A Touch of the Ancient Monastery! 5 Min. from Central Station

    Amsterdam

    Description

First thing that I want to point out is that the owners are awesome! From the beginning of the process until we left, they were nothing but helpful and polite! This apartment is in a residential area of Amsterdam, about a 10 minute walk to the FREE ferry that goes to Central Station. My husband and I liked being a little out of the way as the city of Amsterdam can be a little crazy and unsafe. There were two food stores relatively close to the apartment and my husband and I found a good pizza place that was also pretty close (named San Remo). The bicycles were a nice touch and if there was better weather when we were visiting, we would have definitely took them out more than once. Some people might think that it is a little weird that the shower was in the living room but if you are with your spouse and/or small children, it is not a problem. If we ever return to Amsterdam, we hopefully will be staying here!
Michael K.
We loved staying here! The apartment is so cute and I loved the vintagey style. Cindy and Michael were so helpful and always available if we needed them. We really enjoyed riding the provided bikes to the ferry and into the city center. There is no better way to experience Amsterdam than by bike. Very nice touch to have wine, cheese and bread immediately upon arrival. Thanks for the great hospitality and wonderful place!
C&M, Thanks for a wonderful stay. We appreciated your help with transport and enjoyed talking with both of you. Thank you for the wine and the use of your prepaid cell. We have felt comfortable in your apartment and we are already planning a return trip to your charming city. See you next year!
Cindy and Michael, Thank you for allowing us to stay at your place. We had a very good time here in Amsterdam and we for sure look to come back here if we ever visit again,
Dear Cindy And Michael, WE really enjoyed the stay. A great home away from home. Was nice to have dinner together, You are always welcome in Oregon.
Dear Cindy and Michael, Thank you for making our stay in Amsterdam so wonderful and for making us feel so welcome. We really enjoyed the trip.
Thank you! we really enjoyed our stay. We appeeciated, the wine, cheese bread and also being alble to stay for our evening train. Thank you!
We spent 8 days in the apartment in late August/early September. We are experienced vacation apartment renters and this was the first time that we encountered any difficulty with a property. We communicated with Cindy for several months before actually arriving. She promptly and completely answered our email. Like some previous guests, we were allowed to check in early. Michael met us and oriented us to the apartment. Unlike some previous reviews, we found that the pictures did not completely describe the property. We were aware that the toliet was in the front hall, but were unaware that there were two different doors into various sections of the apartment. This necessitated us leaving the living room/dining room, going into the hall to then enter the kitchen area. Although the downstairs hallway was most often empty, it was a bit uncomfortable moving from area to area unless fully dressed. Additionally, we had a mosquito problem. When we arrived Michael informed us to keep the windows and doors to the terrace closed because of the mosquitos, so we felt we could not use the area. What we did not expect was all the mosquitos entering through the front door. Because we needed to open and close doors to move between sections of the apartment, they entered the inside rooms. Each of us received dozens of mosquito bites with more than 28 just on my face. The second night after spraying for mosquitos, this decreased somewhat but we still slept with mosquito repellent for the remainder of the trip. The bites which were getting more and more inflammed required a doctor visit for antibiotics and steroids. Additionally, the bedroom area smelled damp- so much so that we chose to sleep in the living room. Finally, the apartment has only one sink so after leaving the toilet, you must enter the kitchen to wash your hands in that sink. On the positive side, the hosts were welcoming, provided wine and cheese, and cut short an evening out when at 11 pm we realized we had locked ourselves out of the apartment. Additionally, the apartment is very convenient to grocery shopping and to the ferry. Please note in the evening after approximately 9 pm the ferry only runs every 12 minutes. The washer/dryer and the complimentary Internet access worked well. Our recommendation to Michael was that the apartment be reconfiguered to contain an internal door so that it is a contained unit.
THE HOSTS WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO MAKE OUR STAY PLEASANT. GREAT LOCATION 5 MINS TO FREE FERRY WHICH TAKES YOU ACROSS TO THE CITY OF AMSTERDAM. QUIET, QUAINT NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE APT IS JUST AS DEPICTED ON THEIR WEB SITE. VERY CLEAN, QUIET AND GREAT LOCATION.. COULD OT OF ENJOYED OUR STAY ANY MORE. LOVED EVERY THING ABOUT IT. WOULD CERTAINLY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. ALSO TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THEIR BIKES AND THE GREAT BIKE TRAILS ALL AROUND.
