Romantic New Orleans Creole Cottage
The Grand Route Jazz Fest Cottage is a single home Creole Cottage built in 1901. The cottage has been constantly maintained since that time having had only 3 owners. We just completed a major renovation and re-landscaped in early 2013. All of t …
My girlfriend and I recently rented (January 31 to February 3) Creole Cottage. We both have been to New Orleans on numerous occasions, and this rates at the top. The home is as advertised with lots of extras--soaps, snacks, local beers, and more. The neighborhood was safe with friendly neighbors and a variety of excellent restaurants. Within a short walk is City Park. The sculpture garden is world class. I have been in the vacations rental business for 20 years, and this rates at the the 5 stars. We will be back! Rich and Peggy
What a lovely place! Very clean, and comfortable. Nice bed. It was particularly cold that weekend, so plenty of blankets were appreciated. Nice quiet neighborhood with a good market and several choices of restaurants and coffee shops nearby. Will be our preferred base of operations in the future!
My husband and I are in our 50s and frequent VRBO clients. We were meeting our grown children (who live in New Orleans) for three days at Christmas and we had hoped to find a small place for the two of us, not far from Mid-City. Well, we found the PERFECT place at the Creole Cottage -- this was definitely one VRBO experience that FAR exceeded our expectations! First, Anne was good enough to send a very detailed email ahead of the arrival date, covering all the important information about our stay. This helped tremendously for easy access and smooth sailing throughout our visit. Anne also kindly checked in with us a couple of times during our stay, to see if we needed anything else and to wish us a happy NOLA holiday! The cottage itself is every bit as wonderful as described on the site...even more so. Although we were away from our home for Christmas, we felt at home instantly - it was so cozy and just magical. There was a darling Christmas tree already set up for our gifts, and a beautiful Bose system for our Christmas CD listening pleasure! Every inch of the cottage is lovingly, beautifully, tastefully done, and completely comfortable. We loved the big bed, and we personally appreciated the overall cleanliness of the cottage, the shampoo and soap dispensers in the shower, the make-up mirror in the bathroom, the washer/dryer(!), the iron/ironing board, the efficient central heating system, the coffee maker and coffee fixings, the wine/wine glasses, the snack basket, the magazines, the CD selection, and the friendly neighbors we encountered. And, had it not been quite such a chilly Christmas, we would surely have lounged in the perfect little back yard. Unlike previous guests, we didn't spend much time in the immediate vicinity, but we did note the restaurants, coffee shops, small grocery and awesome wine shop, for our next trip. And we will be back, again and again, to enjoy Southern hospitality at its finest! Thanks, Anne and Charlie, for providing such a special oasis for visitors to your amazing city.
We stayed in the creole cottage for two days in early December. Living close by in Baton Rouge, we were able to view the cottage before our scheduled visit so we thought we knew ahead of time what to expect. However, the cottage exceeded those expectations! Everything about our experience before, during and after our stay was exceptional. The owners made the whole transaction a pleasure - even going out of their way to track us down as the owners of a camera that was left there inadvertently. They are the epitome of southern hospitality and it shows all over their awesome cottage. We look forward to staying there again and see by the availability calendar that others have discovered this jewel off Esplanade so will have to plan our visits to New Orleans around the available rental dates! Loved everything about our stay - from the tasteful decor to the walk ability of the neighborhood. We have rented numerous times through vrbo and this rental was definitely a highlight! Thanks Anne for helping make our trip such a great memory!
WOW. The Créole Cottage is as beautiful as it is comfortable. From the moment we arrived until we left every luxury was at our finger tips.
The fully equipped modern kitchen left for no wants. The Bath provided a Spa like atmosphere with an abundance of luxurious linens, towels, soaps, hair care, laundry detergent and a large capacity Washer and Dryer. The bedroom, a bit of heaven! The entire Cottage is both beautifully appointed and immaculate.
The weather was perfect as was the backyard (very private). We enjoyed sitting in the backyard visiting with our coffee each morning so much we actually had to pull ourselves away to go enjoy the sights of NOLA.
It is literally a 2-3 minute walk down a quaint street to the local coffee houses, groceries and restaurants. (Nonna Mia's is a must. The food was excellent, as was the service/staff.) Anne and Charlie were a phone call away to assistance if needed.
In addition to the local neighborhood we were lucky enough to have our close friends make sure we saw much of what NOLA has to offer. Up Town, The Garden District, The French Quarter, even a Swap Tour.
A wonderful Cottage belonging to a beautiful couple. We cannot wait to return. Thank you both.
The moment I walked in, I knew I'd found my NO home. The listing is spot on. You can feel how well loved this beautiful cottage is. High ceilings, rich wood and slate floors, perfect kitchen stocked with all the necessities, bathroom supplied with absolutely everything including shampoo, conditioner and body wash, full size washer and dryer, it was everything I wanted and needed. Once there I really had to force myself out the door to go adventure!
