About the home:
Deep in the centre of Paris, Rue Monsieur le Prince sits in a blessed spot, just moments from the magnificent Jardin du Luxembourg. Turn the corner, pass through a pretty courtyard and you’ll find your new home, a venerable apartment built in 1830. There’s a real grandeur to these large rooms, with their beams, their tall windows and exquisite antiques. In fact, it’s hard to believe that the last bricks were being put into place even as the streets seethed with anarchy. Now, the pavement below is as calm as can be, but look just a little further for the lively cafes in which the excitement first began.
Your hosts’ hail from Nantes. A distinguished pair, they purchased their Paris apartment in 1966. Since then, they’ve cherished their time in its charming rooms, almost as much as they have adored evenings out in the restaurants of nearby Saint-Germain.
On the second floor behind balconies of twirling wrought iron, the sitting room lies resplendent beneath bands of aged wood. There’s an original fireplace, and enough elegantly turned chairs to leave you comfortable, yet uncrowded.
Much of the furniture is as old as the apartment, and every piece, from the bedroom bureau to the hall’s chaise longue, is exquisitely lovely. And while the two bedrooms are as traditional as the rest of this home, the kitchen is an all-together more modern affair, proving that, even here, the future is hammering at the gate.
