The Arbor Side - Cozy And Central - Near Arnold Arboretum, Subway and JP Center
Period-decorated apartment in a handsome Jamaica Plain Victorian. This renovated space consists of a cozy master bedroom, den/study with Queen-sized sofa bed, galley kitchen with stainless steel dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave and stove. Washe …
Everything was just as advertised and the owner did a good job explaining all the necessary logistics prior to our arrival. We had seen one review expressing some concern about the neighborhood; we thought it was great. We will be back I'm sure.
We were pleasantly surprised as we opened the door and immediately felt at home and comfortable. Every detail has been carefully thought out from the wonderfully equipped kitchen with all the pans, tools and appliances top of the line, to the linens for the bath and bedroom (which were all top of the line)Every thing was clean and tidy.
We enjoyed the location....the street was quiet and the short walk to shopping was convenient and pleasant.
We took the MTA to Boston every day..an easy and quick trip.
I would certainly recommend the Arbor View to friends and relatives.
We were so unexpectedly surprised and delighted at the comfort and charm of "The Arbor Side". All of the details of a charming little home are there from the beautifully equipped kitchen to the luxurious, fluffy white towels in the bath. The decor is tasteful with an eye for detail. We loved Jamaica Plain....some described as Berkeley East. We were able to find anything we needed with a 5 minute walk. We shopped at the local "Food Co-Op for our meals. It is close, convenient and well stocked. We would certainly stay there again and recommend it to others.
Really beautiful property and location. Easy walking distance to T/thus access to everywhere. Close to great restaurants and shopping. We loved Jamaica Plains. Would quickly recommend this rental. Cozy home. All the amenities needed. We loved all the albums!!!! Listened to great music during our stay which added to the overall experience! Really great place to stay!
We recently stayed at the Arbor Side in JP during a trip to the NE.
Every trip has it's ups and downs and the devil's in the details.
This apartment was very nicely furnished; I believe the owner is a designer and it shows.
When traveling with our son, we like to find rentals with 2 bedrooms or a sitting room just to give everyone a little breathing room during long trips and this rental certainly has that with separate bedrooms and a spacious living room. The cost for this in Boston would be astronomical.
There were a few negatives for us though. This location was a good 25-30 minutes to Copley Square and an hour to Harvard via car, bus or train (we did it all). It is a short walk to either the bus stop and a few blocks to the train station although I would not want to walk from the train stop at night.
I would not recommend this apartment for large people. The master bed is a double and my husband and I filled it; we are 5'8"/5'9" and 135 and 160 lbs.
The bathroom is very narrow at approximately 4' wide including the tub width. FYI - soap/shampoo was not provided; I did not see a hair dryer.
It was nice to have access to a washer/dryer but it is in the basement and the stairway is tight and steep - only for the sure footed and short in stature.
We did enjoy the local bakery only a few blocks away and the restaurant on the corner, James Gate.
The neighborhood itself was a bit sketchy with a commercial/residential mix. I would say this house was one of the nicest on the block.
This is definitely urban living and many of the other homes were not well maintained.
Pros: Lots of well decorated room for the price; good bakery, small grocery, restaurant and public transportation in walking distance.
Cons: Distance into the city; neighborhood a little sketchy and out of my comfort zone; tight spaces in bathroom and bedroom but doable for medium size persons.
Property was very clean and comfortable. All the details for getting the key, parking, etc were given to us in advance and were spot-on. Owner was very helpful in all aspects of the stay. We always cook when we travel and it was very nuce to have such a well-stocked kitchen when it came to utensil, pots, pans, etc. We would definitely stay here again.
Location was good, lots to do near by the house, and easy access to public transportation to Boston. The house itself is very tastefully decorated with antiques and books. Even with the nice décor, we had a couple issues with the house. First one being the limited places to put clothing (only available dresser was in the living room). Second, there were personal belongings in every closet and every drawer. We felt like we were staying at a friends house while they were out of town. The place over-all was comfortable, and if you like the feeling of staying at a friends house, this would be rated EXCELLENT. The owner was very kind, helpful and great to work with. Thank you for letting us use the place.
