    Description

    Villa Terrier is a grand old chalet built in 1910, Vintage Chamonix Chic. Over the years we’ve discretely replaced some of the old bits with new bits (for example the entire kitchen in 2011) and the result is a stunning haven just minutes from the centre of Chamonix, with an incredible Mont Blanc view.
    It’s a place that will beguile you with its classic elegance. The venue for sophisticated soirées and society events during the 1924 Winter Olympics, it still exudes an atmosphere of opulence. Combine this with Collineige service and cuisine and you are assured of an exquisite holiday. The bathrooms are something else – some would like to accommodate a family of four in rooms of this size, but not us. Enjoy a leisurely soak in the claw footed bath after relaxing in the sauna, or if you’re here in the summer a gentle swim in the pool with a view. Heavenly.

      ***Area description:
      Les Portes du Soleil is a major skisports destination in the Alps, encompassing thirteen resorts between Mont Blanc in France and Lake Geneva in Switzerland. With more than 650 km of marked pistes and about 200 lifts in total, spread over 14 valleys and about 400 square miles (1036 square km) Portes du Soleil ranks among the two largest skiareas in the world (the other being Les Trois Vallees). Almost all of the pistes are connected by lifts - only a few marginal towns can only be reached by the free bus services in the area. The highest point of skiing is 2.400 meters and the lowest is 900 meters. As with many other Alpine ski resorts, the lower slopes of the Portes du Soleil have snow-making facilities to extend the skiable season by keeping the lower slopes open during the warmer months.

      On the French side is Morzine – a picturesque, heritage valley resort complete with traditional wooden chalets, ornate ironwork lamp posts and twinkling fairy lights. It is surrounded by spectacular snow-covered peaks that provide excellent snow right through to end-April. There is a thriving second-home community as well as the swell of seasonal visitors that make for a buzzy atmosphere and excellent nightlife. But this resort is for the genuine skier rather than the label-obsessed and is famously welcoming and family-friendly.

      Morzine is right at the heart of the Portes de Soleil, with its forested valleys, immaculate pistes and excellent opportunities for all snow sports including skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and randonées. Challenge yourself on Pleney's mountain and take the Super Morzine lifts to some of the Alps' most spectacular blue and black runs before a steaming hot chocolate in Beanies or Dotty's Coffee House.
