    This heat wave, along with 3 out of town trips, has taken me off my Walking schedule. I haven't hit my daily walking goals for almost a month.

    But the good news is I haven't gained any weight. If fact I have lost 4 pounds of fat and gained 4 pounds of muscle.

    2 weeks ago I visited my mother. Ate rolls, pound cake, and ice cream all day. Didn't gain a single pound.

    Why didn't I gain weight? I try to eat foods with a Glycemic Load of less than 10. After a couple of weeks of doing it, you naturally know what foods you can eat, which ones to eat in moderation, and which ones to stay away from.

    Getting fit, and losing fat is a combination of eating right and activity. You don't have to do crazy extreme diets or exercise routines. Those only offer a short-term fix...at best. And I don't know anyone who can stick to it from more than a few weeks.

    The Walk Fit Challenge is about gradually implementing modest lifestyle changes to achieve permanent fitness and fat loss results. And those results happen pretty fast. I lost 50 pounds in 4 months. You can too. Join the challenge.

    Visited my mom last week and didn't have the chance to walk. Ate too much, and walked too little. Ended up gaining 3 pounds, but lost 1 pound of fat.

    Going to get back into my routine this week. I have some walking to do.

    Your activity level is more important than dieting when it comes to losing fat. I've lost almost 50 pounds in just over 4 months eating what I want. I even lost 3.6 pounds during a week when I eat a half gallon of my favorite ice cream.

    Reaching 10,000 steps a day is not difficult. If you can walk 30 minutes in the morning, you should be at approximately 4,000 step. Normal activity during the rest of the day should get you past 10,000.
