Lovely Farmhouse, parking, near hospitals, public transport
Rent an entire home for the cost of an apartment! Charming sunlight-filled c.1835 renovated farmhouse, located on a quiet street near the heart of Jamaica Plain, one of Boston's most popular neighborhoods. The home is well located near Longwood …
Very enjoyable stay in this nice, refurbished farmhouse! Comfortable and well stocked with kitchen needs, baby accessories, games and much more. We enjoyed our walks through the park to the public transportation stop.
One thing I wish I had kown before renting is that both bedrooms are on the second floor and none on the first. It was not problematic, just inconvient. Otherwise a very nice place to stay.
Our stay at this place had both positive and negative experiences. The place is located in a nice area with easily accessible restaurants. The onsite parking is nice though I noticed a fair amount of available street parking while we were there. It is about 10 minute drive to downtown Boston which was extremely convenient. The house is a quaint little old farm house, thus expect some of the oldness with it, like slopping floors etc. It is very quiet. Meg, the owner does a nice job at decorating the place and if you have young kids, she does have a fair number of accessories for them such as playpen, portable high chairs, child proof socket plugs, etc.
Our biggest disappointment with this place however is the property manager. She was extremely rude and unprofessional. We were told to contact her for needs regarding our stay but she got testy because we had called her on a Sunday morning. She was also unsympathetic when one of the problems I related to her was one of the guest beds had broken. She merely dismissed that complaint and told our friend to sleep in the other bed, without showing even a bit of concern. Worst of all, she even showed up at the house later to continue to be rude to the point of insulting me and my family.
Meg the owner was really good to work with and I would recommend this place only if you interact with Meg and not the property manager, unless she has a new one.
Great home for a family vacation! We were two couples with two children and the house was sufficiently large. The house and property were exactly as described, incredibly clean and well maintained. The baby gates and high chairs were greatly appreciated as we did not have to worry about bringing our own. Off street parking for two vehicles was also a HUGE bonus for our two families! Home is situated in a beautiful neighbourhood with easy access to public transportation. Meg, the owner, was quick to respond to emails and made planning our stay incredibly easy by providing lots of information about the neighbourhood and making plenty of suggestions of places to visit and shop. Without any hesitation, we would recommend this property. In fact, we are already looking forward to our next visit.
Lovely house, quiet, clean and comfortable. Ideally located for the 15 min train journey into Boston and enough shops and restaurants locally. Had a very enjoyable time here with our daughter and son-in-law. Our daughter arrange the booking for all of us. The house contained everything you could need, Wi-Fi was a great bonus. The only complaint I would make is that the step in the kitchen is rather dangerous, we all tripped up on it at least once while there. I fell quite badly hitting my head on the wall and spent the whole time in Boston with 2 black eyes.
We were originally a party of five (my husband and I and our three kids ages 12, 10 and 7) when we booked, which turned into a party of seven when my parents joined us. Enough room for all of us with the airbed. The two full bathrooms were a great asset and a well-thought out addition to the house. The "great room" was great -- very spacious with lots of natural light. The house was also neat, clean and well-maintained, which means a lot coming from me as I am a stickler for cleanliness. Access to the "T" was easy -- even my seven year-old had figured out the path to the "orange line" by the end of our first day. We did not spend a lot of time at the house itself or in the JP neighborhoods as we had lots of activities in the city, but it was certainly nice to settle down there after a busy, tiring day. Jamaica Pond was a great place for jogging and fishing. Our family had an enjoyable and memorable time -- my kids were definitely a bit sad to leave the "farmhouse" and kept asking if we could come back sometime. Thank you for making your house accessible to us!
Beautiful place in JP with access to all JP has to offer with short commutes to Brookline and downtown. Great back yard and parking. Very quiet and very clean! We will definitely be back!
Renting a home for a vacation can often be a daunting task - filtering through all of the options trying to find the best accommodations at the most affordable price. Well, hopefully this review will help you narrow down your choices more quickly and get you in the right vacation home for your stay. Meg's home was perfect for us. It's in a quiet neighborhood, affording us wonderfully restful nights. It is located just a short walk to the T, affording us easy access to transportation. It is close to "town." We walked to breakfast at Fiore's and City Seed and Feed, meandering home along the neighborhood streets enjoying the views. It is very clean and has all of the amenities. When we needed help understanding how to use the remote, Donna, Meg's property manager, was immediately responsive and very helpful. Furthermore, it was a pleasure communicating with Meg through the whole rental process, before and after our stay. When we return to Boston we will be staying here again.
Meg's house is a great, comfortable space in a wonderful location. Prior to the stay, she was very responsive to my questions and very flexible on the conditions of the stay; she is a great owner and I would recommend everyone to rent from her. The overall property was very nice with a great backyard and updated rooms throughout. We traveled with our baby and found it to be a great rental for all of us. For those who do end up renting this location, do make a trip to Ula Cafe and grab some popovers - they are delicious.
This is a wonderful house, very clean and full of character. The sunroom in the back has been added recently, and the kitchen has been upgraded. The beds were comfortable, and the house is an easy walk to the beautiful arboretum where we spent an entire day. JP Licks is also within walking distance and has great ice cream. The back yard is nice, and there is a walking/biking trail that you can see from the porch. There are several markets nearby, and a Whole Foods down the road. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again.
We had a lovely stay here. The house is very comfortable and has all the special touches of home. The owner was very personable and provided detailed information on the home, the neighborhood and greater Boston. The home is convenient to the neighborhood shopping area and with easy access to the T the rest of Boston is just a short subway ride away. It is a great home if you are traveling with children. There are playgrounds, eateries and a grocery store within a short walk. It would be a pleasure to stay here again.
We can't stop raving about 38 Lee St! It was extremely clean, very inviting and soooo cozy! The cute yellow house has lots of quaint additions and was a blessing to be able to come back to every night.
We didn't have a chance to explore the area extensively but the neighbours are friendly and the area is very welcoming. The property manager lives around the corner and was quickly able to help us with the few questions we had.
Thanks again Meg for everything!
We came as a family for a Boston wedding, which included two small children, and found the house to have the comfort and amenities we were looking for. The kitchen was well equiped and the bed/baths were very nice. There was parking and a backyard which we played in. We enjoyed staying here and would recommend it for anyone looking for a family-home type accomodation. We were able to walk to the T in about 10 minutes and get anywhere we needed to in Boston. I recommend walking to the Arnold Arburetum, it is just beautiful for walking or jogging. We were happy to find a Whole Foods nearby as well as the St. James' Pub down the street.
Our family of 5 plus our parents (total of 7) thoroughly enjoyed our yellow home away from home. There was ample space in the house for two families to not feel like you were on top of one another the entire week. Meg has the house nicely decorated and well stocked for in home meals if you like. My children enjoyed the back yard and neighbor children...neighbors were very friendly. The washer and dryer was extremely helpful for light packing on a lengthy trip. The walk to the subway was less than 1/2 mile and we felt very safe walking home even late in the evening. Bostonians were very kind to our family on the subway all week...often surrendering their seats to my Mom and children. I give Meg and her home a beaming 5 stars so long as it doesn't interfere with myself having an opportunity to book again in the future should we decide to visit Boston again.
