We arrived from a long road trip and easily found the house. The neighborhood is really nice and the surrounding houses were just as impressive. We were greeted upon our arrival and shown around the house - true southern hospitality! There was even a beautiful (and yummy) birthday cake waiting for me in the refrigerator! The house was very comfortable, with all the amenities that you could ask for (including a washer and dryer), clean and felt very safe. There is a bus stop less than 10 minutes (walking) that will take you directly to the French Quarter. A cab from the French Quarter back to the house was (drum roll) less than $10. My husband and I enjoyed Sydney's beautiful photographs in the house and also enjoyed speaking with her and seeing her home. I would recommend staying here to anyone and plan to return asap. Thank you for making my birthday and my stay in NOLA so wonderful and memorable! It was hard to leave! Toto, the pup, was also very sweet! :) A few good places to go: Acme Oyster House (WOW), Napoleon House (Pimms Cup) and Cafe du Monde (duh) just to name a few. Next time, we plan on bringing bikes to tour the city. I cant wait to return!
Loved the house. Neighborhood was fine and public transportation was less than half a block away. The only drawbacks I have to say is that it was kind of weird when Sydney knocked on our door to see what our plans were for the day. She needed a ride to a festival. I understand asking a neighbor something like that, but seriously we were vacationing. Loved the home like feel to the place!
First..do not trust the pictures! The place is very old with beaten up furniture and old appliances. The main problem is filth! The bedroom has A LOTof crud built up on blinds, window AC, and ceiling fans! The crud also hangs from the bedroom ceiling! The sheets were over worn with fuzz balls on them and when pulled backed cover had hair in bed! They were all wrinkled like they had not been changed. Wanted to leave but stuck. It was miserable because would not turn on fan or AC unit in fear of the gunk blowing all over the place. These people should be ashamed to take people's money and allow people to stay in these conditions! The bath tub is an old tub with a handheld shower that you have to hold to bath unless you are 3 feet tall and the shower curtains are on both side and touch you when trying to shower. It was a terrible experience staying at this place and think it should not be allowed on this website! Once again the pictures DO NOT reflect the true appearance of this place. Renter beware! Finally owner never did return my call when trying to locate. Had to find it on my own from picture! Terrible!
My husband and I and our elderly dog stayed here for a week to celebrate our anniversary- it is wonderful! The apartment is well appointed with everything that we could have needed, clean and well maintained. The street is gorgeous and we enjoyed being so close to City Park. Absolutely would recommend this gem to anyone. We will definitely return!
I have stayed here twice and really like the location. Although I used to live Uptown and would typically stay Uptown when I would visit, once I stayed on Esplanade Ridge I was hooked. This property is in a great location for both private (if you drive) and public transportation to get around NOLA. Everything works in the apt. and it was great to have a W/D to cut down on what you need to bring when coming for a longer stay. I plan on staying here often.
Fantastic location. Charming property. What's not to love? My daughter and I spent four days exploring New Orleans via bicycle. Perfect Mid-City location is conveniently located within quick biking distance to City Park, French Quarter, Lake Front, Up Town, etc. One block from Esplanade, fresh with new bike lanes, it really is a perfect location. Sydney was lovely. A talented artist who was warm and welcoming. We will absolutely return!
We stayed at this rental for four nights in July of 2013. We found the property to be quite charming and quaint. We were in a perfect location for what we wanted. We were not right in the quarter, but were a close walk to catch the trolley there. The neighborhood was safe and quiet. The owner was nice and pleasant to speak with. Also her artwork on the walls were a beautiful touch. We took our two dogs and felt very comfortable with them there. I would definitely recommend this rental to anyone visiting the area.
My wife and dogs just returned from here today and it was a quiet quaint place to stay with the New Orleans feel. It had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and was well furnished. It has the old charm feel from the outside in. The back court yard was wonderful. It is in a very safe area of town. It is a 8 min drive to the French quarter. If you do not want to pay the parking garage prices in the French quarter, drive down Canal 2 blocks and there is a parking garage for $2.00 for 12 hours. From here catch the Trolley that runs to all connections via the trolley. It was great. Parking garages in the city run $10.00 per day and up! The trolley takes 15 min to get to the French quarter. City park is great and if you are an art lover is even better. Visit the sculpture garden and even plan making a picnic basket for lunch. This was a fantastic location and very centralized. Make sure you visit the De gas house and St. Louis Cemetary all just a short stroll. Syndey and Toto were most gracious host and she is a wonderful photographer. Her photos are currently on exhibit at the Jazz Hall of Fame and she is world renound artist. This was a treat to share her company. She was most kind to show us some of her work. When in New Orleans we have a new home. Thanks!
