Everything you need is in this compact two-level apartment on the first level of a vintage building. A queen-size bed that rolls out from under the upper level dining area, bamboo hardwood floors, a marble bathroom, a kitchen lined with subway ti …
Everything was as described. Did not get to meet the owner, but did have phone contact. The refrigerator was abundantly stocked, the coffee grinder and maker were the only things used. The low bed was a problem for my arthritic condition, yet it was comfortable. Have already recommended to relatives.
Let me start by saying this place is awesome. The only reason it's not getting a perfect score from me is because of a lack of communication between the owner and myself, which I'll briefly explain.
I paid for the rental in full on the Wednesday morning before my Saturday arrival. After getting a receipt for my payment from VRBO, I never got an email or call from the owner June. I emailed twice and called, but no response. Upon landing in Chicago, I had no address or instructions, or conformation that I had a roof over my head. It took a 40 minute phone call with VRBO customer service to get in touch with June. Her response was that Friday was a holiday, she had seen my urgent email but doesn't respond to email on weekends, and she doesn't answer calls from "private" numbers. I rent through VRBO very regularly, and this has never happened to me before. I should have gotten an email or call Wed, Thurs, or even Friday before sundown to accommodate her holiday. When I expressed my frustration about landing in a city with no place to go, she apologized in a cursory manner.
Judging from the other 12 reviews, I'm sure this was an isolated incident and June is on site, so if you need anything, she's close by. When it comes to amenities, this place has everything...and then some. This studio was one of the most well appointed property rentals I've stayed at...it's like house sitting for a cool friend. It feels much bigger in person than it looks in photographs.
If June'll have me, I'd be happy to stay in this property again, and after our tiff, I doubt she'll ever make that mistake again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay In this lovely neighbourhood while we explored the city. The only "con" was the weak Wi-Fi signal which did not allow us to connect on a regular or reliable basis. Other than that, the suite was ideal for our purposes. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay.
This studio worked perfectly for our weekend getaway to Chicago. The owners are delightful. The studio is equipped with all of the necessities--kitchen utensils, an iron, extra blankets, and wifi, and there was even coffee and fruit for our first morning. The owners designed and built this studio themselves, and it is cute and functional. The building is about a 15 minute walk from the nearest "L" station, but there are closer bus stops. We were able to catch cabs easily at the "L" station on the evenings when we did not want to walk back to the studio.
We spent two nights in June's studio apartment and it fit our needs perfectly. The apartment is a fun and very functional space, new, clean and well-organized for a traveler. Even though it is a studio, the layout and two levels make it seem bigger. We bought a few groceries at nearby Dominick's and had coffee and breakfast both mornings in the apartment. The location is great, in a lovely neighborhood just 12 jogging minutes to Lake Michigan. Street parking was always available close by. Although I didn't personally meet June, she called me prior to our trip to confirm details, and was always responsive to my emails. We have stayed at quite a few VRBOs in the Chicago area, and this was definitely makes the list for a repeat visit.
I stayed at this property for two days at the end of May 2013 while I looked for a new apartment. (I was in the process of relocating to Chicago from Utah.) My stay here was really pleasant, the space was more than big enough for me, so I think 2-3 people max would also find it comfortable.
June, the owner of the property, was very cordial in our email correspondence, even more so when we met when I arrived. She also was nice enough to let me know I could check-out a little later if needed, as the cleaning people were not going to arrive until 12. The studio was clean, comfortable and inviting.
Inside, I had everything I needed: towels, blowdryer and new bar of soap and shampoo. Coffee, milk and a few mini muffins were also provided, which was nice since there isn't a store or coffee shop within a block. You do have to walk a few blocks to get to the nearest store, as the property is in a residential area. The Morse L stop is within walking distance, but give yourself plenty of time to walk, maybe about 20-25 min. There is a bus stop about two blocks away though, if you prefer.
Overall, I had a great stay and I would stay here again or recommend it to others. June was great, very easy to work with.
The studio was as promised and the owner was quite welcoming and hospitable. She could not have been more helpful with each/any request. Everything was in order and the location is in a lovely part of Chicago, one mile from our relative's home in the Rogers Park area. We would recommend this place to anyone needing a "home away from home" north of downtown Chicago. Our main problem was parking and that is a common problem in that area. We visited the High Ridge YMCA several times during our 16 day stay, as well as the Frank Lloyd Wright studio/home and walking tour in Oak Park. Leona's Restaurant on Sheridan is a family favorite with a room especially devoted for kids playing. Try The Original Pancake House in Willmet and The Mayne Stage on Morse.
