We are time share owners/travellers who tried VRBO for the first time in order to get into a location my wife wanted to be in for her birthday. We chose Doug's home for the great price, convenient proximity to our day trip locations, and overall appearance & amenities. We also based alot of trust into everyone's positive comments and were not disappointed. We flew in late at night and Doug greeted us at the house and surprised us with a great bottle of wine and even a cake for my wife's birthday! After he showed us around, he turned the keys over to us and we went on to enjoy the next five days of our carefree vacation. We cannot give him enough kudos for his great communication before and after our stay as well as his hospitality upon our arrival. We don't get this kinda of quality of service at some of the best resorts we go to. We knew that if there was ever a question or problem, that he was only a phone call away. While we had our trip planned out pretty well, he offered up alot of resources and maps if we needed them. This was one of our best vacations! Great house and great host! We will definitely stay here again if we come back into the area. Thanks Doug!
Perfect place! Doug was a great host, giving us 2 bottles of wine (non-alc for kids), toured house so we knew everything, and checked in with us during the week. Beautiful home. Pictures don't show you enough! Gas stove, modern appliances and 2 baths, lots of kitchen needs supplied, extras in frig, comfy beds, extra pillows and towels, W/D, living room and family room with FP, garage parking, safe, quiet neighborhood, greenspace down street for kids-soccer, etc. Target, grocery nearby. Take Hwy 680 N for great views instead 880. Home was a good location to access E/W bay area. Back patio had flowers, hummingbirds, lots of seating, BBQ. Front patio larger than pictured, seating, and orange tree drops the best oranges I ever had! It was the best home for our needs. Never will stay at a hotel there. Definitely stay here! You will love it! Thank you Doug!
This is a house I would recommend without hesitation. It is exactly how Doug describes it and is shown in the pictures. It was extremely clean which is very important to my family and had every amenity I could think of and even had ones I didn't think of. Doug is reliable, attentive and a great person to work with. The house is in a good location. On our trip we went to Yosemite, Cambria, Santa Rosa and of course San Francisco, and all were in driving distance of the house. I don't know why anyone would choose a hotel room when you can rent this house for the same or less and have all the amenities of home. On the first night, Doug recommended the Black Bear Diner for dinner and the food was delicious. My family of five had plenty of room with the three bedrooms and two bathrooms. I can't say enough about this property. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the bay area and would return again if I was ever in the area. Thanks Doug for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Our daughter was scheduled to graduate from SJSU over Memorial Weekend. We have family in the Bay Area and the thought of celebrating in a crowded restaurant seemed impersonal, expensive and hectic. A place to be outside, have a BBQ or picnic, relax and have space to visit seemed ideal to mark the day. Someone suggested looking to VRBO for a place to stay as an option to a hotel. We would have accommodations AND a place to gather family to celebrate our daughter's achievement. Lo and behold we found Doug's house. It was everything we wanted and very affordable....a double bonus!
Doug's house is lovely. It is well maintained, comfortable furnishings, inviting courtyard and backyard, kitchen big enough to prepare meals for guests, and wonderful amenities. The photos do not lie and all looks exactly as it is portrayed. The house was VERY clean and the pantry well stocked. It is also a great location. We found ourselves very close to grocery stores, specialty shops, Costco & Target. Freeway access was simple and close. We could get to downtown San Jose in less than 10 minutes. My family lives on the Peninsula and they found the driving time to be under 30 minutes. The house is also well insulated from noise and temperature changes.
I highly recommend this house if you are looking to stay in the South Bay. Public transportation (BART) is also close to the north for day trips to San Francisco (though that was not on our agenda). On our arrival, Doug welcomed us at the house to give us a tour and explain some of the operations of lights, stereo, and TV's. He also welcomed us with a bottle of wine AND cupcakes with "Class of 2013" on them to mark our daughter's graduation. Very unexpected and very sweet. AND....to save us a trip to the train station at a time when commuter traffic would be peaking, he offered my brother-in-law, who had arrived in the area with us, a ride to Caltrain to get to his final destination.
We will definitely be back....especially given that we have one more attending SJSU and our graduate still living in the South Bay. The convenience, comfort and value cannot be beat. We will also be recommending this to others we know looking for a comfortable place to stay in the Bay Area. Thanks, Doug, for sharing this home with us and making us feel welcome. You have a lovely house that is obviously well cared for, and that you are committed to exceed the expectations of your guests
The other reviewers hit the nail on the head. This is a
five star place to stay. We would give it six stars if
allowed. We spent a few days more than two weeks at this home and we could not have been more comfortable. The house and property are in excellent shape and very very
charming. The owners make every aspect of the experience a pleasure. We would not hestitate to rent the property again. It could not have been more perfect. Highly recommended.
