A Classic Historic BrooklynBrownstone neighborhood close to all
Historic Brooklyn Brownstone neighborhood. Classic architectural buildings. Excellent location steps away from the express A and C trains 10 mins. to Manhattan. Minutes away from the S ,G ,L .I.R.R Diverse cultural area, Including a multitude o …
My wife and I along with our two very young children had a blast staying in the heart of Brooklyn... Neighborhood was historic and lively... the community was surprisingly friendly and rich in true native Brooklyn culture... Diverse with some great restaurants, bakeries, deli's just around the corner. make sure u start off with Dalias fresh baked goodies in the morning... muffins to die for! ... David's Brisket for lunch was (no lie) the best Pastrami or corned beef sandwich we have ever eatn! Great Jamaican spot at Fulton above A and C train platform. Aside from the great location in our opinion, was the magnificent historic Brownstone we had the privilege of staying in- just like i remember growing up in as a kid. David and his wife were amazing! ...helpful in every way needed. Our living space was spacious and well decorated... clean and inviting. As a builder i was mesmerized by the charm of all the hundred plus year old trim work and details of this building inside and out! Work of Art! Anyways, thanks to David and his sweet wife for opening up their home for us to enjoy! We will be back! BROOKLYN STAND UP!!
Couldnt say enough about the property, the owners, the area, ect. Everything was fantastic!! WE WILL BE BACK!! Thank u for opening up your beautiful home for us to experience. Thank you Bed-Stuy for being our new favorite spot in Brooklyn! oh, and dont forget to try Dahlia's homemade muffins around the corner! ...and for lunch best Pastrami sandwich we have ever eatn was at David's Brisket a few blocks away! Great Trip!! Mini Vinny and Baby Marco send squeezes ur way! Thanks again!!
Our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 tweens) had a fabulous stay in Brooklyn. The best part are David and Jacqui - who are great hosts. They've decorated the apartment in such a fun way - and paid attention to the details (like marking where you are on the subway shower curtain!!!) This is a typical New York Brownstone, which means it is beautiful. If you want to really feel like a New Yorker for a while, this is the place to be... a friendly neighborhood with lots of parents walking their kids to school or daycare in the morning, and a bit quieter but still great walking at night. Markets and Drug Store a block or two away - subway station to take you into Manhatten 2 blocks away (remember to take the express - not the local!). We couldn't have been happier, although we wished we'd had more time to be able to just hang out on the stoop. David and Jacqui have great suggestions - listen to them if they recommend a resturant or museum. Ms. Dahlia's Cafe around the corner is a MUST to start your day. Good coffee and small breakfast foods. (also amazing cucumber lemonade - really - you should try it!). We would absolutely recommend staying here to family and friends - and hopefully we will be able to make a trip back.
I can't begin to describe what a wonderful stay myself, my husband and my toddler had here. We recently moved to New York and needed somewhere temporary to stay until we found longer-term accommodation, and we ended up staying with David and Jacqui for nearly 2 months. We couldn't have asked for a friendlier, more comfortable home from home. The flat itself is gorgeous - it has a peaceful airy feel to it, lots of beautiful period touches and some brilliant pieces of art that give it real character. It's really well located, very near the subway station - we had no problems getting out and about daily to explore Brooklyn and Manhattan. It's also about 5 mins away from a large supermarket for those doing home cooking.
Bed Stuy itself is very safe and the people really friendly (very sweet with my son - I had to ask them for help daily to take my pram up and down the subway stairs! For those with children that don't want to keep asking for favours then there's a lift in the next subway station along). It's a great opportunity to get a feel for daily life, away from the tourist trail.
Last but not least is just what wonderful people David and Jacqui themselves are, which is not an insignificant point because often the fondest memories you have of places are the people you come across there. Thanks guys!
My wife, son and I had a wonderful stay at this most excellent apartment.
The space was huge with 14ft ceilings and just a very comfortable, relaxing retreat. I was amazed at how quiet it was in the apartment at night. Most welcome after your surely busy day in the city. More importantly the owners (Dave And Jacqui) were some of the most quality people you would ever want to meet. Helpful beyond reproach (which is very helpful in this overwhelming metropolis) and simply just wonderful human beings! Thanks so much for all your help and guidance around the neighborhood and Brooklyn in general. Anytime you are in Boston do not hesitate to give a call. Best, Mark,Suzy and Max
Oh my goodness!! This property was amazing!! We rented the parlor apartment for our family (2 adults and 2-18 year old boys) and it worked out perfectly. We each had our own sleeping space and our own beds which were very comfortable. It was great to have the kitchen and the store was within walking distance so we were able to have a good breakfast each morning before heading into the city for the day. Thank you David and Jacqui for the grocery cart you loaned to us as well as all the directions to get around. The subway was 3 blocks away and we felt very safe at all times coming and going. The A express took us right into the city and the trip was about 1/2 hour to Times Square. There was also a corner store that worked well for extra beverages to take in our backpack each day. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed. David and Jacqui were very helpful with any and all questions we had. The neighborhood was quite, we felt right at home. We flew into LaGuarida and took a cab for around $30. For transportation back, David gave us a number for a car service and it ran the same price. After a long day of exploring I loved the soaker tub!! The shower was great as well. We really felt like we were right at home and we would recommend staying here to anyone and we really want to come back!! Thank you Jaquic to helping us with all our questions before we arrived. And thank you David for the detailed list of all the fun things to do in Brooklyn. Our only regret was that we didn't have more time, it was hard to leave.
In ca. 3 min. Entfernung Subway Station Nostrand Avenue. Wir kauften dort dort das Wochenticket für 29$. U-Bahn fahren in NYC überhaupt kein Problem!!!!