When I did finally tear myself away, what I found within blocks was several corner markets, frozen yogurt, a wine bar/shop, coffee house and a variety of delicious restaurants, including the best bbq shrimp po boy I've ever had at Liuzza's by the Track. The neighborhood has a laid back feel, that welcomes you instantly. When I ventured further, I found that City Park was even closer than I thought. I ran daily during my week long visit and never did the same route twice. I also took my daughter to put put golf at the park, strolled the New Orleans Museum of Art and treated myself (several times) to Cafe Au Lait and Beignets at Morning Call. All this without a car.
I utilized cabs and for a few days, a rental car to go see sites that were further afield. But at the end of each day, coming back to the cottage was like a special treat and I would smile to myself every time I opened the door. Oh...I can't forget the bed...it was HEAVEN! It was large and comfy, on the nights my teen daughter stayed over, she slept with me and I didn't even know she was there (and that's saying something because she's an active sleeper). During my stay, I cooked my daughter a full Thanksgiving meal in the kitchen, curled up with her or by myself to read and watch movies, and sometimes just had a glass of wine while listening to music and leafing through the local paper. Life slowed done beautifully in my cottage.
I call it mine now, but I know in reality it's Anne and Charlie's. I'm so glad they share it! And they do an astounding job of not only caring for the cottage, but of communicating and making you feel welcome. There was a little welcome basket waiting, and everything was neat and clean upon arrival. Before my trip Anne was a gem, staying in touch with me, answering all my questions (silly or not) and making sure I had everything I needed. I think I owe her an adult bev on my next visit!
Thank you again Anne and Charlie for a wonderful NO experience. I hope "my cottage" will be available every time I'm in town!
Creole Cottage Rental VRBO #469280
Visitor: B. Clarke nov
The Creole Cottage was absolutely lovely - beautifully furnished, well-stocked in every aspect (complimentary goodies were much appreciated), great backyard ……everything was perfect. After the days’ activities it was always a pleasure to return to this wonderful and comfortable home.
The cottage is in a great location with easy access to all that New Orleans has to offer. We used both the public transit and taxis. The neighborhood itself has a great “feel” to it with its restaurants (we particularly enjoyed Lola’s), grocery stores and City Park, just a couple of blocks away.
We also appreciated the quick and helpful responses of the owners if needed.
If - or should I say - when we return to New Orleans, we would love to stay here again.
We just got home from our trip down south and I wanted to tell you, Anne and Charlie, what a GEM you have in your Creole Cottage! This is the first time we used VRBO so I was skeptical, but you made this rental so easy from beginning to end. The cottage is absolutely adorable, top to bottom. Everything you could possible need was provided, from plushy towels to a fully stocked kitchen. The king sized bed was amazing! Best 2 nights sleep we had! We were able to relax at the table in the back hard and enjoy the flowers and plants and butterflies. The neighborhood was so nice and quiet, yet so close to restaurants, stores, etc. (go to Nonna Mia's for pizza....2 minute walk!) We had a car, so we drove everywhere. The French Quarter was close and we had no trouble parking. Also spent 1/2 a day at the WWII museum - WELL worth it and wished we had more time. It was a quick trip to your lovely city this time, but we'd love to stay longer in the future. I would recommend this cottage to anyone heading to New Orleans. Why would anyone stay in a hotel when they could stay at this darling cottage??
Wow, this was a perfect home away from home for our 4 nights in New Orleans. It was our first trip and we loved it. The cottage was exactly as the website shows. All the little touches have been thought of. I can't think of anything I'd have wished to see in this cottage. We would recommend this cottage to our friends and have already to one couple.
I cannot express adequately how wonderful our stay was. Anne and Charlie have made their cottage beyond beautiful and comfortable for their guests! I would absolutely recommend staying at their property....if you don't you will be missing out! The neighborhood is lovely and is surrounded by many delicious restaurants that are only a 2 minute walk! I cannot wait to return next year !'n
What a wonderful place! The house was immaculate and so welcoming. We loved the neighborhood and enjoyed many walks and meeting the get people of New Orleans. What an amazing city and what a great place to stay.
Thanks, Anne, we hope to be back soon.
This is a wonderful place to stay for a New Orleans visit. The description really does not do it justice. Easy access to anywhere in town, an $11 Cab ride to the quarter, very well decorated, great tv's, awesome stereo, comfortable bed, super clean, just the right size for a couple. So many great restaurants and places nearby to visit, but don't worry the owner has a nice folder with menus and everything you need to find them! Lots of nice little extra touches too. I felt like I was staying with a frined and I will never stay in a hotel again as long as this cottage is available! We totally enjoyed our visit, even down to the sound of the rain falling on the roof. When you go, be sure to check out the gorgeous blooming bush by the backdoor...I have made it my mission to find out the name of it.
