Whidbey Island-Delightful Country Homestead Cottage
Thinking about a vacation rental on South Whidbey Island? Welcome to our homestead flower farm!
Our cottage is located on Maxwelton Road in the beautiful Maxwelton Valley, 2 miles from Maxwelton beach and close to artsy Langley. This area is on …
If you are looking for a quiet, secluded getaway cabin on south Whidbey Island, put this cabin on your list. Cozy, comfortable and convenient, this small cabin offers a full kitchen and big open living room / bedroom (separated by a small screen to afford some privacy), and small bathroom with a shower.
If you are there during cooler weather, be prepared to start a fire in the wood stove, as the two electric radiator heaters provided will take a while to heat the space by themselves. But that will only add to the rustic country charm of this place, as you practice your boy scout (or girl scout) skills of fire starting!
As far as access to the rest of the island, you are just off a main road for a 10-minute trip into the quaint town of Langley which features great restaurants for your dining pleasure, coffee shops and bakeries, some interesting stores, a book store and even a theater for seeing a movie.
And the main Island highway, 525, is also close at hand in case you want to travel north to Freeland, Coupeville or Oak Harbor. Driving any roads on Whidbey will bring you scenery that will restore your soul, so you should definitely consider the Cedar Moon Cabin for your stay on the Island, if you are looking for a great escape!
Go! Enjoy! Relax! You won't regret it!
My daughter and I had a wonderful time at Ceder Moon Cottage. It had everything we needed for a great get away. Kathryn was very helpful and friendly in communicating and was willing to do anything to make our stay comfortable. The location is extremely quiet and beautiful....we had fun wandering the grounds and looking at the vegetable garden and flowers. Sunny the dog is friendly and welcoming. :) The cottage is decorated with taste, comfortable and very clean with a well stocked kitchen. Especially appreciated a nice cozy bed at the end of a long day of hiking. We really had everything we needed. We would highly recommend this cottage and will be back again. Thank you Kathryn!!!
Very comfortable cabin with everything one could possibly need. Slept like a rock! I would definitely stay here again!
Lovely, in every way. Owner was extremely responsive to our requests--although we didn't have many, since the cottage has pretty much everything we needed. Privacy, quiet, small but very functional kitchen, beautiful trees, comfy bed, easy access to beaches (a couple of miles)--and a friendly golden retriever! We plan to return!
This private, spacious and incredibly hip cottage has not been done justice in the pictures. It is comfortable, clean and beautiful. Also, don't let the price fool you; the cottage is stunning with large windows, a skylight and surrounded by rich greenery. I absolutely fell in love with our "home" for 5 nights. The comfortable sleeping area is tastefully separated by a divider for privacy. We woke each morning feeling refreshed and energized. The kitchen was just big enough to comfortably cook (we went out), and has a charming table that could easily seat six. There was a great binder filled with suggestions and island history we enjoyed looking through. We had privacy but were close enough to the owners house to walk over if we had any problems (we didn't). I We also loved the finishing touch of having a phone in the cottage, complete with a phone number and and answering machine. We also requested wi-fi and they opened that up to us as well for no additional charge. The cottage is huge! For less than the price of a decent hotel room we got space, comfort and privacy, not to mention a perfect wooded location off the main road. Staying at this cottage made me long for the time I spent as a resident of the island in my childhood. It was difficult to leave! Next time we know to plan for a much longer trip, and know also the perfect place to stay. If 6 stars were available, this cottage would get it. Don't pass this one up; it is a definite keeper!
This cottage is quite the find. It's serene, fresh and clean (no funny smells) thoughtfully arranged and supplied, cozy and spacious with high ceilings and lots of windows and skylights to bring in the natural light. It's perfect as a base for exploring the area (Kathryn provides a great list of favorite local spots to check out), and it's perfect for a personal retreat as well. Bring your own food, your art, your writing, your reading, and you'll have no need to leave this happy, comfortable, private, light-filled haven. The queen bed is warm and very comfortable. The shower is walk-in, no tub. The cottage sits about 50 yards off the road, between the road and the owner's home on their lovely flower farm property which you are free to roam. The owners are friendly and very available to you if you have questions or requests, and they will leave you to yourself if it's solitude you're after. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Don't let the pictures fool you.... This cottage is really clean, quiet, private and comfortable for 2 adults and a big dog to stay for 4 days. Downtown Langley was only 10min away, Double Bluff Beach was just 10-15min away - the location was perfect too. We cannot wait to go back to the cabin!
