Nette Nachbarn, geschmackvolles Haus, nice area!
      We are six students who spend a lovely week in this house. Everything was in perfect order, and Teresa was always prepared to help us when necessary. So if you want a stressless vacation, and enjoy Lisbon for 100%, this house will certainly fit the bill!
      Teresa is a very good host. The house is complete and very clean. The upper sleeping floor is not very suitable for tall people as the ceiling is low. We can recommend this house.
      My husband and I, along with our four kids aged 4-12 stayed here on our first vist to Lisbon.The apartment was well located, very clean with comfy beds and soft cotton bed linens. Teresa, the owner is an absolute dream and was very helpful in helping us find our way around this dynamic city. We really enjoyed the flea market outside our door on Saturday. The subway is a small walk down the hill and we relied on public transportation the entire time we visited. The only people I would not recomend renting this apartment would be the elderly or people with tiny children as you need to use a spiral staircase to move from level to level ( my kids found it charming!) Don't forget to have the tartas de nata next to the Monisterio dos Jeronimos, visit the sunfish at the aquarium, eat grilled sardines, ride the 28 streetcar and take the funicular and Santa Justa elevador. Also, the exhibit in the garden of the City museum, with all the ceramic animals was one of our favorite surprises on our trip. We love Lisbon, Teresa and this house. Can´t wait to get back as soon as possible!

      Apartment in Lisbon 99 - Alfama - managed by travelingtolisbon
      Apartment 99 is a wonderful studio located on the fourth floor of a renewed ancient building (the same as numbers 98), at Alfama. The view you have from all the windows is so magnificent that you will feel like leaving in a tower on top of Lisbon.
      The apartment is a short walking distance from the other picturesque neighbourhoods of Baixa and Castle. Nearby you have all kinds of traditional commerce, bars and restaurants and access to the train to the beaches around Cascais (Cais do Sodré).
      There is a parking place at 10 minutes walking form the apartment at Largo das Portas do Sol.
      The apartment has 20 m2 but its smallness is not an issue because of the light and the views all around.
      It has been recently renovated to include the following:
      *
      studio with one double bed (145 cm wide) a sofa, Tv, DVD player and Hi-Fi;
      *
      a kitchenette with electric oven and stove, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, washing machine and dish washer;
      *
      a bathroom with shower.
      It has 2 roof windows, that, when opened, give the feeling of being on a terrace enjoying the sun and views of ancient Lisbon.
      It has air conditioned for cold and warm time.
      UMTS internet connection with USB plug can be provided upon request (10,00€/day).
      We will welcome you with a bottle of wine.

      There are several other apartmentsin Alfama, the medieval Moorish neighborhood where an emerging cosmopolitanism mixes with the “natives” day-to-day life. It is a village in the heart of the city, due to the fact that most of Alfama’s residents have lived here their entire lives and retain a strong sense of community.
      Alfama was first settled by the Romans and Visigoths and was an important Jewish neighbourhood in the 15th century, but it was the Moors who gave the district its atmosphere and name (al hamma means springs, a reference to the hot springs used as baths until the 17th century). It is crowned by São Jorge castle, which was built by the Visigoths in the 5th century and enlarged by the Moors in the 9th century.
      Be surprised by Alfama's narrow cobblestone alleyways, stairs and squares, built on a rock-hill that was responsible for its survival after the big 1755 earthquake that destroyed most of the medieval city. A walk through this old-fashioned residential neighbourhood is now a step back in time.
      It is an ideal place to explore hidden places, stunning views over the city, the river Tejo, restaurants, fado houses, or even to dance and eat sardines during the popular June festivals. Here you can find numerous little grocery shops, taverns and small restaurants - most having no more than 3 tables. At the edge of the Alfama, Lisbon's renowned flea market, the Feira da Ladra, is held in the Campo de Santa Clara every Tuesday and Saturday.
      Contrasting with these timeless images is a trendy modern development by the waterfront across from Santa Apolónia train station which houses stylish design shops, restaurants and bars. From here you can explore the rest of the city walking to the castle (S. Jorge) or to Baixa, Bairro Alto, Chiado or Santa Clara.
      If you decide to go up instead of going down, you will find an astonishing view of the city from Miradouro da Graça or from the one where is the church of St. Maria do Monte da Graça. You will also be able to visit a Spanish baroque style monastery S. Vicente de Fora (mark of the Spanish domination of Portugal until 1640).
      Came and see for yourself!
