This is your place to connect with other members of the Tourism Cares community before and during our volunteer events and keep up with news about our grants, scholarships and special campaigns. We hope that you have fun connecting, traveling and volunteering with each other.
Tourism Cares was formed by the combining of the National Tourism Foundation, founded by the National Tour Association in 1982, and the Travelers Conservation Foundation, founded in 1999 by the United States Tour Operators Association. Our mission is to preserve the travel experience for future generations.
The tourism industry truly cares about our world. This is demonstrated every day by Tourism Cares work to preserve the travel experience for future generations through grants to natural, cultural and historic sites worldwide; by presenting academic, professional development and service-focused scholarships to hospitality and tourism students; and by organizing hands-on volunteer efforts to restore tourism-related sites in need of care and rejuvenation.
A vital part of the Tourism Cares mission is to distribute grants around the world to worthy nonprofit organizations for conservation, preservation, restoration, or education at tourism-related sites of exceptional significance. To date, Tourism Cares has granted funding to 143 organizations in 42 states and 26 countries. These grants, when combined with matching funds, have totaled more than $2 million.
Tourism Cares awards nearly $100,000 in scholarships each year to travel, tourism and hospitality students attending programs in the U.S. and Canada. The merit-based scholarship opportunities include academic, professional development, and service-learning scholarships. The current endowment Tourism Cares administers, which includes the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA), International Airlines Travel Agent Network (IATAN), and NTA Scholarship Funds, totals nearly $2 million.
Tourism Cares signature programs are its volunteer work projects at which members of the travel industry give back to historic, cultural and natural sites in need. Tourism Cares Volunteer Programs provide the perfect opportunity for those in the travel field to roll up their sleeves and make a difference. Through these programs, in-kind and volunteer efforts at tourism-related historic, cultural and natural sites are valued at more than $300,000 annually.
Tourism Cares receives its funding primarily from the hospitality and tourism industry, including annual support from individuals, companies and major industry associations. In addition, through its "Save Our Sites" program, it is now engaging the traveling public to make personal contributions to preserve the travel experience for future generations.