We had a great stay at this rental property ! It was conveniently located and the owner who lives in the front of the house is the best kept secret ! Syndy was a delight an made us feel all the more comfortable in the apt ! The beds were very comfortable and it had a great outdoor area for our dogs to get out alittle ! I would stay here anytime I'm in New Orleans

Comfy, cozy, charming, handy and affordable! Vacationed with our almost teen daughter and had so much fun in this wonderful city. Best aspects of apartment (in no particular order): 1) Very comfortable beds (even the sleeper--almost wanted to trade with my daughter!) 2) Beautiful houses and gardens in this neighborhood (not mansions like Garden District, but colorful and lovely) 3) Nice to have kitchen to cook occasionally. We mostly ate our way through New Orleans (including nearby Parkview Bakery for delicious poboys, Morning Call in City Park for beignets and cafe au lait in a much more relaxing setting than Cafe du Monde) but when we were feeling we needed more fresh veggies, we went to the Crescent City Farmer's Market on Tuesday a.m. and got some great bread, pesto and produce for a picnic at Audobon Park and later our one dinner cooked 'at home'. 4) Helpful to have washer/dryer--not used to humidity so sometimes felt good to change clothes after day's activities before going out at night, and being able to wash in middle of stay made that possible. 5) Location--can walk down Bayou St John to City Park, and easy driving to everywhere else. (Take Esplanade for beautiful shady drive to French Quarter.) 6) Wood floors & decor in apartment, in particular Syndey Byrd's photographs. (She was also kind enough to show us more of her photography next door, which was like having a private tour of a museum--what a treat!) Some highlights of things we did: -Different music every night: Preservation Hall (obvious, I know, but wouldn't have thought of going there with a child until Syndey suggested it--it's not a bar, it's all about the music), gospel concert at Ellis Marsalis Center, small festival 'Wednesdays on the Point' at Algiers with brass band and local fun cover band Bag of Donuts, and zydeco night at the Rock n Bowl! (We love to dance!) -Glassworks & Printmaking Studio and Mardi Gras World in Warehouse District (and ate at Cochon Butcher--yum) -City Park: wonderful art museum (NOMA), sculpture garden (we also love art!) and playgrounds -Latter Library in Uptown/Carrollton area, an architectural gem you can go into for free, on the St.Charles streetcar line. Tip: When we went to the aquarium, we parked off St. Charles and took streetcar instead of dealing with parking near aquarium/French Quarter. Stay here, keep the radio tuned to 90.7 WWOZ and you'll feel like a local.
The apartment was exactly as described and we enjoyed a comfortable stay. Easy access to main routes to both the Quarter and the City Park. Sydney was a pleasure to meet and her photography is awsome. She recommended the Parkway Bakery & Tavern for dinner and it was delicious.
The apartment was tastefully decorated with pleasing colors and beautiful floors. I really enjoyed having my morning coffee on the veranda and watching the birds playing in the water fountain. It was conveniently located and in a pleasant neighorhood. The reservation process was handled professionally and cordially. I would rent it again.
We had been to New Orleans many times but had always been centered in the French Quarter. We deliberately wanted to explore some of the city's other neighborhoods and this property was ideal. The Esplanade Heights neighborhood is well situated for exploration. We were never far from our destination, whether it be the Quarter, the Garden District or the river. The neighborhood had charming restaurants, a wine bar and a nice grocery. The apartment itself was lovely. The kitchen was well equipped, the living room was lovely. The bedroom was cozy but comfortable, and the little patio was charming. We had never shared a VRBO property with the owners before, but these owners were very courteous, providing us a welcome breakfast of juice and bagels. They afforded us our privacy. We loved it and will hope it is available again when we return to New Orleans.
