Frontier Market Scouts Program selects and trains young leaders to
become entrepreneurial scouts and investment managers serving social
impact investment funds in low-income regions of the world. The program
is a partnership between the Monterey Institute of International Studies
(www.miis.edu) and the Sanghata Institute for Social Entrepreneurship and Investment.
Market Scouts Program selects students with solid background in
business and management, experience and adaptability in challenging
international environment, and a strong belief in entrepreneurial and
market development as one of the most important means to sustainable
improvement of living standards in low-income regions. The Program
employs leading experts and practioners in social entrepreneurship and
investment to provide intensive, hands-on pre-deployment training to the
scouts. Scouts surviving the training program are deployed by leading
social and commercial investors to work directly with indigenous
entrepreneurs all over the world.
Market Scouts Program runs two month-long training programs in January
and June every year. Scouts being deployed must commit themselves to a
six-month assignment on the ground in one of the poorest regions in the
world, under the supervision of a social impact investment firm. A small
stipend and/or living assistance are provided to scouts deployed.
Admission to Frontier Market Scouts Program is highly competitive.
The mission of the Frontier Market Scouts program is to enable capital
flow to bottom-of-the-pyramid entrepreneurial projects and generate
sustainable, positive social and economic impact for the poor, while
providing the scouts with rewarding life experiences and career
