Our Villa is located behind the Old Shali fort in Siwa Oasis. It is very private yet 5 minutes from the market sq. It is run by an English family who live in the oasis. The standard is high and hassle free. The house has four bedrooms, one single, one double, one twin and one dorm with 4 beds, two being a large bunk bed made from palm trees. The roof terrace (130 sq m) overlooks the Shali fort and surrounding old mud houses. There are two sun loungers on the roof for private sunbathing. The fire pit has a spit where you can roast a lamb or several chickens and will sit all of the Villa's guest around the fire. Inside the Villa there are a few quite areas for reading or where you can get together to play cards. Air conditioning is available in all rooms except for the dorm room along with a fan and wardrobes. Fresh linen is provided along with a towel and darker towels for when you go to the hot springs. The Villa has a fully equipped kitchen with everything necessary for you to cook your own meals if you wish. When you arrive there’ll be some food in the fridge to start you off (all the staples plus sauces, spices, milk, cheese, eggs, fresh fruit and juices). A full-time housekeeper will be coming in every day to do all the cleaning and washing up. Whilst staying at the our Villa we can arrange a safari tour of the desert including sand boarding and swimming in the hot springs and salt lakes as well as taking you into Berber houses to meet the locals for a cup of tea or for Henna parties(girls only).Our Villa is set in the oasis town of Siwa, which is on the edge of the Great Sand Sea in Egypt. It's 800km from Cairo (7-10 hours west depending on how fast your driver goes) or 300km south of Mersa Matruh on the Mediterranean coast. There are many activities including visiting the pyramids, the war memorials at El Alamein, the Greco Roman sites of Alexandria, the colourful markets and of course the beach! The villa is situated 30 minutes from the centre of Alexandria in a place called King Mariout, where there is a local community of bedouins and wealthy Egyptians. You are 25 minutes away from the nearest beach, and 5 to 10 minutes away from several restaurants. Basic food can be bought from King Mariout, and it also has a pharmacy. 20 minutes away is a large Carrefour shopping Mall. Alexandria is an fascinating city with many Greco-Roman remains to be visited. There is also the library, the gardens at Montazah, and the 'souks'(markets) in the centre of Alexandria. You can even take a day trip out into the desert and sand board down the dunes! Other day trips include the Pyramids, the war memorials and museum of El Alamein and Rashid where the Rosetta stone was found.