What a delightful warm feeling when entering the Creole Cottage! We arrived just before sundown; the lamps were all lit awaiting our arrival. Everything in the home connotes quality - from the abundance of luxurious towels to the amazingly comfortable king size mattress.
The location is perfect for travelers who truly enjoy experiencing the actual feeling of the cities they visit. The Creole Cottage is well located in a quiet, friendly, safe neighborhood; there are restaurants, a grocery, a wine store/bar, coffee shops, as well as the old time "corner barroom" all located within a block or two of the home.
All the New Orleans attractions are easily accessible by car or taxi from this very centrally located property. New Orleans Museum of Art is within walking distance.
We LOVED staying here and hope it will be available when we return to New Orleans!!
This Cottage provided a comfortable, well located, quiet place to stay while in New Orleans. The Cottage is within walking distance of coffe shops, markets, City Park, and elegant restaurants. We found the Cottage to be just as advertised - very clean, well taken care of, and there was plenty of space to spread out and unpack. We found the washer/dryer to be most helpful. The back yard was a well kept secret - very beckoning. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils - I especially liked the large iron skillet! Great for the local sausages from Terranova's market. I only wish that I had not tripped the alarm! Otherwise, our stay was great! We would like to come again and will definately recomment the Cottage to others. ps - Parking was not a problem either!
I reserved the cottage for three nights; it was my first VRBO experience and it was excellent. Anne Singer has done a wonderful job with her Creole cottage - it's immaculate, uncluttered, fully stocked with kitchen and bath supplies, and beautifully decorated. I was very comfortable there and plan to stay there again. I'm very familiar with the neighborhood as my close friends live four blocks away. The house is very convenient to several local restaurants and the Fair Grinds coffee house, and is a quick trip from the French Quarter in one direction and City Park/New Orleans Museum of Art in the other. Anne was in contact with me before I arrived, and was very helpful. Can't wait to go back!
Awesome is the word to describe this cottage! The details added to the decor make this seem like home...only way better than home. The descriptions and photos are accurate...only it may be better than that! Public transportation is close by, if that is what one chooses, or if one desires to drive, it is not far to the City. There are good restaurants within walking distance, as well as stores to purchase necessities. We only stayed two nights, but I would definitely like to return for a longer visit. The backyard is beautiful, and if we were there longer, I would definitely want to cook out on the grill provided and sit out at the patio table, enjoying the lovely flowers. I did sit out there and blow bubbles with my granddaughter. Now to the owners....I did not meet them is person, but they are such gracious hosts through notes and e-mails. It is obvious that they love this cottage, too, and love to share it with others! Our visit was perfect in every way!
The Creole cottage was perfect in all respects.
Anne and Charlie helped us with our late night arrival to New Orleans. The location is excellent - a corner market a block away, and three excellent restaurants within walking distance. The Sunday brunch at Degas Cafe is divine - but make reservations.
We used the bus to get into the city fairly often, but mostly relied on cabs. Most places are only 15 or 20 minute cab ride away.
Cottage has a well equipped, large kitchen with eating area. Furnishings were all very comfortable, and the radio superb for morning jazz. Good internet.
We were sorry to leave.
Thank you Anne and Charlie for sharing your wonderful Jazz Fest Cottage with us! If I were designing my perfect vacation getaway cottage, this would be it. The beautifully written description of the cottage on the VRBO website is right on, and I don't know that I can add much to that, except to say that we fell completely in love the second we walked in the door. It has every amenity you'd find in a luxury hotel (and so much more!), and Anne was so helpful and gracious when we had a couple of questions. It truly felt like our Jazz Fest home, and we have already reserved our spot for the 2nd fest weekend next year. I'm tempted to find another reason to visit New Orleans before then, just so I can stay in this cottage again, in one of my very favorite neighborhoods in the city.
There is no place on this planet like New Orleans (no, it is it's own awesome planet), and there is no better place to experience it - for Jazz Fest or anytime you want to escape the Muggle world - than this gumbo-licious little gem of a Creole cottage placed in the midst of the jasmine perfumed sub-tropical air, music infused streets, and joyful neighborly celebration all around. Airy and cozy at the same time, with a supremely comfortable bed and plenty of space to awaken your soul, Charlie and Ann's cottage is THE place to base your experience. You can leisurely walk to Jazz Fest, be surrounded by festivities, amble to restaurant, shops, and then get to French Quarter in a few minutes. Be a part of it, bring on your bayou, crawfish spiced, zydeco dancing desires, enjoy! Can you tell that I'll be back? Oh, yeah...