The Arbor is an ideal spot to rest, recoup and regenerate ones energy. It is in Jamaica Plains a lovely residential neighborhood @20 min downtown Boston. Actually it's half a block to the main walking area with restaurants and shops. The apartment was immaculate, towels thick and fluffy, appliances new and sparkling...and the decor calming and restful. I enjoyed my few days there and my sister and husband visited and it was a perfect size. The bathroom was cozy. Altogether this was a lovely place to stay and I may be back when i visit my grandson.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Arbor Side. The condo had plenty of room for the two of us, was decorated beautifully and was immaculate. The kitchen is new, modern and well equipped with lovely dishes, glassware and every appliance or pan one might need. Having a formal living room and den was so convenient. The bathroom is tiny and the tub/shower small but well maintained.
The owner and Home Away were excellent communicators and even when we were arriving just after a major snow storm, they made sure we knew exactly what to expect. The driveway had been plowed and there was a space for our car!
We would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative as long as they were "Bed and Breakfast" people. It is comfortable, convenient and charming.
We were visiting relatives who live in JP, so location was very important to us. It was very easy to get around to museums and other attractions in Boston for the condo, since it is within walking distance of two "T" stops. We went to the pub at the end of the street at McBride and Center on Sunday evening where there is a jam session for Irish musicians every week. The food was good and the music-terrific!
My husband and I stayed in JP to visit our son. This apartment was within walking distance of shops and restaurants yet the neighborhood is quiet. We loved the interior of this space, particularly the living room which is the high point. It is open, bright and faces the street. The apartment is spotless and full of charming decor. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit.
My husband and I stayed in this cozy, well-kept apartment for an extended stay Nov-Dec. Though small, the apartment was extremely clean, had everything we needed, was very comfortable and was perfect for us. Best of all, both the owner (Lance) and property manager were extremely helpful and answered any questions we had throughout our stay. We loved the JP experience! We took daily walks through the Arboretum or around Jamaica Pond, and stopped for coffee and muffins almost every day at Fiore's Bakery. We ate at so many excellent places (that we walked to!) there isn't enough room to mention them all! Some standouts were Vee Vee's, Center Street Cafe, City Feed, The Haven and Oola's. We will definitely go back.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this rental property. It was very cozy, clean and well maintained. Owner was very creative with the space. It is a small condo that is ideal for a couple or a couple with a child. There is a full size bed in the bedroom and then a queen size pull out in the den. Kitchen is well appointed with all the needs for cooking; which we did alot. We were here for a week so we took advantage of the dresser and closet space for clothes. The bathroom is small but a linen closet is available for toiletries/blow dryer etc. The den is great for reading, watching tv or relaxing. My husband's only complaint is no ESPN on the cable. He got over that quickly; too much to do!
Jamaica Plain is a great suburb of Boston. The subway and bus are within walking distance to get to downtown Boston. The Arnold Arboretum is also a short walk and should be enjoyed during a stay. There are many locally owned shops and restuarants to try. We used the Harvest Co-op for groceries which was a very short walk from the condo.
We would rent this property again; hopefully soon! I would also recommend to friend or family.
we enjoyed our eleven night stay at the arbor side. right off south/center street it was perfectly located for our needs and interests. The accommodations were beautiful and comfortable, with good ventilation and air conditioning. we found the kitchen well stocked and easy to cook in. Lance was responsive to our questions. we would stay at the arbor side again. jonathon gray
The apartment is located in a safe and hip neighborhood only a short walk from public transportation. Everything was well organized and the place was very clean when we arrived. What we did not like was that the apartment was pretty much packed with the owners own stuff. There was one empty closet to store clothes and the fridge to store food. That was it - not very practical and somewhat awkward too.
With less stuff in it the apartment would be a nice place to stay in Boston but like this I would not recommend it to a friend.
We booked this place for my parents during their week-long stay in Boston for my wedding. The location is nice; as advertized it's a short walk to the Arnold Arboretum, the MBTA Orange line, and some nice restaurants in JP. The owner Lance was helpful and accommodating. The unit itself was impeccably clean when we arrived. It is very tastefully decorated in a classic style, but with some nice modern touches. You can tell a lot of thought has been put in to the design and layout of the space. The unit would be best suited for a couple but is large enough to entertain a small group of ~6 people comfortably. My folks were very happy during their stay. Overall I'd be happy to recommend the Arbor Side to a couple visiting the area and would happily book it again myself for visitors to the area.
