Charming and Spacious 2 Bedroom Basement Suite

Charming, 2 bedroom basement suite, available for your vacation stay. Located on a quiet tree lined block, proposed for historical landmark, in one of the most vibrant and culturally diverse neighborhoods in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
    Newly renovat …

Not suitable for people over 6 ft tall due to low roof height. Not suitable for people with mobility issues due to narrow steep stairway down to basement apartment. Very central location, quiet street close to subway and great restaurants. Really comfortable beds, apartment is well stocked with everything you need to prepare your own meals. Grocery stores and laundromat 2 minutes walk. Security is great, we had 2 sets of keys for our convenience and a security code for the front door. Bathroom has no ventilation so black mould grew on ceiling after a week of showers. My husband loves open windows and fresh air at night (even in winter) and the large window in the basement behind the bed was a great bonus. The screen dividing the bedroom and the buildings hot water heater is not secured properly and moves, the facia above the wardrobe is not secured properly and falls off. The picture in the main bedroom is hung on the wall with tacks so it falls off when you walk in the room. Some power points emit sparks when you remove power cords. Some light fittings are starting to come loose in the ceiling. It is a comfortable, quaint apartment, our teenage kids loved it, we felt it was great value for the money, but a little maintenance would improve the apartments presentation. As a family of four, two adults and two teenage daughters, this was a great central location in which to explore New York each day and return to the lovely quiet street for a good nights rest.
My family of 5 had a very nice stay in the appartment. It was for sure spacious enough. We didn't have any problems with noisy neighbours, the appartment was really quiet. Brooklyn is a perfect place to stay to get away from the busy Manhattan. From the house it is about a 10 minutes walk to the subway. The Subway takes you in 20 to 30 minutes to Manhattan. Do realize that the subway in New York is relatively expensive. We bought a week ticket even though we had only 4 days to spend. My advice is to eat in the neighbourhood, the places are great. We tried Dutch Boy Burger, Baranzino and Rosco's. The food is great and prices are acceptable. There are grocery stores within few minutes walk of the appartment. We loved the banana bread that Krista provided on arrival. There was one big problem with it though! It was so good that we finished it the first day and had to do the rest of the days without. There is free wifi in the appartment, thank you for that Krista! We were in New York during an extreme hot period but temparature in the appartment was okay. We had a great time in New York (my kids hardly watched television which is very rare and means they were occupied) and the appartment was a perfect place to relax after an exhausting day.
The appartment looks exactly like the pictures. It's cute and quaint, and can definitely accommodate 6 people. Although, coming from a tall family where almost everyone is 6ft - 6'4, I would not recommend this appartment because the ceiling was pretty low. My mom is 5'11 and even she walked around with her head ducked down half the time. I'm sure the low ceiling is attributed to the fact that this truly is an underground basement appartment. My only other hesitations with this appartment is the owner does ask that you not be so loud because of the upstairs neighbors (considering the close distance between each individual appartment) and that there is no ventilation system. Considering that we came in the middle of summer and it was anywhere from 84-93 degrees everyday, not having ventilation made the appartment very stuffy. The appartment was conveniently close to the subway (about 3/4 blocks) which was nice. There were plenty of markets, wash houses, bars, and quick eateries right in the neighborhood. Considering mostly everything we did was in Manhattan, it did take us a little longer than we expected to get to and from the city. Our experience for our first time renting vacation property was ok, but I will definitely spend more money to stay closer to the city!
Krista, We enjoyed our short stay in your charming basement apartment. A nice, safe and quiet (and cool) retreat that was extremely convenient to the subway and neighboring sights and cafes. The banana bread lived up to its reputation and your resident cat was a steady visitor to the kitchen window. Jan was a sweetheart, helping us get oriented - thank her for us. Thanks again for accommodating us for two very nice days in The City.
My husband, two teenage daughters and I stayed at this suite over a long weekend. It was clean, spacious, economical, convenient to transportation and on a quiet, tree lined street in Brooklyn. We could easily catch the train into Manhattan, yet escape those busy streets at night. We went for runs in the very convenient Prospect Park and had amazing meals in the restaurants within walking distance, which were recommended by our hostess--who was very helpful and accommodating. We will definitely stay here again!
We recently stayed here during a shopping trip to New York. Krista was most welcoming upon our arrival. The apartment is close to subways and most bus routes. There are lots of nice restaurants and cafes in the vicinity also. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place.
The location is great with easy access to great places to eat, supermarkets and the subway. We did not fully appreciate that there would be so little natural light in the apartment. The bedrooms are of a good size and the rest of the facilities were more than adequate.
This apartment is perfect for a vacation to New York City. It is only a five minute walk to the subway so it's very convenient. The apartment was clean, cozy, warm and well decorated. The banana bread on arrival was a nice touch. The beds are very comfortable too so we had wonderful nights of sleep!
Nice quiet appartment to come home to after a busy day of sightseeing. Close to the shuttle making it easy to connect to subway. Info provided about the neighbourhood very helpful. Enoyed our stay very much.

My husband and I took our four kids (ranging in age from 8-17) to New York City for the first time and stayed in this basement apartment. It was a pleasure from start to finish. The photos of the apartment, while giving an idea of what it looks like, do not do justice to the spaciousness and charm of the place. Krista goes above and beyond with her homemade banana bread and we were pleasantly surprised, after a full day out with the kids, to find the yummiest teas in the cupboard. The six of us sat up each night over Krista's yummy teas and relived our day's experiences. The subway was close to the apartment and we found it easy to navigate. It was just a short train ride in to Manhattan; and we loved coming home to the Brooklyn neighborhood late at night. We had the kids out most nights until 2 and 3 in the morning and always felt completely safe in the neighboryhood. We can't wait to return. It is the little something extra that Krista puts into her VRBO that makes it the Perfect Place To Stay In NYC!
