Charming apartment in the heart of the picturesque Centro Storicos Tivoli
Gallicano nel Lazio
It is on the second and top floor of an ancient palace in the Via del Riserraglio characteristic, and thus one of the oldest Tivoli. Here was the forum in ancient Rome, the Middle Ages flourished arts and crafts and the artists of the Qatari settl …
This beautifully cared for apartment is ideally situated in the village of Tivoli: the view of the valley from the rooftop terrace is spectacular at sunset, there are numerous tourist sites as well as a nature reserve with walking trails in the village itself, and Rome is a simple train ride away. A family of four, with two teenagers, the apartment provided plenty of room for everyone to have their own space (the loft was loved). The apartment was well supplied, including the kitchen for those who enjoy making their own meals, which we do. The medieval theme throughout created an ambience and demonstrates the owners' attention to detail that is in evidence the moment you step through the door. In fact, the only thing that surpasses the apartment and its location are the owners. The in-clearing briefing was comprehensive and informative, supported by materials left on-sight; they have arrangements with local businesses and tourism to provide discounts to their guests; and if there is the slightest question or concern about the apartment or things to see/do, they are very responsive and helpful. We were incredibly happy with our stay here and the only regret was of our eight weeks in Italy, only three were spent here.
Excellent welcome and information from Alessandra, who could not have been more helpful. Beautiful decor and well equipt, with lovely roof terrace. Would recommend to others.
So much to do in a Tivoli, and excellent restaurants.
The apartment was stunning, decorated in medieval style, but with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Admittedly, you have to walk up four floors of an old Tivolian building but it is worth every step. The views were wonderful and at night there was a little tinkling fountain in the square below. The Church bells are beautiful too.
Alessandra and Diego would not let us walk the ten minutes from the station to the apartment, but insisted on giving us a lift. They were both charming people, showed us the ropes and pointed out literature in the apartment to help us make the most of our stay, and then left us to ourselves.
There are supermarkets, bakeries and the town itself within a few minutes walk through old cobbled streets, with lots to explore and enjoy. There are cafes and restaurants of every kind, ranging from the cheap and cheerful to sophisticated and expensive.
We visited Villa d'Este and it did not disappoint. The house was amazing but the gardens and the fountains were magnificent. We spent the best part of a day there - and it is within walking distance of the apartment. We also visited Villa Gregoriana, which is just as amazing but quite different. Ruins are all that remain of the villa, but you walk into a valley and up the other side (2 hours ambling comfortably in sensible shoes - not sandals!), seeing waterfalls and beautiful views from different angles. Villa Gregoriana is also walking distance, so you really don't need to hire a car.
Tivoli is only an hour away from Rome by train. We had visited Rome before so we chose to spend our week just exploring Tivoli. Some days we just walked, and it is surprising how time slows down and you just soak up the atmosphere of the beautiful town, which was built before Rome.
We would recommend this characterful apartment to any able bodied person and believe that nobody would go home without being touched by the timeless beauty of Tivoli.