I stayed here with my family (4 adults and 2 kids) and we had a great time in this trip. The apartment was nice, clean, near to the subway and the air conditioning was working well (thank God 'cause it was SO hot). The owners were gentle! i realy recomend.

All was perfect, very friendly and easy going, as beautiful as on the images and well equipped apartment!
We were booked for a week, and arrived into Penn Station by train. No problem finding the place based on great directions from David and Jacqui, and we arrived to a very warm welcome from same. The "Parlour" was everything pictured, and more. The bed was very comfortable, and since we were only two, the place seem huge. A large entry room, great living room and the kitchen was perfectly sized for us, with everything we would need. We loved all the personal decorating touches and the classic louvered window covers, that "disappeared" into the window frames. You could use the shower curtain to check out the subway system! Dave & Jaqui were just up a flight of stairs, and available to help and to answer our myriad questions. They were kind enough to let us use their computer to check on emails and surf for theatre tickets, and made phone calls on our behalf where needed. Groceries and small ethnic restaurants all within short walks. The subway was 3 short blocks away, and an easy run into Manhatten. Fulton Ave had some neat local shopping, (Doug found a great hat there.) When it was time to leave, David arranged for an escort car to take us directly to La Guardia for $30 plus tip. We forgot to check one closet when leaving, and left behind some clothing. After getting our ok, David took the time to mail it to us. Would we recommend this place to others? In a heartbeat. Great place, great hosts.
Hints: We got our monies worth and more from the $29 unlimited use metro pass. Definitely ask for both a metro and subway map at the kiosks. To see the 9/11 memorial you have to line up early at the memorial office to get a pass. Access limited due to construction. Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge at night. Wonderful. Appointments also needed to see 30 Rock, and NBC. Go to see Empire State on weekday, otherwise 90 minutes in lineups. Take the handouts from street hawkers, one save us $100 on theatre tickets for Memphis. There are neat weekend flea markets on West 25th, and Hell's Kitchen.
There are so many wonderful things to say about the Parlor. I think the easiest way to convey them is in list format:
1. The owners are awesome and should be cloned for the betterment of humanity.
2. Pictures do not adequately portray how friggin' HUGE this place is.
3. 14ft ceilings = 14ft sliding bedroom doors = never seen before except on Falcon Crest.
4. Art, art, art, everywhere.
5. 2 blocks aways from the A & C subway lines. Pretty much the only two lines you'll ever need to explore all of Manhattan.
6. 3 blocks away from G line for all you skinny jean types.
7. 6 blocks from LIRR for all you power suit types.
8. Fold-out sofa mattresses.
9. Fold-out sofas that are so comfortable you don't need to fold them out.
10. The friendly, helpful, beautiful people of Bedford Stuyvesant, and that one crazy guy on the subway that called Jay-Z a Republican.
11. Did I mention David and Jacqui (the owners) are awesome? If you don't have a clue what to do this day, week, month–they do, and can tell you how to get there.
12. Newly refurbished kitchen.
13. Amazing hardwood floors with alternating designs and colors.
14. The surrounding dutch colonials.
15. The quiet streets at night.
16. Great nearby restaurants: Indian, Chinese, Thai, and other ethnic fare, plus standard half-assed american franchises like McDonalds and cute, independent coffee shops like Ms. Dalhia's.
17. Boombox atop the refrigerator with an Air CD in it.
18. Feeling like part of the community walking down Nostrand Ave.
19. Never feeling like I was unsafe.
20. That bodega that sold pig tails out of a vat.

About the home:
The perfect seaside cottage? It’s a couple of blocks from the waterfront, of course; brilliantly bright and washed in a sparing, sunbleached white, it’s a private niche of marine calm. That’s the Williamsburg Loft, with a twist: add a sweet splash of urban savvy, a rush of design-forward sensibility, and perfect convenience to the creative Brooklyn surge, and you’ve got this one bedroom, one bathroom converted loft. Filled wall-to-wall with designer furniture, this sunny home will be sure to fuel your inner stylist. While you won't hear the ebb of the sea as you sleep, you’re in the thick of it all here in one of the most forwardly stylish spots in Brooklyn.
He sells seashells
Your hosts are a couple closely in touch with the art and design scene. An entrepreneur and foundation director respectively, they’ve got skillful eyes for space and a deep affinity for all things creative (and it shows).
Time and tide
The beachfront cottage is a revered place of retreat and relaxation away from the crush of the everyday, and this urban beach house is no different. A one-time industrial space, the favourable loft footprint has been preserved while nearly all vestiges of grit have been swept away; broad, blonde hardwood floors, raw wood countertops, tiny sprays of seaside flowers have washed in in their place. In the open-plan living room, dining room, and kitchen, soft white walls are the major design pivot point thoughtfully accentuating soaring ceilings and a wealth of natural light (though delightful bursts of colour aren’t shy about making their presence known). From good chairs to deliberate art arrangements, the tide of good design is with you here. After a long day in the Brooklyn sun, dust the sand from your feet and settle in to a sparingly adorned master bedroom whose purity and restraint offer a welcome counterbalance to the colourful urban crush. Here you’re sure never to be lost at sea.
Salt and spray
Williamsburg is a force of nature that needs almost no introduction. Arguably one of the hippest, most stylish, and most arts-forward communities in Brooklyn, it boasts fabulous coffee, excellent vintage and thrift store shopping, creative, cutting-edge restaurants and bars, and a never-ending human spectacle that makes for some of the best people watching in the city. Don’t believe us? The L is a short walk away - be in relatively tame Manhattan in moments and see for yourself.
