yorkers...and get a feel for the real New York City life...not the tourist trap commercial areas...

I am native New Yorker who has a private room available for your short term visits in Manhattan, in the residential area of Upper west side. Keep in mind is a ethnically mixed area, with all types of ethnic groups, which will give you a real sample of NYC

Read the entire profile so there are no surprises.

Please take your time and read everything carefully, so that you know what you are getting for your money.

The bedroom is a private, clean and comfortable room with a queen size bed that accommodates one or two individuals. It is not a huge room, meaning it's small, but it is comfortable.

My place is your home away from home. You are booking a room not an entire apartment. Access to the kitchen and the bathroom is included but not the entire apartment. Which means no lounge area, unless I invite you to, which I tend to do if I am not busy studying. I work full time and enrolled in a Doctorate program in I/O psychology

      Here's what you get:

      a queen size bed
      clean sheets
      A/C and ceiling fan
      Portable heater
Additional blankets and pillows as needed
      free Wi-fi
access to kitchen from 9am until 10pm
      microwave
      blow dryer
      iron

I am are conveniently located near trains and buses.which gives you convenience minus the downtown prices.

The apartment is located near the number #1 train and C train lines. As well as the buses 4, 5, 3, 100 and 101

NYC is a colorful place, often loud and packed with people, but the block I live on is quiet and you will be able to get a good night sleep, which will allow you to refresh and recharge yourself for a busy city. Keep in mind, New York is noisy and lively all around and it will take a bit of adjusting to. However, though my area can be described as colorful, you are on a residential block that is quiet and as safe as any area in New York City.

We are native new yorkers who know the city quite well, so if you need tips on how to save and enjoy your stay don't hesitate to ask us for help.

In order to make your stay easier, please remember to email your arrival dates and times to the airport so we can best estimate your arrival to my home

It is important you tell me in advance about your arrival and departure time both to the airport and my home. I work and will need to make proper arrangements for both arrival and departure. I need to know in advance, which means, please do not wait til the last minute

My goal is to make your stay fun and easy..so please feel free to ask questions.

      Tons of light! spacious room
600 square feet apartment with a perfect lay-out, so it feels bigger. When I'm at home, I love introducing visitors (especially international ones!) to NYC, by having them stay as my guests in my amazing, spacious living room.

This room is the best room in the apartment (it accounts for almost 1/2 of the whole space). It's got huge eastern-facing windows, so sun floods the space in the morning. If you like waking up to sun, you'll be so happy. The double sofa-bed is extremely comfortable - it feels like a real bed. (This is where my parents stay when they visit me and my dad has a bad back, so you know it's good!) and you're welcome to leave it set up as a bed the whole time you're here. I also have an air-mattress if there are 2 of you but you'd rather not share.

My fully-equipped kitchen is bright and you're welcome to cook as much as you want, use the staples in the cupboard/fridge. The apartment is always warm in the winter, and can cool down in the summer with the AC in the living room. Great water pressure and bathtub in the bathroom. Wireless/internet included, and my land-line phone is free for you to use for all calls in the U.S.

Friendly building in Sugar Hill, a terrific part of Harlem - this is where the Harlem Renaissance took place. Duke Ellington lived around the corner, and the best jazz club in the city is right down the block. Tons of sight-seeing hidden gems in the neighborhood.

Super convenient to get anywhere in the city with the subway: 3 minute walk to the A and D express trains (so 15 minutes / 2 stops to midtown!)

This is my home, so it's a clean, lived-in space with everything you could possibly need on vacation. It's ideal for anyone who wants a great base for a wonderful New York experience. I will give preference for people wanting to stay for longer time.

Add-on Services

No smoking.

Best if you're ok with leaving your shoes at the door.

Cleaning fee: $30 (due upon check-in)

All calls in the continental U.S. are free of charge. Must use a calling card to call internationally. I can provide if you need it.
