I don't write reviews normally, however, i would like to say that i can recommend this address. We have been here for a week with four, of which two children below 4 years. The house is spacious, clean, quiet, well located towardsCascais (15 mins), Lissabon (30 mins) en Sintra (25 mins). The owners were friendly and helpful. You need a car to come here.
      If you want a secluded villa that's clean and run by hospitable people then this is the villa for you. We stayed in 'Casa del Patos' which has two bedrooms with comfortable beds and a large lounge kitchen diner area. We were surprised at how much crockery and cooking utensils/pots e.t.c there were as well as extra towels. The hosts made us feel very welcome and provided extra beach towels and anything extra they could find to make our stay comfortable. There are some lovely golf courses near by and a local supermarket but you'd need a car to get to the nearest amenities and towns for eating/exploring. We thoroughly recommend this villa with shared pool and the complex is child-friendly. You have to like dogs as the owners have 4-5 dogs but they are very friendly.
      We had a good time at this property. The location is quiet and secluded. The view from the terrace is lovely, across open countryside to the sea. The accommodation is on one floor, and includes a hallway, spacious bathroom, a main bedroom, with garden view, a large lounge/kitchen/diner and another bedroom if needed. The owners' house is next door, and at least one other rental property lies at the back of this one. The owners have several dogs, who are friendly. Access to the property would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. The pool looks delightful in the photos, but was not all that inviting when we stayed - at Easter.It is a short drive, a mile or so to the village, and a further 3 to 4 miles to Cascais. It is a ten minute drive to the A5 motorway

      Apartment in Lisbon 126 - Alfama - managed by travelingtolisbon
      Do you remember that famous movie where someone said that the last floor is always the best? Well this is the case of flat 126. It is located on the 4th floor (no elevator) of a building at Alfama, one of the most typical neighborhoods of Lisbon.
      Very luminous and breathtaking views are the keywords to describe this two bedroom cozy apartment.
      Just in front of the apartment you will find the Fado Museum. It is also a short walking distance from the other picturesque neighbourhoods of Baixa and Chiado. Nearby you have all kinds of traditional commerce.
      It is also 5 minutes walking distance to the subway and international train station of Santa Apolónia.
      The apartment has 75 m2 and it has been recently renovated to include the following:
      one bedroom with a double bed (160 cm * 200 cm);
      one bedroom with one single bed (80 cm * 185 cm) and one single sofa bed (80 cm * 190 cm);
      a living room with dining and sitting areas, one double sofa bed (140 cm * 190 cm), Tv (Portuguese channels only), DVD player and Hi-Fi;
      a complete kitchen with gas stove and oven, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment and a washing machine;
      a complete bathroom with bathtub.
      In wintertime the apartment is heated with electric heaters.
      UMTS internet connection with USB plug can be provided upon request (10,00€/day).
      We will welcome you with a bottle of wine.

      There are several apartments in Alfama, the neighborhood of apartment 126. It is the medieval Moorish neighborhood where an emerging cosmopolitanism mixes with the “natives” day-to-day life. It is a village in the heart of the city, due to the fact that most of Alfama’s residents have lived here their entire lives and retain a strong sense of community.
      Alfama was first settled by the Romans and Visigoths and was an important Jewish neighborhood in the 15th century, but it was the Moors who gave the district its atmosphere and name (al hamma means springs, a reference to the hot springs used as baths until the 17th century). It is crowned by São Jorge castle, which was built by the Visigoths in the 5th century and enlarged by the Moors in the 9th century.
      Be surprised by Alfama's narrow cobblestone alleyways, stairs and squares, built on a rock-hill that was responsible for its survival after the big 1755 earthquake that destroyed most of the medieval city. A walk through this old-fashioned residential neighborhood is now a step back in time.
      It is an ideal place to explore hidden places, stunning views over the city, the river Tejo, restaurants, fado houses, or even to dance and eat sardines during the popular June festivals. Here you can find numerous little grocery shops, taverns and small restaurants - most having no more than 3 tables. At the edge of the Alfama, Lisbon's renowned flea market, the Feira da Ladra, is held in the Campo de Santa Clara every Tuesday and Saturday.
      Contrasting with these timeless images is a trendy modern development by the waterfront across from Santa Apolónia train station which houses stylish design shops, restaurants and bars, like the famous "Lux".
      You are also very close to theFado and Portuguese guitar Museum: Situated at Largo do Chafariz de Dentro. It is a place where you can have a historical visit through the most traditional Portuguese music -Fado- and famous Portuguese fado singers like Amalia Rodrigues, Carlos do Carmo and Mariza. During the summer (Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays) you can dinner in a small square of the museum and listen to Fado, live! A night program you certainly won’t miss!
      Another astonishing building next door to the apartment isCasa dos Bicos (House of Facets). It was built in 1523 at the time of king Manuel I and is faced with diamond-shaped stones, probalby influenced by the Italian renaissance.
      If you decide to go further up, passing Alfama you will find an astonishing view of the city from Miradouro da Graça or from the one where is the church of St. Maria do Monte da Graça. You will also be able to visit a Spanish barroque style monastery S. Vicente de Fora (mark of the Spanish domination of Portugal until 1640).
      From this apartment you can explore the rest of the city walking to the castle (S. Jorge) or to Baixa, Bairro Alto, Chiado or Santa Clara.
      Come and see for yourself!
