In the luscious garden of a gated home, in the middle of the city, across the splendid Coliseum Square and it’s waterfall lulling you to sleep lies this wonderful garden home. The owners, an artist couple, have carefully thought out every detail …
This quiet cottage for two was a great place for our get-away. With a full kitchen, we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast outdoors on comfortable furniture in the patio garden. New Orlean's nearby bus and trolley system allowed us to keep our car parked for our entire stay while we got around the city with ease. And our hosts went out of their way to make us comfortable and welcome. The art they created and placed on the walls and in the garden helped make this a lovely place inside and out.
My husband and I recently spent two weeks in the New Orleans area. Matilde’s studio served as a perfect launching point for our explorations. It’s location was perfect! The bus stop was right at the corner and the streetcar was two blocks away on St. Charles Street. Magazine Street with all it’s shops and restaurants was just a block away. With so many bars and restaurants within walking distance, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that the studio was on a very quiet residential street.
The studio itself was just as depicted in photos; clean, modern and artfully decorated.
It was large for a studio; plenty of room for 2 people. As we stayed for two weeks, we did do some of our own cooking and found the kitchen to be equipped with pots, pans, cookware, dinnerware, glassware and some spices. All the basics were covered.
The outdoor patio was large, quiet and private; tucked behind the main house. The weather was a little cool when we were there (beginning of February) so we didn’t make too much use of it, but I can imagine lazing back in one of those hammocks or under one of the umbrellas after a long day walking about the French Quarter.
Probably one of the best things about this property are the hostess and host, Matilde and Gustavo. They both went out of their way to make our first visit to New Orleans memorable. Our flight was delayed until late in the evening due to inclement weather and when I communicated this to Matilde she made sure that we had coffee, milk, bread, fruit, King cake and many other essentials for the next morning. Our luggage was delayed and they even offered to wait for it’s arrival so that we wouldn't miss out on one day of the NOLA experience. Matilde checked in with us every other day to see how things were going and she readily answered our texts when we had questions. We couldn’t have asked for anything more.
We would definitely return here on our next trip to New Orleans.
The cottage was cozy and charming, the hosts lovely. We were not able to use the outdoor space due to the weather, but it is very nicely done with tables, chairs and chimaera fire feature. A wonderful park across the street and a bus stop right at the corner for a quick ride to the Quarter. Located 1 block from great shops and restaurants on Magazine Street.
The cottage was private, well equipped, tastefully decorated, nicely maintained and blessedly sunny.
My husband and I stayed at this lovely studio while attending a conference in the business district. Although we found the walk a little long and used taxi's or the trolley to get to the conference, it was really lovely to come back to the peacefulness of the studio and the lower garden district. The studio was comfortable and had most everything you needed. The bathroom is small for two people trying to get ready but sufficient, and the water was hot and the pressure good. Matilde and her husband were very helpful, meeting us at the property and driving us to a restaurant for lunch when we arrived. The studio is close to a restaurants and shops and a coffee shop is just right around the corner. We would stay here again.
I was in NOLA for a convention in early December and staying at the studio/cottage owned by Matilde was perfect. The cottage had everything one needed, great wiFi connection, well appointed kitchen (although who cooks when you are in NOLA :)) The pictures on the VRBO page tell the story. The cottage is decorated with wonderful art work by the owners. Matilde is a gracious host, on arrival drove me to pick up some groceries. The next morning Matilde walked over to meet me, walked with me to show me the route to the convention centre and took me to a wonderful local market. The studio location was amazing, an easy walk to the convention centre and then you were in the beautiful lower Garden District. I did not see one tourist in the area, which is incredible because the convention I was attending had 22,000 people participating. There are fantastic restaurants close by, unique NOLA architecture in the district and Magazine street is a wonderful place to explore. I walked everywhere. If you feel you want to go to the French Quarter, it is a 25 minute walk or a an easy bus ride. I have been to NOLA before but the stay this time was made truly memorable and I will return for a holiday. Thanks Matilde!
In a really nice location in the Lower Garden District, the cottage is a simple, comfortable, one-room studio with all the amenities. A block away from the best coffee shop in the city, and two blocks from the best breakfast. The cottage shares a beautiful back patio with the main house; sitting out there, listening to the wind rustling the palm and orange trees, was s real treat.
Matilde (the owner) is wonderful, and made every effort to make us feel welcome and comfortable.
My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at this cottage for three nights. The property is situated in a lush garden setting. It was clean, decorated with beautiful works of art, and very comfortable. The owner was very accommodating, calling/texting to check in on how our vacation was going. My favorite attribute of this property is the location. It's located across from Coliseum Square, which was one of my favorite parks back when I lived in New Orleans. It's also very close to Magazine St, and all of the restaurants, bars, and boutiques that location offers. I would definitely recommend this property, and we look forward to returning for a more extended stay. BTW, this was my first experience using VRBO, and the whole experience was worthwhile, and exceeded our expectations!
We could not have asked for a more wonderful experience than we had staying here. The location is superb - we were able to go everywhere we wanted from the Arts District, French Quarter, Faubourg Marigny, and Garden District on foot or by streetcar. The condo itself is artistically appointed and very comfortable. The owners were fantastic hosts. We would absolutely stay here again.
My husband chose this property to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and to enjoy the Essence Music Festival events. Upon walking in, I felt like I was in a art museum. Beautiful paintings adorn the walls and eclectic lamps and furniture add the perfect touch. The owner of the condo was aware of our anniversary, and had champagne and glasses waiting for us on the table. Wow!
The location was wonderful! We were in walking distance to all the great eateries, art galleries, and entertainment.
We would definitely stay here again! This was truly a home away from home.
