LISBON'S HEART- 2 STUDIOS and 1 APARTMENT 2 ROOMS in a historical building

The studios are located in a historical building entirely restored (in and outside) of Alfama, a very romantic and interesting place in Lisbon's centre. This building belongs our family since the 19th century. These studios are very charming, quie …

We enjoyed our stay. The apartment was well equipped, charming, and in a great location. The apartment was close to the downtown activities but located back in the quaint streets so that noise was not a factor. The view from the balcony was the ocean in one direction and the mountains in the other. We appreciated the facility and will recommend to other travelers.
Carla was very nice with a lovely warm welcome with plenty of advice. The studio was lovely and clean and exactly as described. We stayed in no 15,ground floor. All the areas are easily accessible, wear good shoes. The train station/metro is less than 5 mins away, inside the station is the supermarket and tourist office(odd opening times). Plenty of local eateries in the area. The taxi from the airport to the bakery cost me 10 euros. When you arrive go upstairs to departures to get the taxis,no queues. We did the sightseeing tour of the city to get our bearings then did metro etc. The weather was great, the people very nice and the apartment was lovely and clean. Thanks Carla.
the apartment is in a lovely area - alfama is very picturesque and there are several eateries and a good pastry cafe within a 3-minute walk. the city centre is an easy 20-25 minute walk (mostly downhill), and the apartment is near the 28 tram and the metro. Be aware that the building is accessed via a long flight of steps and it is very hilly in the area - not suitable for the mobility-impaired or for those with very small children. We stayed in the ground floor studio, which was well-equipped, though quite small, as you would expect. We found the bed and pillows very hard, and the bathroom is a little dated, but otherwise we were happy with the place. It was very good value for what we paid. the owner is incredibly nice and welcoming, and gave us loads of useful information and a bottle of wine on arrival!
The apartment in Alfama was really nice. It was exactly what we wanted.Clean, bright, comfortable, and in a very historic part of Lisbon. It was near the combined train/metro station, which was very handy.. A bakery at the bottom of the steps, for our breakfast rolls and all. I would certainly recommend it to my friends or anyone else.
This apartment is clean, well equipment in a perfect location in Alfama close to all the Fado clubs & restaurants and main sites. The host Mrs. Carla is a generous women speaks very good English / French and she is a good adviser. We could not wish for our selves a better place for our week in Lisbon. We highly recommend. We spent 6 days in this apartment, everything was ok. Comfortable furnuture, well equipped kitchen, nice view. Thanks Carla for hospitality.
lovely rental for couple, gorgeous outside area to have breakfast in mornings or dinner in evening. studio had everything we needed and was as described, clean and tidy, owner made sure the cleaner was there to greet us on arrival and tell us what we needed to know. Staying in Alfama you get chance to see part of Lisbon that seemed to us at least very unique, lovely cafes and restaurants nearby, flea market is a must on saturdays and relaxing while looking out over lisbon from the miradouro at Graca is lovely. cafe cruzes nearby is gorgeous and chapitos does beautiful steak!

Viewpoint in Alfama Alfama is Lisbon's most emblematic quarter and one of the most rewarding for walkers and photographers thanks to its medieval alleys and outstanding views.

Because its foundation is dense bedrock, it survived the 1755 earthquake, and a walk through this old-fashioned residential neighborhood is now a step back in time. It is a village within a city still made up of narrow streets, tiny squares, churches, and whitewashed houses with tile panels and wrought-iron balconies adorned with pots of flowers, drying laundry, and caged birds.

It was settled by the Romans and Visigoths (it was also an important Jewish quarter in the 15th century), but it was the Moors who gave the district its atmosphere and name (alhama means springs or bath, a reference to the hot springs found in the area). They were also responsible for its web of streets created as a defense system, while at the same time enabling their homes to remain cool in the summer.

Alfama alley Most of the older residents have lived here all their lives and retain a strong sense of community, although their rent-controlled homes are now dilapidated, and an increasing number of wealthier people are investing in their properties and moving in.
Alfama has influenced poets and novelists, and although Bairro Alto is the city's traditional Fado quarter, it is Alfama that has always been the inspiration for Fado songs, and is becoming just as popular with Fado Houses.

The district has an intangible quality that needs to be experienced to be truly appreciated, and the best way to get to know it is to get a little lost (something almost impossible to avoid), and wander around admiring the postcard-perfect views, visiting the churches, and walking up to the castle for the most breathtaking panorama of the city and the greatest sunsets.

Contrasting with these timeless images is a trendy modern development by the waterfront across from Santa Apolonia train station. It houses stylish design shops, restaurants, and one of Europe's top clubs, "Lux."