I have to say that for my daughter and I to take a vacation to Chicago during the coldest part of the year, June "warmed" our time spent there. She was there to greet us, having left us fruit, eggs, bagels and muffins - what a welcoming and wonderful way to start our visit. She then took us for a tour (via her car) of areas close to the apartment and even dropped us off for groceries, and then came and picked us up when we were finished. We could not have asked for anything more to make us feel at home in this cute and well furnished apartment. We did not rent a car, but June can provide a # for the CTA metro system. Simply call the # and give them where you want to go, from point A to B, and they will give you clear consice directions. We bought a $28, 7 Day Metro pass and found that we could go anywhere in Chicago that we desired, transferring from busses to trains - on and off all day. We experienced warm, cold, rainy, snowy and very cold days, but we hit the city daily taking in everything that time would allow. Thanks to June, we had a wonderful week long vacation in a terrific apartment.
I stayed in Chicago for 2 weeks and this place was my home during my stay. It was really easy to call it home - it was a beautiful and cosy place. It has everything you need.
It is a relatively quiet residential neighbourhood. I went out running on several evenings. It seemed very safe. There is a supermarket a few blocks away so it was really easy to get groceries and other necessary items.
On most days I took the Metra train downtown. There is about a 10 minute walk to the station.
The owner was very helpful.
My only worry was the wireless internet which had a very weak signal.
This one bedroom space was exactly as advertised. The pictures are very accurate and it is a comfortable, cute space to rent, especially for 2 travelers. The apartment was clean and well kept. I missed having a t.v. there as I like to watch the news to stay informed, but overall, it was a very nice place to stay and I would stay there again!
My husband and I went to Chicago for the weekend and stayed at this property, and loved every minute of it!! The condo was the perfect size for the two of us and was in a great location. It was away from the heart of the city, but in a very friendly neighborhood with plenty to keep you busy. June, the owner of the property was awesome. She was always available if needed and didn't leave anything to chance. She really made you feel welcomed and made the place a real home away from home. I will NEVER stay anywhere else in Chicago :).
My husband and I crashed at this comfortable condo for two nights on our way through Chicago. It was a nice distance away from the city (25-minute drive in low traffic), so we had privacy and street parking. The high ceilings made the space seem expansive, and a stage helped break the room into two living areas. The marble bathroom is very nice, and the water pressure from the shower was nicer than some vacation rentals we've stayed in.
We had a wonderful summer breakfast in the shady backyard garden. Our food was purchased from a nearby farmer's market that had sausages and eggs (along with many varieties of bread and veggies). We wished we'd purchased cooking oil. If you don't, be prepared for fat-free cooking (poaching, boiling, baking). If cooking isn't your thing, we recommend nearby Fornello's Italian restaurant for a nice dinner (~$15 per entree).
The lake is nearby, too, with a public beach right by Loyola. We spent the day at the field museum and downtown on the miracle mile shopping around.
The VRBO listing was accurate, and the rental property owner, June, was available and responsive. The photos accurately represent the place. I would have given this place a five-star rating if the toiletries and breakfast provisions were any fancier. I have been spoiled in the past by full bottles of lavender shampoo, conditioner, and lotions, as well as quarts of organic half&half and a dozen free-range eggs. For the price (100/night at the time of this review), however, this vacation rental fits the bill.
I like this apartment because it was exactly as described in the listing and it was perfect for my exploring of the architectural highlights in Chicago and the surroundings. But the best was the warm welcome and cordially support from the owner, June. Thank you, one more time, June!
I look forward to visit Chicago and June again....
Thank you for the opportunity to stay at your lovely studio! The ground-floor studio was well-stocked with towels, toiletries, and even coffee set up ready-to-go in the kitchen! The studio is large and the bed comfortable. Walking distance to the grocery, although farther from the Red Line than we would have hoped. Our hostess welcomed us the afternoon we got there and was very kind and responsive. A very nice experience.
My wife and I had a great time staying in this apartment. It was cold outside, but we were toasty warm inside. It was convenient to the bus and train. June was a wonderful hostess and was very responsive to all of our needs. We had no trouble finding a parking spot, but we mostly used public transportation. We will stay there again on our next trip to Chicago.
Also-a couple of special nice touches were that June provided some grocery essentials. This was so helpful because we got in late - too tired for shopping. Lastly, June provided a whole library of books and we especially enjoyed those about Chicago.