We had an excellent time at Doug's home. He thought of everything that we could possibly need and more. He provided laundry soap , toiletries, coffee everything. In addition we loved the fresh oranges off the tree we made Mimosas with the fresh orange juice and ate oranges everyday and they were so juicy and sweet. He even gave us a "welcome" bottle of wine. Doug called on the last day of our visit to make sure all was good and to see if there was anything he could do to improve on his rental. We told him everything was great and he goes above and beyond. THANK YOU Doug!! Vince Jen and Nate
Perfect in every way! The house felt like a real second home, not at all like temporary accommodation. Sitting areas were comfortable, as were the beds. There were plenty of dining settings, so we could invite family to join us for a meal and have enough knives, forks and glasses for all; and there were enough cooking utensils to cook a proper meal. Doug was a diligent host, giving us a conducted tour at the beginning and ensuring during our stay that everything was fine.
When our daughter, who is in training in the Army (Monterey) and hasn't been home for a year, said "Mom? I want to have a REAL Thanksgiving", I started looking for a way we could all be together AND cook. This house was perfect for that! We had absolutely everything we needed, from my full list of groceries waiting for our arrival to a beautifully decorated table and seating and place settings for 6, to all the fridge space we needed for leftovers to enjoy until they were gone. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect situation. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us, Mr. and Mrs. Devore. You helped us make it the best Thanksgiving ever for our soldier. We spent a lot of time doing dishes- the ONE thing I would say is that the water from the kitchen faucet gets too hot. We scalded our hands many times. Get in the habit of turning on the cold water WITH the hot water, if you're going to have your hands in it. :)
We spent two full weeks in the house. From the very first contact, by mail and phone, with Doug, the owner, we had all informations we wished to know. A fast and confident relationship. When we arrived, we were welcome as friends usually do. Doug and Ruth, were there, waiting for us, late in the evening, taking all time for introducing the place. We could not dream better house. Better than we expected. We appreciate every details. You can feel a real attention for making your stay the best possible. We wish to go back. We were sad to leave, as we adopted the house as ours. We Loved this house, my best friend from Boston and I (from Oregon) stayed there while in town for The Rock and Roll half marathon. The house was clean and lovely, and everything we could possibly need was there, it is out of the hustle and bustle, but a short drive to anywhere we wanted to go. I would stay there again without question.
Doug was very caring about making sure we had everything we needed and were comfortable, the personalized welcome and bottle of wine was a nice touch.
A couple of heads up that I would have found helpful, the shower in the master bath takes quite awhile to heat up, so be patient, once it does it's fine. Also the beds are very firm, which I was a bit taken back by as I have a fluffy pillow top at home, but I actually ended up really liking it.
If you spot a tiny rubber duckie anywhere, we left those behind to "mark our territory" so by all means keep the fun going by moving them around or adding to them.
We will definitely be back.
We had the pleasure of renting from Doug for a week while we were in the Bay Area visiting family and working. First of all, Doug is fantastic to work with. He was responsive and pleasant, two great traits in a "landlord!" Doug met us at the house on our check in day to walk us through and get us oriented. He also checked in the day before we were to leave to make sure we had everything we needed and to thank us for renting from him. He left a lovely note and a bottle of wine for us upon arrival and we really appreciated that there were plenty of staples in the house to enable us to truly live there for the week we were in town. The house itself is lovely and comfortable with well appointed bedrooms and bathrooms and the kitchen is fully stocked in every way. The neighborhood is quiet and well located to freeways for us to head out wherever we were going. I'm in the Bay Area a lot and look forward to renting from Doug again.
The owner was very hospitable. They ensured that every amentity was included. It truly was a home away from home. The owner provided little nuances that made us feel welcomed, starting with the welcome card and the bottle of Napa Valley wine. As an advent traveller I was able to quickly relax and rest. I attribute this to its charming atmosphere.
The owner Doug made sure we had everything we would possibly need to have a delightful stay. The attention to details upon our arrival was above and beyond any expectations one could ever have. Communication was easy and Doug was very responsive for our reservation. All emails were promptly responded to and phone calls were answered timely. The owner really pays attention to details in this home. The thank you card, city maps, use of a personal computer and bottle of wine upon our arrival were all very appreciated. The home is fully equipted with all the essentials. Beds were wonderfully comfortable and had high-end quality linens ensuring a good night's sleep. The large attached garage was so convenient. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and cook ware. The location is ideal as it is conveniently located to everything. The owner is very friendly. He has done a great job preparing this vacation home. It is evident that Doug made an effort to accomodate our family in all the details & thoughtful ways they prepared things for our stay.