My friend and I rented the cabin to stay in for the weekend of a wedding of a friend of mine. It was perfect as it was super close to the wedding site ( Fireseed Catering) and was a nice comfortable place to sleep and use as a base for exploring the area. Langley is a very nice quiet town with some interesting shops and pretty views. We ate breakfast at Niel's Four Clovers Cafe, the waitstaff were very friendly and the food was tasty. Kathryn was very helpful with giving us ideas of things we could do when we had a few hours before the wedding.
The cabin was very clean and everything was there we needed. Our hosts were available if needed. We would recommend this property and use again on a future trip.
This was a perfect home base for several days of hiking and adventuring both on Whidbey as well as excursions to the mainland. Since it rained most of the time we were there, the cottage presented a warm and welcoming refuge when we returned each night drenched from a day spent playing outdoors. Kathryn was more than accommodating of our last minute seat of the pants schedule changes.
All of the previous reviews are accurate in their well founded praise of Cedar Moon Cottage. The price is actually comparable to staying in a motel room, but what you get for the money is oh so much more--like a real home! Quite simply--we loved it.
Don’t let the price make you think this is some substandard shack. This is a fantastic place to spend a day or a month, well worth the $150/night other places charge: lots of room, many windows to view the forest, original wooden floor in the kitchen and new carpet in the rest, pine wainscoting throughout, a glass-door wood stove with all wood you need provided, TV with several dozen videos, a super-comfy 4-poster bed (plus foldout, foam mattress, and sectional couch if you want to fall asleep by the fire), and much more. The full new kitchen with table and benches is walled off, but not to the ceiling, so you can still have a conversation with someone in the living room while you’re cooking. The new bathroom is small but cute. The 1-room layout means you're always connected, not hiding in separate rooms. The electric heaters were on and the fireplace ready to light when we arrived (though they even offered to have it going before we arrived). This is the original property homestead of seven kids plus parents, and now a wonderful cottage. The owners in the adjacent home gave us all the privacy we wanted but were available and fun to talk to when we had questions. Our dog ran herself ragged with Sunny, the friendly onsite Golden Retriever. This cottage is away from the noise and hustle of downtown and beachfront, but only minutes from either. The owners provided a great list of nearby things to see and do. Highly recommend; would buy it if we could! Eric and Krista M.

Small Private Whidbey Island House
Welcome to this Small Private Whidbey Island Home!
This one is set near the Cottage that is also listed with this web site.
It is set among the trees on 3 acres on beautiful Whidbey Island, 2 miles from the town of Freeland (Antique stores, grocery store, post office, etc., etc.). About 5 miles from my favorite beach"Double Bluff" that holds stunning views of the Cascade Mountains, Mt. Rainier, and the Olympic Mountains with miles of walking.
The Small House is a cozy light filled and airy space with its many windows and skylights. It is meant to be an adult getaway.
The bedroom has opening windows and a skylight over the bed for a more spacious feel and to look at the stars; it has the feeling like you are sleeping in a tree (website hidden) has a comfy queen size bed and a writing desk and chair. There is plenty of closet space in case you decide to stay longer.
The regular sized kitchen is equipped with a large fridge, a gas range, a toaster oven, a coffee maker, a toaster, an electric tea kettle, all the dishes and basic condiments (salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, sugar, tea, coffee). It has a granite and a butcher top counter.
There are colorful Italian tile in the shower, and dark green with gold flecks “Ubatuba” granite on the bathroom floor.
In the living room, you may lounge on the inviting 16 foot window bench seat to take in the open forest view through the 13' window, or enjoy the WiFi to write those long due letters on your computer.
Have your morning breakfast in the sun room or on the spacious deck and listen to the birds.
Either way, this super quiet romantic place for two will leave you nurtured and nourished by its splendid green views and quiet nature surrounds.
I love how quiet it is here, and how dark it gets at night because we are far away from city lights. Each neighbor has 3 to 5 acres of property, and from mine I can see a little bit of the home of one of them.
I like that it is only about 2 miles to Freeland where I can find the grocery store and post office as well as some stores for treasure hunting or a cafe to sip coffee in on a rainy day.
In August of 1996 I found this lovely property, that before me was owned by Jim, a literal hermit.
Jim hand dug the 300' drive way, he build the Sears kit home, he knew the deer by generation, and he never cut a tree; he burned presto logs. Jim lived there since 1963 until his death in 1995.
Since then, I brought in power and telephone, added the bedroom and sun room as well as the decks, and totally re-did the inside of this home, and created several gardens.
I shall always be grateful to Jim, for having set up this property in such a wonderful way.
(And please: do read the house rules! That way there are no surprises for you.)
